I have two of these. The first one is 15 years old. The second only 1 year. These are guaranteed for life because they cant be damaged with normal use and care, Great Design, Very Sharp. This Axe will take a beating and still looks like new. This is one of those hand-me-down items that will last your kids life too.

This is an excellent hatchet for its value. It's light, solid and effective.The only downfall with this hatchet, and maybe it's just my specific hatchet, the cover gets stuck inside the bottom of the hatchet. For those that aren't familiar with this hatchet, the cover slips off and goes inside the bottom of the handle for storage when splitting or cutting. Again, the problem I am having is getting the cover out of that handle easily!

I have split a dozen large rounds of hardwood with this little hatchet and a plastic wedge -- I found it impressive. Combined with a portable bow saw I think the carrier would be very well set.Mine has taken a serious beating and I expect it to last for a few seasons of regular use at the very least. It stays stowed in my pick-up for emergencies and BC camping along with a first aid kit, a propane stove, and food. I've dinged it pretty good on rocks -- don't ask -- and it sharpens very easily and quickly. No rust at all and very light. Good for packing in if it comes to that.I was skeptical of the hand and still am, but with the MEC guarantee it's worth the try. My axe came razor sharp which I gave a convex edge to instead of a more straight edge when bought so it would hold a better edge after chopping and prevents any chipping or rolling of the blade and more filing. Handle makes for a nice survival kit storage area as i just plug with a small rag and can wipe my face of sweat also. The plastic sheath like cover is different but I actually like it and ran a piece of velcro around it for more security when attached to backpack and works great for me. I use for chopping the larger kindling. Very nice weight and balance - one handed or two-handed. Sharp edge out of the box. Edge has maintained. Sturdy and easy to see the bright green handle color . Good hammer end and edge protector works nicely.Very good buy for the price.

I have only used it for 3 days, and only to make kindling, mostly out of Arizona Ash and some Live Oak. Very light duty work and in a short amount of time there were several pretty good nicks in the cutting edge. You can see in my pictures that it's nothing that is going to hinder the axe's chopping ability. Just worries me that I may be having to continually resharpen my kindling maker. My X27s have been through some heavy duty, gnarly, knotty stuff. I actually broke the handle of my 1st one (and Fiskars immediately sent me a new one). The edges of those blades only dinged on misstrikes that ended with the head in the rocky soil 🤷🏼. All that being said, this a kindling making machine! I even used it to split a price of oak that was about 9 inches in diameter and roughly 15 inches long. It was old and had some pretty good checks in it already, but this little axe did make short work of it. I had gotten pretty proficient making kindling with my X27 by tucking the handle under my arm and holding it up near the head. This is a much safe for anyone behind me as I usually split kindling whole the kids play. If the Fiskars X10 was still available I would probably recommend it over this one, but since it's not, I'll just keep my sharpening stones handy and would most likely buy again. I bought this to use while splitting wood with my log splitter to finish cutting the stringy wood pieces apart. It works great. Its a little longer than a regular hatchet. You can use two hands on it like a small axe. It also came with another scabbard with a handle besides the one shown in the picture. The one in the picture stores in the handle.
The”compact edge guard that secures with a bungee cord and stores in the handle when not in use “ per the written product description and the video DOES NOT come with the hatchet! Instead you get only get the larger (heavier) plastic cover shown in the picture, that is not as conducive to back packing
