The like the shape and feel of the knife. The size seems to be perfect for everyday carry. The sheath is very versatile. However, it came with several nicks & burrs on the blade. The smaller nicks I may be able to hone out but there is a larger one that may be there forever. Also, the tang does not fit precisely with the scales - rising above the scales toward the butt. I believe this will cause some definite discomfort when using the knife for any length of time, such as carving. I am considering asking for a replacement.

Big enough for most all camp chores but small enough to carry. There are small knives that can not tolerate much abuse and big ones that are like an anchor in your pack. This has the solid feel of a practice work knife without the cost of some of the custom jobs. I know that folders are more popular with many outdoors people but cleaning them is an issue and few can hold up to much abuse. (Not that you should beat up your knife but odd stuff happens and you need to use what you got.)

Love this blade. It has the potential to be an everything knife. Not big not to small. At 3.1 inches it has plenty of blade for food prep, processing game, and processing wood for fires. The sheath is great. I know there is a lot of mixed reviews on the sheath. I think it’s great that you can carry three different ways. The scandi grind is phenomenal and is the sharpest knife I have ever gotten from a factory. Even over my benchmade 940. I think that could be due to the 0 degree from the scandi.

I got this knife right before going on a backpacking trip as it caught my eye in the store, and I had been wanting a solid fix-blade for a while. From the trip and the few weeks that I've had it after that, it has performed excellently. The knife is a really good size for most tasks, and it has held its edge well through heavy use in the outdoors and at home. It's also one of the most comfortable knives I own, which makes me want to use it even more. As a plus, the sheath it comes with is pretty good, and the different mounting options are nice to have. I put mine on my belt, the sheath keeps it in place well. Overall, the knife has surprised me at how much it does everything well while being pretty budget friendly.
This is truly a great intermediate bushcraft knife. I say, one step up from the $15 Mora 511 carbon. The handle ergonomics is great, lightweight, sharp spine (for scraping shavings or debarking branches; for throwing sparks from ferro rod), wickedly sharp edge that makes wood carving a breeze as well as skinning game. Fits perfectly in my hands. The sheath has many different mounting options, which I don't use, but is great to have anyhow. I ended up purchasing a $15 leather sheath for mine.
The knife was given to me as a gift over 2 years ago. I use it everyday in my landscaping work and seasonal hunting. It’s a great knife to have. The only downside is it’s not left hand friendly and the velcro strap provided wears out quickly. Idea maybe should make it a button strap. I would highly recommend knife.
Surpassed my expectations. Blade remains incredibly sharp after using to debark logs and gut fish. Thick blade really makes it strong. For me, this was the right tool
I liked the overall look of the knife, reviews of it and the different mounting options for the sheath. The sheath options should be included with all knives imho. It gives you lots more options than just the normal belt mount option and works great! Besides the sheath and overall looks of the knife I'd have to say that the scandi grind that they put on the knife was the final selling point i was looking for. Imo the scandi grind is great for beginners learning to properly sharpen their knife quite possibly for the first time in their life. The scandi grind takes the guesswork out of the sharpening angle while freehand sharpening without using a sharpener that is a gadget all in itself to keep your angles perfectly symmetrical from side to side. While these gadgets work great it's just not another thing i need to be carrying in my backpack for a SHTF situation. For those reasons is why i picked the scandi ground Gerber Principal. Took me a little while to find an online seller that had the coyote brown color i wanted but finally did and couldn't be happier with my purchase. The reviews alone had sold me on it honestly lol
This is a very versatile size/shape/design that could easily be the only knife you ever carry. It's not a conventionally-beautiful design but I like the modern/geometric styling. It never hurts to like the looks of your kit : ) The grips, not being conventional "scales" seem like a question mark -- while the texture is nice and grippy, it's impossible to know if they'll last -- and if they don't, replacements seem unlikely. Still, I was looking forward to carrying this on long dayhikes, overnighters and "less adventurous" trips where my Buschcrafter would have been a bit overkill. The sheath, oh the sheath! The techy/plasticky and squared-off look was off-putting for me, but I loved the modular idea -- especially since I was planning so many different uses. The techy/plasticky and squared-off look was off-putting for me, but I loved the modular idea -- especially since I was planning so many different uses. I was stoked to have options and willing to overlook the messy shape as a tradeoff. Nobody mentions it but the design not only lets you try different carry types but also to shift the knife up or down relative to the attachment point, for a "high" or "low" perch. Have always wanted to try scout carry, too. Considering what they were trying to accomplish, I think the sheath is pretty impressive. BUT. Getting the knife *out* is terrible. It's not the retention (which is a bit harsh-feeling, but consistent) -- it's just plain awkward. There's so much plastic, so high up on the handle, that you can't take the knife in your hand and simply pull. I have to grab the butt kind of like a doorknob -- almost with my fingertips -- and then give a sharp yank with that tenuous grip. No thank you! That puts scout carry right out the window, and I doubt any amount of practice could yield confident draws especially with wet or dirty hands, or if reaching up under bulky layers. There is a good thumb rest to help overcome the retention, but I can't get my hand close enough to actually push on it.I have small-ish hands, so when I have a hard time getting a grip on something it's normally because it's too big around, not because of a small contact area. It took me a while to finally decide to return this knife, but it never went anywhere with me because I hated unsheathing it. Not much point keeping it if I'll never use it.Kudos to Gerber for what they were trying with this...but maybe take another stab at it?
comfortable grip: check; full tang construction: check; stainless steel: check; full scandy grind: check; kydex sheath: check; USA made: check. One cannot go wrong with this one: great for camping/back country use. the sheath offers quite a bit of retention out of the box to need to yank pretty hard to get the knife out. The edge stayed sharp through a couple of fire preps and 420HC is pretty easy to sharpen. overall, great value.
