Solid knife and feels good in the hand. Haven't had a chance to try properly but extremally sharp so hopefully can hold an edge. Whistle is flimsy but i guess if you needed it someone would hear it. Got it to keep in backpack when hiking in high county so hopefully will do the trick. Shopped around and Knife Depot still the best price and dispatched and received in no time. Great work..

Great quality knife! Rubberised handle provides better grip and non conductivity. Comes with protective sheath which can be attached to your belt. I’m amazed with the fire starter kit, absolutely easy to use unlike any of the after market ones.

Affordable, reliable, practical. You want this.

I've collected a lot of knives and outdoors/survival gear over the last few decades, including the original Bear Grylls Ultimate Survival knife when it first came out. It was always a handy bit of kit (despite the many haters) and has stood the test of time. What I always wanted to change was the colouring, and then Gerber brought out this version in the right colour scheme. It is still a great design, although I prefer a fine edge rather than serrations, comfortable and practical. For a budget friendly and reliable fixed blade belt knife, with Gerber's lifetime warranty as a backup, you would be hard pressed to do better than this. I have practiced a ton of outdoors tasks, including shelters, fire making and general bushcraft, and have not been let down yet. Great All-Round Knife from Gerber
23 August 2022

I've owned several Gerber branded knives/axes over the years, and they've never let me down. Yes, there are superior knives out there (I know, I own one or two), but they're a lot more expensive than the Gerber knives, so I tend to not use them too much because I hate wrecking knives that cost me a decent amount of money. That's were Gerber knives fit the bill perfectly. They perform just as good as more expensive knives, but they don't cost so much that I'm worried about blemishing them while using them and they always get the job done. This knife appears to be a newer version of the Bear Grylls Ultimate Fixed Blade Serrated knife, but with a revised colour scheme and re-textured handle grip. This knife appears to be a newer version of the Bear Grylls Ultimate Fixed Blade Serrated knife, but with a revised colour scheme and re-textured handle grip. Personally, I much prefer the more muted colour scheme of this knife compared to the black and orange appearance of the Bear Grylls Gerber knives. The best part though is that this knife is way cheaper than the Bear Grylls version was, probably since they don't have to incorporate the cost of financing Bear Grylls' endorsement package anymore. Anyway, this knife is just an ideal all round knife that can pretty much do whatever you could ever need a knife to do, and while I hate using this phrase, this knife really does "tick all the boxes" and then some. I haven't split any small logs with it like some people use their knife for (I use my 20-year-old Gerber Camp axe for that), but I've cut branches and made spear tipped sticks with ease and it's still very sharp, just like it was right out of the box. So, if you're looking for a great quality all round knife that will perform any task you could possibly ever need a knife to do, then the Gerber Ultimate Survival Knife is a superb choice. Also, the fact that this knife is available here in India at the same price as the UK (my brother paid 60 pounds for his back in England) from Outdoor Travel Gear is a real bonus, since finding a reliable retailer of good quality knives online in India has proved to be difficult since I moved here 6 years ago. Seriously folks, I'm actually so stoked that I was able to find a Gerber knife like this available in India that I truly feel like buying another one just to add to my collection, so my advice is to order one as soon as possible before I buy up all the stock, I guarantee that it'll be one purchase that you definitely won't regret. Cheers!! (Actually, just one more thing; I live in Kolkata and I my knife was delivered in 5 days and was well packaged in a box with a reassuring amount of Outdoor Travel Gear tape wrapped around it. So my ordering experience from OTG gets a big thumbs up too, just like my new favourite Gerber knife!)

Great knife. Not the greatest sheath.
22 June 2022

I use this knife in the field on a daily basis and I love it. It's perfect for what i need. No complaints there. The sheath however needs work. The first problem was the plastic clip that keeps the knife seated broke off, which wasn't a huge deal since there was a velcro strap on the handle. The big complaint is that the plastic sheath is attached to the canvas belt loop at the bottom and secured in the center with another velcro strap. After repeated use this strap wears out and walking through brush will release it, flipping the sheath upside down. After a 4 wk stint in the woods, on the last day I lost my knife this way and only noticed it after a long hike through the woods. If they improved the sheath, I would buy this knife again or just buy a separate leather ... MoreI use this knife in the field on a daily basis and I love it. It's perfect for what i need. Impressive knife.
21 December 2022

I read an article reviewing a bunch of survival knives of various price ranges. This knife was mentioned. It scored high and had many desirable features. I found it on sale at Sportsman's WH and bought 3 for Xmas presents. The knife is great. The sheath is is bulky with lots of Velcro straps. The blade is thick and sharp. It could use a bit of honing for a razor sharp edge. But overall a very cool knife.

It’s not perfect, but it’s close.
13 November 2022

There are better knives for lots of things, but not much better as an all rounder. Perfect for general camp duties, bushcrafting, garden work, or home construction/demolition. The Ferrocerium rod is maybe a touch small for regular fire lighting and intended just for emergencies or the occasional hobbyist. Sharpener is good if a little small but perfect for touch ups while away from home. Used the original version for many years, only picked this one up because I regifted my old one to someone else.

Major disappointment; do not recommend.
29 November 2021

Such a disappointment! My son was so excited to receive this for his birthday. I loved the integrated flint and steel design. His first day of using it to try and start a lunch fire resulted in the plastic piece surrounding the flint to break off. Once this broke off it would no longer stay in the flint holder. If the flint holder had at least been inserted from above, gravity would have helped to hold it in. Since it was inserted from below, once the plastic piece broke off it couldn't be attached any longer. A major disappointment for a product I had high hopes for. Returned it and bought a Leatherman instead.

Who Remembers the Bear Grylls Survival Series of Knifes?
19 September 2021

Well if you do, you are looking at it with a fancy new color scheme. This is one of Gerber's china line of knives, which for the current price point of $36.99, makes it a decent value. The blade is 7Cr17MoV Stainless-Steel with a full tang construction. For the price a 4.25 out of 5.Those of you who prefer Gerber's American made line-up in a similar style, but superior knifes, will appreciate their Strongarm, LMF, and Prodigy lines. Not only are they Made In USA, but they sport Gerber's 420 HC steel.
