Been wanting one of rhes for 10 years or so. I have a 2014 Traditional that i upgraded the pickups and tail piece trying to duplicate the R8. Changed the pots and caps too. Alrhough its pretty close , the R 9 still os better. This R9 just jas awesome sustain and tone. The serup is spot on. I jabe bought nearly everything I own through sweetwater taking advantage of free financing. If it were not for the finacing i would not own much. Thanks sweetwater

This was a result of late night intoxicated surfing on line. I purchased this awesome guitar a year ago from MF. I've been very hesitant to take it out of the case. F#ck that. This LP sings. It is the nicest sounding LP I have ever played. A bit pricey but I will keep the fine instrument for the rest of my life.

I ordered one of these last week from this listing and paid the new price for a new R9 as listed. I had it delivered to my local GC store and picked it up yesterday. What I was sent was a banged up, used trade in in an open box. I immediately pointed this out to the staff and they agreed this was not a new guitar. I was told to take it and they would do some research on the matter.I ended up calling and speaking to GC customer service and they asked for pictures and agreed this was a used guitar. GC offered to take $500 off or let me return the guitar for a refund. While I appreciate that, how does one buy a guitar at this price point and then they try to send you a banged up trade in? This is completely unacceptable business practice by GC.The guitar sounds ... MoreI ordered one of these last week from this listing and paid the new price for a new R9 as listed. If they'd been willing to admit their mistake and change my price to the open box price that would be fine. Watch what they send you.

Incredible Piece of Modern History
26 February 2021

Playing mostly high output Jacksons and an ESP Lynch Kamikaze, I had wanted a Les Paul again for a more traditional sound and shape but I never liked the feel of any I had tried out in store off the rack over the recent years for the price.I finally decided to pull the trigger on this one and I was able to trade in/trade up at Guitar Center with some nice gear that I didn't use as much anymore which made the 59 VOS Custom Shop Historic Reissue a bit more "affordable" to me.The Gibson custom shop has created an amazing instrument with these 59 reissues. I have never played an original burst so I cannot make a comparison in that context but this guitar is flawless with an incredible build quality and attention to original detail. The custom buckers have an amazing warm sound to them and the volume and tone controls really work well to adjust the nuances of your sound. I love playing guitars with low action and this one was set up that way on delivery so I didn't have to make any adjustments. It felt and played perfectly right out of the box and I knew I would have no remorse buying this high end instrument.I picked the dirty lemon color which to me is beautiful in and of itself and reminds me of the original bursts that have faded out over time. The appearance really captures the vintage vibe that Gibson is presenting here. The maple top is a little more subtle than a lot of the top of the line figured maple tops you might you see today but that is consistent with many of the original 59s. The VOS (vintage original sheen) finish adds to the historical appearance of the parts and body. The guitar is priced at the higher end for sure, relative to your own individual situation, however, this will be one beautiful instrument that you will want to keep for a lifetime and it is harder to put a price on a guitar like that. You certainly get what you pay for here in my opinion.

Absolutely not. I own telecaster that play and sound better. My epiphone custom isn't that far off from this Overpriced Gibson. I sent it back . I'll keep the money.

Is it wrong to love your guitar?
1 January 2019

Is it wrong to love your guitar?First of all, I am not a professional, but I have been playing for 45 years and I have played a lot of guitars in that time. I own a strat, two telecasters, a 345, a Taylor, a Martin and several others, and this is the best guitar I have ever had. Right out of the case, the Gibson set up was perfect. A super solid dead straight neck, perfect frets and fantastic resonance let this guitar sustain forever. And that's before I plugged it in. The humbuckers can go from bright pop to hard drive to mellow jazz tones with a few twists of the knobs and are super sensitive to playing dynamics. On top of that, the finish on this guitar is beautiful. It's more than a reissue
9 September 2020

This guitar is truly a work of art, it can get you that classic Les Paul tone that every guitar player wants. And it's especially good at getting the rough sounds, of bands like Led Zeppelin or ZZ Top, but no matter what you do with this guitar I guarantee you love the sounds that you'll hear.

Last R9 I will get
21 September 2024

This is the third 59 reissue I owned. I did bond with this one. The dirty lemon is something you don't get tired of. The Custombucker Alnico III's seem more punchy than the Custombucker's I had before. The weight is about 7.8 lbs, and the neck is perfect. I did put on speed knobs, as I don't care about keeping it exactly perfectly the same.

WOW !! By far the best guitar I have ever played !!
10 September 2019

The difference between this guitar and the Gibson USA models is huge!! After playing Gibson Les Paul Standards I could not believe that there was such a huge difference. I finally got what I have been lusting for years. I will never sell this guitar. The craftsmanship, the tone, the feel and the tone that comes out of this guitar is amazing. If you can, save up and buy one. You will love it and keep it for life.
