In order to use any of Gigabytes software you must update the bios to the latest version, which is kind of dumb, because one of their services is a bios updater, that you can't use without updating the bios. The VRM heatsink actuslly extends to the bottom corner or the board, which makes GPU selection incredibly difficult. It interferes with the GPU which makes using a Riser Card almost necessary. If you need a riser cable make sure it is a 4.0 cable, as having a 4.0 GPU and. 3.0 Cable means it won't work, and you'll need to plug directly into the board, which is quite difficult on this board. Having a secondary card like a GT710 or something just to get into the bios to fix this issue is almost a necessity as anything that resets the bios will make your life harder.Overall am pleased with this board, and it's hard to recommend a different ITX board for AMD.

I haven't seen it reoccur again yet, but hopefully a BIOS update will prevent this from happening. It also took a little while to configure the Realtek audio driver to work at a normal balanced level. The out of the box driver configuration was such that volume levels were lower than expected and sounded as if the driver was trying to normalize the audio levels, resulting in inconsistent volume in games and such. Things are just a little tight and cramped on this board, and of course some of that is to be expected with a Mini-ITX form factor board. However, installing a stock AMD Wraith cooler presents two options: have the fan shroud touch the back panel shroud when mounted, or hang slightly over the DDR-a slot. This overhang was mildly annoying (although this arguably could equally be pointed back at AMD), but it would have been nice to have enough space for this to not be a concern in the first place. The board size also apparently left out any room for a USB-C front panel header, or any diagnostic hardware of any kind. The Gigabyte App-Center software is quite inelegant looking and often very clunky in how it ends up functioning. As an example, the RGB Fusion software seems to be hit or miss as to whether or not the color settings will apply to things. While I'm not terribly concerned about RGB, it's still an annoyance to see that it doesn't always work as expected. Hopefully the software development team can work to improve functionality, and even the looks of their software in general. All these little annoyances aside, the board does work very well with current modern hardware, and updating the BIOS using the USB Q-Flash option worked perfectly, even if it felt nerve-wracking while performing it. I especially appreciated that the RAM configuration I had worked under its XMP profile with just a single switch. This motherboard will support a very snappy system in a small form factor. I'd recommend it for anyone looking to build a Mini-ITX system with Zen3 anytime soon, as options are pretty limited at the time of this review. But if more Mini-ITX boards with these chipsets will be manufactured and released soon, it might be worth waiting to see if there are new revisions or boards that give just a little more thought to layout, features, and software. This review was posted for board Rev 1.0 at BIOS level F11n. If you are looking for a fanless mini ITX MB with at least one high speed NVMe drive this is a good candidate. It is a solidly built little board.

Good but outdated, difficult to get up and running
23 September 2022

There's a lot going on with this thing. My main issue is at this point it's an old board and needs a lot of updates before you can even get started. I mean it needs em before you even put a stick of memory or the cpu in. I guess that's acceptable (it shouldn't be) but getting those updates going is a whole process I didn't expect. There's very cryptic rev numbers that are incredibly important to driver downloads that again isn't totally obvious out of the box. Once we're up and running it's a beast, but it's not a simple install if you don't decide to read up on every possible blocker before throwing components on it.

Good fix with AMD stock cooler
12 February 2023

This Gigabyte MB is Rev1.1. Not the latest Rev1.2. Checking Gigabyte website, don’t see any difference between 1.1 and 1.2. This is a great choice for a Ryzen 2/3 iTX PC. With the Ryzen 3600, just use the stock cooler, it’s a good fit. Compare to mATX, while using beefy GPU card, mATX’s additional PCIe slots become useless. USB ports is enough for normal users. The only down side is it doesn’t have USB-C for front panel. This shouldn’t be a big deal as a USB A-C cable is easy to find. Most of iTX case o the market doesn’t have front USB-C port anyway.

Great ITX motherboard hampered by mediocre software
19 December 2020

Chose this for an ITX build in an sandwich-style case. B550 seems to be perfect for ITX boards unless you absolutely need the additional x4 M.2 SSD slot. This board is loaded with features, paired with a 5600X and 32GB of Ballistix RAM. The BIOS has more options than you can shake a DIMM at, and after one failed Q-flash attempt to update the BIOS to the Zen 3 compatible version, two successful BIOS flashes redeemed the feature. Running 4 fans off of two PWM headers and an AIO pump plugged into the third. The one large blemish on this product is the lackluster software package from Gigabyte. The built-in software update tries to load you up with a bunch of useless third-party things that you have to un-check every time. Haven't tried EasyTune. This board was a little cheaper than an alternative, but I can't help but wonder if the software experience would have been better. All that said, I still recommend this board - it's feature-packed and has a premium feel and look with the attractive heat sink and reinforced RAM and PCIE slots.

Great Looking Mini-ITX, Rear M.2 is Gen 3.0, BIOS flash not working
15 June 2021

This board looks and feels well made. It performs as expected and the BIOS is clean and easy enough for me as somewhere between novice and expert. I thought the marketing on the webpage was a bit misleading about the rear M.2. The full specs show that it is gen 3.0, but the marketing material is loud about gen 4.0. Biggest disappointment is the quick BIOS flash tool not working. The system showed power and the many, many USB drives I tried would show activity, but the flash would not start. This seems common for Gigabyte and for other manufacturers as well. I was lucky that this one was ready for 5000 series Ryzen otherwise it would have had to be returned. The in-BIOS flash tool worked fine.

Initially thought it was Win10 being its usual dickish self, but I have a utility called ShutdownGuard running which will normally prevent auto-reboots. Then the PC hard power-cycled while I was working on it, approx ten days ago, and I knew something else was off. Initially thought the issue lay with the PSU, but after a bunch of digging I came across two reviews on Newegg for this board which mirrored my experience - unexpected reboots with zero warning and no overclocking to account for them (search For Garrett's 4* review and the other 2* review there.)Ended up taking this back before the pre-xmas return period expired, and picked up an Asrock B550 mini-ITX replacement. However, that was no good as the SATA ports are through 90 degrees (as opposed to pointing straight up) and I have no clearance between the mobo and PSU.Ended up sourcing another B550i Aorus Pro mini-ITX from a different supplier to try and get a good one. Also using the F10 BIOS which that mobo had by default, as opposed to the F12 I had updated to on the first iteration. Have left BIOS settings completely stock, aside from drive boot order. May up the voltage for the RAM if I still see issues. If that doesn't fix it, this is going back and I'm done with Gigabyte who have completely unacceptable US support - have called the tech support line less than thirty seconds after opening and held for over two hours with no answer. Called more than five times and have never got through. Logged an online trouble ticket and waited over ten days for a reply, only get the brush off of reinstall windows for a USB boot issue which didn't even involve windows (issue was fixed with F12 BIOS).Interestingly, when I returned this to B&H, the returns guy commented that this wasn't the first board he had seen come back, so with that and the Newegg reviews there are certainly come QC issues at Gigabyte currently.

I wanted to write this review as I saw some negative reviews on this board and wanted to clear up any confusions.FYI:Pros: Build qualityCons: None really, you just have to do research on what is and isn't compatible as a pc builder.Bestbuy mislabeled this board, it is USB3.2, not USB3.1. The heatsink on top of the m.2 drive does make contact indirectly to the drive itself through the metal above the heat pipe area. The motherboard is a completely silent fan-less design. Yes, it does come with a wifi/blue tooth antenna that is magnetic.Has three (1 cpu-fan, 2 System fan) 4-pin pwm fan connectors (fool proof connectors that work with 3 fin dc fans as well). For one of the System fans you will have to use an included adapter cable provided with the board. My computer case has the 3.2 front panel connector that plugs right in and everything just works. Do read the power switch layout in the motherboard manual to make sure that you are plugging into the power pin headers correctly. Two m.2 slots front and back. Only the front slot has pcie 4, but it will only run in pcie 4 mode with a compatible CPU so please check the CPU that you are planning to buy. Needless to say, you will also need a pcie 4 m.2 drive to run at that speed.Layout of all connectors make sense and was easy to work with. The metal Backplate on the motherboard adds to the passive cooling of the board and also makes it very easy to handle and safer to lay down.Software:Another review here mentioned that there is no wifi, but that's not true. You will need to go to the manufacturer's website to download the latest drivers (just search by model name on their website), but after installing the wifi/bluetooth should work perfectly and I have not experienced any random disconnects while gaming. My CPU does not have integrated graphics for debug so I was concerned about having to do a bios update via Q-flash Plus (note there is also old Q-flash method of bios update so do not mix that up with Q-flash Plus) since I did not have any old CPUs to use to manually update via web.Fortunately, the Rev 1.1 board came with the latest F15 bios and worked out of the box with my CPU (AMD Ryzen 5 5600x) AND windows 11 out of the box, so no BIOS flash was needed. If for some reason you do need to use the Q-Flash Plus feature to update the bios you will need to go to their website and watch a video they have there.Note that you will download a folder under BIOS tab inside the software/drivers section and inside that folder there are 3-4 files. One of the file has an extension ending in .16e (dot 16e). You will need to rename this to gigabyte.bin and save it into a usb that is no bigger than 16gb and the usb needs to be formatted in FAT32.You can download the APP Center utility tool in the utility section to make updating and controlling the software and fans easier, but this is optional. You press DELETE to enter bios for this board.I use everything at stock settings and did not mess with overclocking or any fine tuning. The only thing I changed was the fan speed via the SMART fan feature in BIOS, which is also accessible via the APP Center tool.My build:JONSBO T8 PLUS BLACK Mini- ITX Tower Computer CaseNoctua NF-A14 PWM Chromax Black, Premium Quiet Fan, 4-Pin (140mm, Black)Noctua NH-U9S chromax.Black, 92mm Single-Tower CPU Cooler (Black)Noctua NF-A9 PWM chromax.Black.swap, Premium Quiet Fan, 4-Pin (92mm, Black) - (I clipped this fan to the other side of noctua heatsink for dual fan setup)Alienware 240Hz Gaming Monitor 24.5 Inch Full HD Monitor with IPS Technology, Dark Gray - Dark Side of the Moon - AW2521HFCORSAIR - SF Series SF750 80 PLUS Platinum Fully Modular SFX Power Supply - BlackXFX - SPEEDSTER SWFT210 AMD Radeon RX 6600 Core 8GB GDDR6 PCI Express 4.0 Gaming Graphics Card - BlackWindows 11 Home - USB Flash Drive - EnglishAMD - Ryzen 5 5600X 4th Gen 6-core, 12-threads Unlocked Desktop ProcessorGIGABYTE - B550 I AORUS PRO AX AM4 USB3.1 AMD Motherboard - Small Form FactorCrucial - P3 Plus 1TB Internal SSD PCIe Gen 4.0 NVMeCORSAIR - VENGEANCE LPX 32GB (2PK x 16GB) 3600MHz DDR4 C18 DIMM Desktop Memory - BlackBuild notes:This is a completely black color build, and everything fits and works perfectly and silently. The motherboard has an orange led on the backside, but you could probably change it with some software (I like the black orange theme so did not mess with this). I can't even hear the fans with my ears at 2 feet distance and barely hear it at 1 foot. Beware that if you use the same graphics card I bought, there is a switch that toggles silent and performance mode (you should only toggle this when power to pc is off). If you have it on the performance side the fan will roar at 2500 rpm. With this setup, the CPU idles at around 50c and when playing Guild Wars 2 or lost ark at max settings/ unlimited frame rate it stays at or below 75c but mostly around 65c-68c. Fans are setup for negative pressure in case.Note: my room heater is set at 74 degrees fahrenheit.

Lives Up to the Hype

Because of the video card supply shortage, had to use an old Asus GT630 card, although the rest of the system compensates to still make for quick graphic design. The only issue was installing Debian Linux. Debian 10 Buster does not have a native driver for the Realtek 2.5 GbE LAN chip. After a few hours of trying to manually load the RealTek RTL8125 driver with no success, I tried the testing Debian 11 Bullseye release, which successfully completed the installation with the r8169 driver. A hearty 5 Star recommendation for the Gigabyte B550I, especially since it does not have a chipset cooling fan that can add noise. The SilverStone SG05BB-LITE case I use has plenty of vent area and temperature has not been a problem.
