It is a new beginning for Kratos. Living as a man, outside the shadow of the gods, he seeks solitude in the unfamiliar lands of Norse mythology. With new purpose and his son Atreus at his side, Kratos must fight for survival as powerful forces threaten to disrupt the new life he has created.

With lowish health, you can't get careless, and the AI will take full advantage. If you can catch the enemy on 1-on-1's, the game is very simple. But if you go against a group, which this game does to you a lot, the game can get difficult.Overall, the game is fun and worth playing. I can't really compare it to previous GoW games, but as its own, it's well made and fun to play through.

God of War. An absolutely incredible and unexpected masterpiece of a game to come out of the series. The creators did not come poetry rebrand themselves and paid respect to the previous games in the series, they maintained the key components that make God of War what it is but combined it with modern, interesting and exhilarating concepts.Graphics are stunning.Gameplay/combat is fluid and interesting. The story is 10/10. It will pull you right in immediately whether you have played the previous games and understand Kratos as a character, or whether it is all brand new to you. The character development is so intensely amazing it will have you sitting at the edge of your seat anticipating what would happen next.

If previous God of War titles were more hack-and-slash, the combat mechanics in this game are amazing. There is great variation and attacks “feel” like they deliver the adrenalin of every blow in combat."Boy" comes into his own in combat as well. Not only does he provide support, but you can give him commands, and set him up to complement your playstyle. I would go so far as to say he is the BEST AI/NPC companion I have ever had in a game. If I had friends in the real world, I would want at least two of them to be like Atreus. You cannot spam attacks and win in this game. You actually have to dodge, parry and block, and make use of those upgrades (runic attacks especially) and key combos. Combat is fast-paced and fun and it all comes together smoothly in combat, whether it’s a few minor minions or one of the epic boss battles. Ultimately, combat is well designed and executed, fitting perfectly into the “easy to learn, challenging to master.”Crafting weapons and armor of course happen, and its progression is well thought out and balanced. You must think and not just buy everything – you will be unlikely to have all the materials to achieve that. So plan your upgrades and skilling accordingly.Controls are tight, responsive, and smooth. Interface and layout are somehow instinctual. I usually rebind my keys. I didn’t have to for GoW… a first in almost 20 yearsThe art is phenomenally breathtaking and makes it worth your while to explore and “go the wrong way” almost everywhere just to see the world (and of course grab all those little hidden loots and rewards that are scattered everywhere). With every location looking stunning, this just carries over into the cut scenes which are extremely cinematic and atmospheric. Immersion cranked up to an 11.This also applies to sound design. This is what AAA sound design (meaning music and SFX) should be like. From the epic voice acting to the music itself, I have nothing to complain about. Kratos SOUNDS like Kratos: Tough, Angry but doing his best to control his anger. Trying to let his love, care, and concern shown for his son, without… showing it. The voice acting conveys so much more than the dialogue of the story.I’m in the "new game plus", and as I play, it feels like I am living, or adding a new myth/legend to the vastness of Norse mythology. The legend of Kratos and Atreus, and hopefully I’ll have “head” (Mimir) narrate it to others in the future.

Boy,... just go buy and play it. <3 It was astounding, astonishingly done, absolutely enjoyed it. Could give 9.99/10. Just there are some nitpicks. My favorite part was the Valkries (also loved the other NPCs as well). Being a Soul player I crave for proper boss battles. Idk for me, Valkries were the only bosses felt like real bosses, a proper challenge to some extent (although not flawless). That brings me to the next point that aside from Valkries other mobs and bosses felt "mmkay". There are hardly any bosses even. I was waiting to see a vast variety of things as I progress through the story. Guess I might have had raised my hopes a bit too high. That only made me a lil sad cause this is a gem. Even though I didn't know Kratos' past I instantly fell in love with this portion of his journey. Now the gameplay isn't bad or anything, It feels fluid just not as amazed as I was in the other parts. Again I just don't mind it, GOW went directly into my fav bucket. They showed exactly how a PC port should be delivered. Nice work. Thanks everyone who have put their effort to bring this to us. ❤️subject to change : Now I saw the Ragnarok trailer, that was mmmwah. Another GOTY?
Somewhere over the rainbowWay up highThere's a land that I heard ofOnce in a lullabySomewhere over the rainbowSkies are blueAnd the dreams that you dare to dreamReally do come trueSomeday I'll wish upon a starAnd wake up where the clouds are far behind meWhere troubles melt like lemon dropsAway above the chimney topsThat's where you'll find meSomewhere over the rainbowBluebirds flyBirds fly over the rainbowWhy then, oh, why can't I?Somewhere over the rainbowBluebirds flyBirds fly over the rainbowWhy then, oh, why can't I?If happy little bluebirds flyBeyond the rainbowWhy, oh why can't I?
Leaving off from God of War 3 and the Greek pantheon store line, I found kratos in new territory and looking more grizzled (bearded etc). I found the new storyline to be a absolutely essential continuation of the series. The whole game was absolutely refreshing. From the combat, to the in-game cinematic sequences, I was on the edge of my seat everytime I picked up the controller to play it. I definitely would recommend this game to anyone loyal to the series and it's upcoming sequel, which is also set in the same Norse setting, looks to be on track to be just as good if not better. I'm no developer nor a pro-gamer just a real big fan of this series and I feel it is a great step forward in the future for God of War.
A perfect combination of character driven story and methodical well-paced combat gives an unforgettable experience set to the backdrop of epic Norse mythology. Open to newcomers and veterans of the series alike, GoW 2018 provides a refined, captivating experience with large scale set pieces and diegesis unrivalled in most other games of the genre. The only limitations come in the form of some combat-centric camera issues, and some enemies that break the mechanical limitations of the player leading to minor frustrations. Some odd narrative pacing often leads to long down times in active play, but often this is compensated for by interesting glimpses into the world. God of War was probably in the top 20 games I've ever played. The narrative is very compelling, and I found the combat to be extremely fun as well. It performs very well. The environments and atmosphere are just incredible, especially considering I've always had a fascination with norse mythology. The only bad thing I can say about this game is that the story ends, but then immediately leaves a cliffhanger afterwards. Needless to say, I am looking forward to Raganarok.
I saw this game on-sale for $10. I am NOT a video game enthusiast. I thought this was a remake of the "original" God of War from a long time ago. This is a "reboot" for a new trilogy(?)....could be called God of War 4. I purchased this for PS5. Had never played previous God of War. Sort of a Mortal Kombat meets Open-World gaming. But, it is "linear" enough that I don't get lost. There also isn't so many extras that you can never "finish everything". My favorite part of the game was the Valkyries. Not to spoil anything, but there are optional "bosses" that you can go around and beat - either during the game or after you finish.
This is definitely closer to Uncharted 4 than Breath of the Wild -- at least for the first several hours.I haven't made it super far into the game, but early on you're not really allowed to explore the world. It's very linear and scripted, but the game itself is sorta blended with the "movie" aspects, so it has a nice seamlessness style with it.An apt comparison to Zelda games, though, is all the puzzles. It's all very environmental and blended into the scenery, and you have to solve the puzzles to move forward through the world kind of like a permanent zelda dungeon. The only awkward part -- besides the sorta painfully obvious tropes -- is how there's so much restriction to go along with the story. It's all very environmental and blended into the scenery, and you have to solve the puzzles to move forward through the world kind of like a permanent zelda dungeon. The only awkward part -- besides the sorta painfully obvious tropes -- is how there's so much restriction to go along with the story. Again, I don't know if this is only the first portion of the game, and I just haven't made it to where things open up further ... but it reminds me so far of being like a much much much more restricted version of "Horizon: Zero Dawn". That too has an early story part, and of course Breath of the Wild has the plateau, but they're really just restricted portions of the game that teach the mechanics. God of War, though, feels like it's restricting sooooo much so that you can follow along the story -- a lot more like an Uncharted kind of game. You basically follow a super limited path until you get to an open-ish area, and then that area turns into a big fight arena, you beat the baddies or maybe fight a boss or mini boss, and then you move forward with some puzzles and bonuses if you're willing to explore and look for stuff on the side ... but if you look around toooo much, you'll find that there's basically nothing in most places.I'm still early in the game, and it gives the impression that the game opens up and places become areas to return to and go through again, but I haven't seen any of that yet, and with the amount of time I've put in so far, games like "Horizon: Zero Dawn" and "Breath of the Wild" would have already opened up to the "open world" aspect.Basically, it's like an Uncharted version of "Horizon: Zero Dawn" that's promising the open world freedom and side missions and things, but maybe it's just a different kind of balance between freedom and story, and this is just leaning more towards story. The axe is super friggin' dope, though, and playing on harder difficulties really requires you to coordinate a LOT to deal with even just 2, let alone 15 baddies at the same time. Especially as you have like flaming rock throwing monsters on ledges and crazy shielded monsters and running around hyper monsters, and it's just like 20 things happening at once, which is awesome. It's challenging, but it's not infuriating, because it basically comes down to forcing you to act like a movie action hero. You have to toss baddies into other baddies, throw your axe up at the ledge baddie's head then kick the monster in front of you, call your axe back and follow up the kick with a smash, and just power through like it's a crazy coordinated fight scene. It's a really really neat learning curve and style for success. There are ways to possibly hide or run in and smash and run out, but that's really only possible with the big troll bosses, because it's kinda how they're designed to be fought. For the regular fights, you can't really "cheat", because everyone sorta has a pattern, and you're meant to jump between each type of baddie so that the timing of their attack patterns lines-up with your attacks and you don't get destroyed immediatley. If you try and cheap-shot from a distance, it's like a weird timing thing where you have to wait for the pattern to loop and jump in once every loop. It's possible, but extra extra tedious, and it's basically an indication that you're doing the game wrong. You shoulda planned better and looked cooler.Super self-contained and not sure how replayable it'd be, if you just rush through games, but it's worth going through it and it seems pretty well stuffed to be worth the playthrough.
