The LED Light Stick LC500 from Godox looks like a light saber or wand and its "magic" is its versatility and sheer pleasure of use. The Light Stick is 22" long with a diameter of 2" and its 516 LEDs have a color temperature of 5600K or 3300K to meet ambient conditions, match other fixtures, or just for creative effects. Light intensity is variable too, from 10 to 100% to meet your subject's illumination requirements. While its output is omni-directional, it can be shaped and directed by the included barndoors. The Light Stick's handle makes it a shoe-in for hand-holding and use as a hairlight, side light, or main light for selective lighting and distinctive portraiture. Additionally, the female threads on the base of the handle allow stand-mounting and hands-free use. A wireless remote control with 16 channels and 6 groups is provided to make adjustments at a distance. The Light Stick has a built-in Li-ion battery that gets two hours of run time on a 2.5-hour charge. A padded carry case is furnished for storage and transport.

As many others have pointed out, this Godox ice light is many dollars less expensive than the Westcott model. Not having owned or played with that product, I can't draw any first hand comparisons between the two. For my purposes, the Godox model was more than good enough. I used it for the first time at a shoot in an old historic home. Windows in those old houses are typically small, both to keep the home cooler in the summer and to keep the heat inside in the winter, for this particular northeast US climate. Bad for available light photography though, and so I put three Godox ice lights to work providing just enough soft illumination to give me the exposure I needed and to deal with those nasty deep fireplace shadows. Bad for available light photography though, and so I put three Godox ice lights to work providing just enough soft illumination to give me the exposure I needed and to deal with those nasty deep fireplace shadows. The light was natural, filling in those deep shadows when you dialed in the right amount of intensity, that can be adjusted from 100% down to 10%. I played with both the daylight setting and warmer tungsten level light. Working with a combination of diffused daylight and moderate Godox light set for Tungsten, the effect was very natural for this type of subject. I've tried using remote strobes before but the effect was too cold and the images too snappy, caused by the increased micro-contrast result of using speedlights. Color filtering those did not help. Anyway, the Godox ice lights were each mounted on a light stand, but I can see how some could complain about the weight being somewhat heavy. The longest I've had the lights on during any session was about 45 minutes with no issues of power, color change, or light intensity loss. Shifting the barn doors from one side of the stick to the other is inconvenient, but certainly not a deal breaker given that these are an incredible value otherwise. Whether you're a studio shooter, location shooter, or both, I think you'll get a lot of use out of these lights. They're a very good investment.

I ordered one of this light sticks recently to test it and I was very surprised with this light, so far I have used it for a couple of interview and I will be ordering 2 more. Easy to use, compact the battery last enough for up to an hour and it covers the two main color temperatures enough light for indoor.

We bought these for indoor, on-location photoshoots with the idea that we would have our assistant use them handheld while we shoot. The lighting looks great and the barndoors work well too. The only minor issue is the weight of the item. I can see our assistant getting tired carrying two of these around, but ultimately we should be fine. Overall a good product that we are looking forward to using more.

So many practical uses for this thing. From a mood accent, to interview lighting on the fly, to even just lighting your work space. It's so good someone stole my first one so I bought another!
I plan on using this for light painting. I have yet to really spend time with this. The Light balance can be changed from the ~3300K on one side of the stick to 5600K on the other side. The reflector (Barn doors) can be slid forward and the device turned to reseat the reflector for use on either side. The brightness? This thing is BRIGHT when you dial it up to 100 percent. I would say as bright as my other continuous lights. (Bright!)They carrying case is nice and protective.I can see why someone might buy two of these as portable continuous lighting. Can be mounted on stands and has wireless control ability.Very nice! Might have to buy another.
I bought the Godox LC500 on a lark, thinking it would be a good haul along travel light. I don't like carrying light kits, but thought this light saber might be useful. Boy, is it ever. I've used it to fill light daylight images, single illuminate B&W portraiture and provide work lights when doing astrophotography. Only regret is that I didn't buy another BEFORE prices went up. They're still worth it, but mine was a solid value buy- don't see many of those on new gear anymore.
This light is somewhat unusual for me cause Ive never used one like it before but I love the possibilities. I use this as a secondary light. It's nice for lighting under the face or just giving a subject enough light on one side of them, so there is a good tone. I love that it travels so easily. Great power and brightness. Good long battery life. This is going to be fun to do lots of experimenting with. I love it!
Great addition to my gear. The light is versatile and easy to adjust, both color temp and power. So far, I've only used it for light painting outdoors and I was very pleased with the soft quality for painting the landscape. However, even at the lowest setting, it was a little too bright for some of the textured objects in my scene, so I'll continue to use my diffused flashlight for those. Also, there's a lot of light spill off the back which needs to be blocked at night. Not a fault of the light, just some tweaks & things to keep in mind when light painting. I haven't yet used it as a fill light, but I think it will work great for that as well.
The light stick is surprisingly powerful yet flexible. I've been using it for food photography, and it's been great for that. Good for the studio and convenient for location jobs, too. I've used it with a diffuser panel and on its own with the attached barn doors. The barn doors are flimsy and probably could have been designed better (closer to the unit for tighter control, less light leak), but still gets the job done nicely. Good battery life for most jobs, lasts hours on a single charge. Remote control comes in handy.
First off, this light stick works great with it's two different light channels. With its barn doors, I was hoping to use it for long exposure light painting where I can use it in front of the camera. Unfortunately, there is too much light leak from the back of the light. I've had to make a secondary cover for the backside of the light. Beyond that, I don't like the power button being in the middle of the adjustment buttons. I've switched settings when I meant to just turn the light off. The battery lasts an extremely long time, although it would be nice to have a replaceable battery, so I can just swap batteries and keep shooting if needed.
