A Decent Product for a Reasonable Price

I wanted to use an umbrella diffuser, but was afraid that it would be damaged by the hot, incandescent lamp. Since it has a variable control, it is easy to run at a lower, more appropriate, light level.I did a lot of internet research about the SL60W before making the purchase. I will add my take to some of the major comments I found. There have been many comments about high fan noise with the SL60W. Some people have gone so far as to replace the fan with one that produces less air flow. LED’s need to be kept from overheating in order to preserve their life. Any attempt to reduce the air flow is fraught with danger. You can hear the fan (really the air motion) in a very quiet room. Since I have an umbrella between the subject and the light, it is barely noticeable at the subject position. To give some practical idea of the sound level, the light is louder than the fan system on my 7.1 surround sound receiver, but it is quieter than the air blowing from the furnace / air conditioner in the room or the cooling fans on my desktop computer. There have been complaints about the remote control indicating a different color temperature than that of the light. This remote control is used for several different Godux lights. Some permit color adjustment, and some are tungsten balanced. If the reading bothers you, just change it. It’s just a quick menu item. Otherwise, ignore it.Another comment about the light is that, while the light is capable of going down to 10%, the remote control only permits control down to 25%. Apparently, Godox heard the complaints. My remote controls down to 10%.Some reviewers expressed concerns about the tilt system. The lamp employs a detent system and simple rotary tightening lever to control the tilt. As such, the selection of the tilt angle is somewhat coarse. Since much of the system is plastic, a little caution must be exercised so as not to break it.The lamp has provision for installing light modifiers like umbrellas. There is a hole in the bracket under the lamp housing and a tightening set screw to hold such items in place. The included reflector has a knock out, aligned with the hole to permit the umbrella shaft to pass through. The power cord is quite long. This is a very handy feature. I measured it at about 16 feet (or almost 5 meters). It’s labeled as having 1.31mm2 / 15 AWG conductors. The lamp is reasonably light in weight. The Bowens accessory mounting system is handy and seems to work as expected. As others have commented, it would be nice to have a case included. Of course, that would add to the price. Cases that would fit the light are available, but are costly. For now, I will just use the box the light came in.In summary, while it’s not perfect and may not work well in ultra-critical applications, the Godux SL60W provides a lot of function at a very reasonable price. I have used it for a couple weeks already, and I’m very happy with my purchase.

I bought four of these to light a 10' x 10' set in my studio. While primarily for video, this set is also for product photography. While I had four of these on initially, I actually ended up turning two off entirely and then turning the remaining two down. These produce a good quantity of light, plus they are compatible with the soft boxes I use on my mono-lights, so this save having to buy separate adapters/soft boxes. I didn't ever hear the running fans that others have described. These have lots of adjustment from 10% to 100% and almost an annoying amount of adjustment because to get from 10 to 100, you must turn the adjustment dial like a gazillion times! Other than this annoyance, they worked perfectly and use the same accessories as your regular studio ... MoreI bought four of these to light a 10' x 10' set in my studio. Build of product is very good and they come packed very well too.

These lights work great...but only the actual light units. The rest of the components in this kit are quite poorly designed and began to fall apart after only 8 months of light use. I contacted B&H to redeem the manufacturer warranty that accompanies this item (for the first year). In order to redeem the warranty I had to ship the full kit back to B&H at my own cost ($230 for shipping, since this kit is large and heavy!) AND pay duties on import it back into Canada on the replacement (the second time I paid duties on the same item!). B&H seems to have little care in how these warranty policies impact their buyer. I reached out to multiple reps, all who offered little sympathy for my position. In the end, redeeming this warranty cost me $330. Exactly what I was looking for
17 December 2021

I personally don't buy into the hype of other "marketing bloated" brands that are pushed to be the "one and only" brand that you should by. I bought this SL60W knowing it's features and specs and I'm pleased to say that it it lives up to be exactly what it is sold to be. Why would I compare to it to another light that costs MUCH more, sold with way more features? For a 100 dollar bill on Cyber Monday, I'm very impressed. A 60 watt, daylight balanced, high CRI, bowen mount light on wall power. It works. It's bright. It doesn't flicker. It's pretty quiet. Thanks Godox! Highly recommend!

Great light for small creator studios
31 January 2023

These lights are great for small studios like YouTube creators usually have. I have a couple of the daylight balanced, and a couple of the warm yellow ones. That's a small sample, but the color is consistent, unlike some cheaper lights. They are pretty compact, but still have good heat dissapation. They also take a standard Bowens mount, which a lot of lights smaller than this one do not. If you uneed 300 watts, you know it. But if you don't, I think this is pretty much the sweet spot in price for a quality light.

Great light on a budget
13 April 2022

I purchased this light for various video projects I create. The quality of the light is great, I'm really happy using this light paired with the Angler soft box. I have used this light for photography as well, which has been awesome - I enjoy working with continuous light. My reason for 4 stars is the noise that comes from the fan. It's subtle, but for interviews that are in a quiet, smaller-room setting, you will probably hear the fan in the background of your audio. I'm curious if the Aputure lights are actually quieter than this.

Packs a powerful punch
9 January 2023

Very compact, easy to use and gets very bright! I just shot a YouTube video with it and luckily it was more than capable of holding its own because my old light (not this brand) shorted out on me right before the shoot. It does hum, but it's not nearly as loud as you may think. It's a super quiet hum that my mic didn't pick up.Since my old light broke, I'm gonna buy a second one of these bad boys.

Perfect for a quality 2nd light at an affordable rate
25 February 2023

I do video production typically in small spaces (houses & rooms) and was concerned about the reported noise from the fan. Granted I use shotgun mics on a boom but I don't notice the fan in post at all.Light quality is great and is a nice compliment to my larger Godox.Spent a lot of time looking for a low cost light that would be a quality replacement to my current and am happy with this light.

Truly so pleased with this light! I pair with the Aputure lantern and it distributes the light so well. Love the brightness range. Love the affordability!! Only deductions are that 1) The fan does 'hum' a little bit. Not as much as the older models I've seen in reviews. It may pick up if my mic is right near it. It's quiet enough that it's not a total pain though! Can correct the audio in post. And 2) It doesn't come with a case. Which is fine, but I wish Godox or a third party sold one separately at the very least. I've DIYed one out of a cloth bag I had, but it doesn't fit very well, nor is it that protective. So it will be a bigger task to DIY one properly. Typically I wouldn't think the no-case thing is a big deal (I'd heard others complain about it in reviews ... MoreTruly so pleased with this light! Typically I wouldn't think the no-case thing is a big deal (I'd heard others complain about it in reviews before I bought it myself and was like 'that's a stupid concern, whatever'), but most professionals who need lights travel with them (as do I - creating content while living on the go), and it's scary every time we load up not knowing if something in vehicle is going to squish it in the wrong spot. Even at home, I like having a case to store things like this safely and neatly, I guess. Not everyone has the space to leave their equipment out full-time at home if they don't have an office, so that's lots of packing and re-packing and a case/spot to put it would be ideal for storage. Just as a practicality feature. I would be open to buying one third party as well but haven't seen anything that would satisfy better than a better fitting DIY. I wish I could give this 4.5 stars instead of 4 because it shouldn't be that much of a deterrent but I have noticed it to be a bit of a pain. Only complaint though! Otherwise GREAT light!!!

Surprisingly bright

Likes: compact, lightweight, controllable with other Godox units via included remote. Very bright at max setting. Must caution that to date I have not had any issues with the mount or tilt mechanism, just concerned about potential issues.Concerns: Largest part of the tilt housing is plastic. There are metal sleeves on the actual tripod mount, but the tilt mechanism squeezes a large molded plastic piece, which makes me worry about eventual cracking of that piece. To tighten the tilt mechanism sufficiently to hold with an umbrella or softbox attached requires lots of effort. Mounting hole for umbrellas set in the tilt mount, well back from the front of the unit, which considerably limits the fore/aft positioning options for the umbrella. I found that even at the maximum distance between light element and the umbrella surface the light was too close to get maximum spread of the light beams. Means you may have to use a softbox with its special front ring mount instead in order to get a wider light spread.
