The built-in battery is very good but not Propac good.One reason is because the 685+Propac seems to have overall a faster recycle time than this (1 second at full power, two pops before recycle...and of course the endurance is insane). But, on a recent shoot, the 685 seemed to be the only flash that failed to fire here and there - the V1 seemed on the mark every time. In other words, it kept up. I'll try more challenging shoots later.I'd still choose a 685+propac for certain scenarios like shooting a group photo outdoors at anything around 80-200mm. The V1 doesn't seem to have the right reach/shape for a shot like that. But for everything else, I'm quickly starting to prefer it. Highly recommended.

I initially purchased the Godox V860III because it was a little cheaper and I was not crazy about the round head as I thought it would be too big. I also wanted to be able to trigger my AD200 with the flash on the hot shoe. The V860III that I received was defective; I returned it for an exchange however, they were out of stock. B&H gave me a good discount on the V1 so I went with it for a replacement.After using it, I really like the V1. It is not that much bigger than a standard speedlight. With the exception of the wheel on the back, the build quality is very good, much better than I expected. My only (minor) complaint would be that the wheel on the back feels a little on the cheap side. It works fine but just does not have that quality feel to it like the rest ... I bought the flash and accessories new and expected to receive new items. I received opened box items instead. How shady is that to be selling open-box items on brand new price? Purchased the Godox V1 with a little skepticism due to price point. I was pleasantly surprised at the ease of use and it works really well for my needs. It is not the strongest flash so if you are expecting the output of a powerful strobe I would look elsewhere. With that said, it is powerful enough to get great shots I otherwise could not in lower light situations on my Nikon Z8. I also really like the ability to add accessories by way of the magnetic head. Just simply slap a diffuser dome or bounce card on and off. Overall, I reccomend this flash, especially for the price point and ease of use.

The hot shoe on the flash itself is now metal, which is't always the case with Sony compatible flashes and accessories due to the smart feature connectors on Sony Camera hot shoes. I tried Westcott's latest flash with the slick touch screen, but I ended up preferring the Godox physical buttons and dials. I find it easier to get muscle memory down and use the menus quickly and easily this way. The Westcott has better color accuracy, but I was able to get the godox white balanced like I want it with gels. And the Godox is much less expensive.The only complaint I have is that TTL still doesn't work with the flash trigger on my cameras. Yes, it fits the V1 so now I will have one battery that can be charged with USB C.One accessory that I would highly recommend is the magnetically attached dome diffuser. I rarely shoot straight on flash but sometimes outside I do for fill. With the diffuser and the flash dialed down 1-2 ev the improvement can be remarkable. No dark eye sockets, the skin tones look beautiful and it doesn't have that flash look. I don't know of anything else that will produce that much improvement in an outdoor portrait for just $12.But if you are willing to spend more than $12, take a good look at the Angler FastBox, I got the 28 inch model. I won't go into it here, that's another review, it's just perfect for the V1/V1 Pro.In summary, I could not be happier with my new Godox V1.
It's a fantastic flash and it truly does rival Profoto's A10 in terms of performance, output and recycling times. The one area that Profoto wins in by a country mile is ease of use. The V1 has a very complex menu so if you are working events, be sure you get used to all the dials and buttons beforehand or you will get overwhelmed and miss shots. However, once you get the hang of it, it's truly incredible and the best-value premium speedlight on the market. 76 watts of power is also immense and is on par with Profoto. You can comfortably use this as a fill light strobe.
It's misleading for Godox to say this is compatible with the Nikon Z8. I used it for the first time last night at an event and the TTL exposures were all over the place -- overexposed, underexposed and occasionally properly exposed. After coming home I did some internet research and found that Godox flashes have known issues with keeping up with Nikon cameras. Will the next firmware update solve the problem? Perhaps, but who knows when it will come out and if it will work. I'm greatly disappointed, as my previous experience with a Godox flash, for a Fujifilm XT-3, was excellent.I think it would be helpful if B&H could stay on top of such issues and provide advisories for buyers. That might be impossible given how many products B&H deals with. Still ...

I took a leap in faith and am so pleased that I did. I purchased the Godox V1-C with the modifier kit, all in all about $260+ give or take. A sound and solid investment! This thing is a work horse! It's like they smashed a trigger, modeling lamp and a very versitile flash into an affordable, compact and awesome design. Thankfully, Godox covers Panasonic and Olympus from m4/3 and the full frame bodies work on the same TTL system. This flash is super powerful, easy to use, and in my 20+ years experience shooting photos, it has the best battery life of any flash I've ever owned. I've taken it out about 3-4 times (roughly 100-200 activations) and I still have a full battery. I think it's specs say 400 or 500 full flashes, but I never have to use 1/1 full power flashes so the battery last a really long time. The mount. This flash is more modern than my old screw down manual units, and the mount has a push button half twist mechanism, which I've seen mixed reviews about. Personally, this was a bonus for me. It's super quick to mount and dismount and it feels plenty secure.2. Pivot head. Normally, with older flash units, if you want to shoot above and slightly behind you, you have to twist the head all the way then push it up towards the ceiling. With the V1, Godox gave it enough flex to no only push up towards the ceiling, but it can point slightly behind you, so there is less of a need to flip the head all the way around.3. The modeling light can be used as a video light in a pinch. It's warm in color (I like warm lights) but this comes in handle if you do not have any video lights with you. The modeling light has 10 levels of brightness that can be changed with a turn of the wheel and the unit does not need to be mounted to the hot shoe to work.I've had it for about a month now, so I can't speak to the longevity, but so far, I think the V1 is the best flash I've owned.
