It's an amazing light and super silent when running so video production is a breeze. The light just works well and allows you to focus on other aspects of production. I bought this at a heavily discounted price so it comes with amazing value for money! Highly recommended!

Beautiful light for videoconferencing

I use 2 of these bouncing light off umbrellas for video conferencing. Most people look absolutely terrible on video conferences - they sit in front of white walls or windows, and their face is often lit from the display, which probably has a color rendering index of less than 20. Using this light overpowers any light from the screen, and the color quality is incredible. The brightness is adjustable and very, very quiet when the fan comes on. In a 72 degree room, my fans will come on after 10 minutes at 35% power, but I can't hear them unless I get up close and listen carefully. The case is impressive - nicely padded with high quality zippers and separate compartments for the cables, power brick/controller, and light. I haven't used the reflectors yet. There is also a solid plastic cover to protect the LED when transporting. The overall quality was higher than I was expecting. This is my first set of video lights.

This was such a wonderful surprise. I wanted a good secondary light to match my Aputure C300D mkii, and I was very pleasantly surprised that it not only comes very close to matching the color accuracy, but the power output of this light is so much more than I expected. It's so good, that I even thought about selling my C300D, and just using 2 VL150s. Didn't do that, but it would have worked fine.

Fantastic Light. Quiet, Bright, Well Designed.
15 February 2021

The title says it all. This light does it's job just perfectly. As a content creator myself and a producer for others, I bought this light as a key for interview scenarios. It looks great, runs quietly, gets plenty bright, and is well built. The case is an excellent touch and appears to be plenty tough to handle the rigors of light-duty transport for location shooting. While I haven't ever used the Aputure 120d, I wouldn't hesitate to point you to this light if that's the look you're after. I use The VL150 with the Aputure Lightdome II and it reproduces that look perfectly at 60% of the cost of the Aputure unit.If I had to pick nits, I'd say that the yoke knob should be a lever for getting a bit more torque, as the Lightdome II is large and heavy. Great affordable alternative to aperture 120dii with almost no downsides.
9 December 2020

Great light for the price! Bought 2 for less than the price of a single aperture 120dii. Solid carrying case that you can fit 2 units in if you wanted to consolidate (without Bowen’s reflectors). Super bright, sturdy build. Has a slightly more magenta cast, but that will fix itself as LED’s become more green over time so this will have a longer usable life. If you want to match other lights you can easily gel with 1/2 or 1/4 plus green with minimal light loss. Only downside is I’m not in love with the multiple piece power and control unit, but they make it so you can attach them as one piece if you’d like and hang it on the stand. Hoping that small piece of vinyl it hangs on will last.

Great light. Solid quality.
10 April 2022

Compact and powerful light for its size. Very silent. I can't see anyone having issues with noise unless they strapped a mic to the light. I do wish the power brick were better designed like the Aputure lights, but it is cheaper in price. The mount adjustment is super solid; I would say better than Aputure. One thing I noticed was a slight difference in brightness when plugged in to wall power vs battery power.Overall this is an easy light to reccomend.

Mostly Great
24 January 2021

I got this light last week and so far I'm mostly pleased with it. It's very bright and fits all of the Bowens mount accessories that I have. The controller and power box are separate but the wiring is easy to set up. Unfortunately the cone-shaped reflector that comes with it is almost useless. It increases the light output to be sure but it creates a glaringly obvious hot-spot in the center of the beam. I replaced it with an inexpensive after-market reflector with more of a bell shape and the problem was eliminated. (?) The active cooling system is very quiet. All in all, a good addition to my studio. We'll see if it lasts.

Save yourself the headache and get a Forza 200! Even a GVM is a more reliable brand. I bought a VL150 in January and was really excited about it.I wish I had the same experience as these other bots but I didn't. Out of the box, the light would flicker and turn off, for me to turn on again. This dance would happen a few times in a full day's shoot. The controller was the culprit. My 3rd time using it, it would just not turn on at all.I reached out to their customer service since it was still under manufacturer's warranty and they basically told me to just go ahead and buy a replacement controller. They had no intentions of honoring their manufacturer's warranty. Powerful and well made light - amazing price
30 October 2020

If you are reading this, I think you know that this is a knock off of the 120D by Apurture. I owned that Apurture light and after buying this one, I sold my Apurture, put in another $100 and bought the VL300 as my second light. The main differences are in the power brick not being as nice (2 parts, but cords are long) and this particular reflector has a bit of a hot spot (not an issue with a soft box), but it does make it WAY brighter than the 120D when it is on. No DMX either. Build and yoke are great. Bowens mount holds gear better, light quality is great. Very quiet fan. Check out Gerald Undone's review on Youtube for a great overview. Overall, the things you give up are few and the light is great. Buy it.

Worth the investment
1 December 2020

This is an awesome light! I was using the SL60W for 1 year, it has barely decent power, but the fan was way too loud. The VL150 gives everything I didn’t have with the SL60. At 35-40% the fan stays off (for a while), but even with the fan on it’s barely noticeable. And at full power it’s massively bright in a 60” octa. I’ve never used constant light for photos, but test shot portraits at 60-80% power and I was impressed. Can definitely act as a great video and photo light when you need a minimal travel setup. The only thing I don’t like is all the cables and battery pack. But well worth the trade off for power and silence. If you’re upgrading from the SL60, it’s well worth the investment.
