A WORTHWHILE UPGRADE
2 February 2023Lisa B.

originally posted on hypop.com.au

I shoot events (concerts / nightclubs) where I run up to 7 strobes at a time, and am loving the small conveniences of the version two. Among my favourite upgrades are the backlit buttons, double tapping the side group buttons to toggle groups on & off, the scan feature to find the channels with least interference, improved battery cover lock, and the simple hotshoe lock. Small quality of life improvements that make working with the XPro more enjoyable. There are tons of features I’ll never use, like Bluetooth and app connectivity, though for some people it may be handy. Loved my XProII dearly, and this is an improvement in every area. Worth the cost of upgrading for my use case.

Awesome device!

I use the XproII-N in conjunction with a Godox MS300 on my Nikon D800.Plus & Play without great setupYou can connect more devices via the other channels, but I haven't figured that out yet. My studio flash was immediately recognizedon “A” and could start right away. Setting the power via the transmitter works 1A!I'm glad I chose the XProII because the large display is very pleasant and the device is very light. The alternative would have been an X1T/X2T, but since I don't use a clip-on flash in addition, I don't have to rely on the small display of these devices. Absolute buy recommendation!

Having a spare part handy solves the problem, but it's always nice to know the battery level."

Great for Godox. Works with Canon Flash/Godox X1R pair too.
11 August 2020

Bought it to use two Godox TT685C Thinklites with my older Canon Speedlite 550EX, triggering the latter with the inexpensive Godox X1R receiver in a three flash setup. The trio work perfectly together outdoors using the WiFi radio link that is unimpeded by sunlight and does not need line-of-sight alignment. There are two downsides. First, the instruction manual is incomplete and written in broken English. Second, there are a few bugs. The flash zoom indicator on the Godox units don't show the actual zoom when set to __ (double underscore) for Remote Control Zoom. However, the flashes do properly zoom to whatever you set on the XProC. So, just set to Remote and forget. When I first set the XProC to high speed sync, I struggled to get the HS indicator to light up on the TT685Cs in slave mode because I mistakenly thought the HS indicator was a ready light on the TT685C's. In fact, it only lights after firing to indicate that HS sync occurred successfully. This is explained nowhere. A quick call to B&H's knowledgeable flash expert straightened me out on this point: set HS sync on the XProC and a high shutter speed on the camera and the Godox flashes will follow along with HS sync. There's one additional step in my hybrid setup: you have to set the Canon 550EX to HS sync manually. I usually buy OEM accessories, but the Godox kit cost a small fraction of what three Canon flashes plus the Canon controller would have set me back. After viewing a couple of YouTube videos, I understood all of the poorly documented features. I'm very happy to have saved the money. One final caution. The XProC can only control Godox devices. If you want to put a Canon Speedlite in the mix, you'll have to buy the Godox X1R receiver and trigger the Speedlite via the X1R's hot shoe. This solution was cheap and effortless.

Great upgrades
13 March 2023

I've only had it the Xpro ll for about two weeks. So far so good. I had to replace my previous version. Which was a wonderful workhorse. It was just time. This version has some very practical and functional upgrades such as Bluetooth. And I really love the channel scan. This helps find the best ch for any given location. It's is slightly bigger and the buttons a spaced apart more. Which I love. No more hitting the wrong button when you're in the thick of it. Great product.. definitely give it a try!

Just order it and enjoy
6 February 2023

If you use a lot of OCF and have invested in the Godox ecosystem then the XPro is going to be a must have for you.The key new features are the larger LCD and button layout making it far simpler to use than the horribly fiddly X1-T.The TCM feature 'borrowed' from Profoto is a welcome addtion. And FINALLY they have added the ability to remotely change the flash zoom on a group basis. The setup menu is now clear thanks to the larger display whereas on the X1T it was a confusing mess of FN numbers you had to look up or memorise.I definitely wouldn't delay. Just order it. You won't be sorry!!!!!

Shorting out after 5 months
3 August 2022

I bought this in March 2022 to use with my Canon 5D Mark IV, 2Godox AD200Pro TTL Pocket Flashes and Godox AD400Pro Witstro All-in-One Flash. Love the simplicity and how I can change the controls on it for the flashes. However, the last 2 weeks, every time I try to press any buttons, the trigger cuts off. I've replaced batteries after batteries, cleaned the shoe, and still shorts out. It's very frustrating because I do volume shoots and multiple teams back to back. This issue has slowed me down so many times.

The Heart of the Godox System
21 July 2022

Using Godox strobe units without this device isn't what you want to do. The ease of not having to raise and lower stands to set power levels is the key to working with Godox. Cuts your time in half fiddling with ratios and logistics. Impresses clients with how well you use their time.Easy learning curve. Hint. Reset the trigger after every job. Take the batteries out when you're not using it. Don't use rechargeable batteries. Use alkaline or lithiums. Stay away from lithium polymer rechargeables altogether.

There are some not very pro gotchas
17 June 2022

This unit works, but it's fiddly enough that I've had to troubleshoot it on set multiple times, burning client time and making me look dumb.It turns out there's a slight tolerance issue with battery mounting internally.putting a piece of gaffer's tape on the inside of the battery door has mostly fixed this issue. The batteries are likely to succumb to gravity and fall downward, causing powering off issues and low voltage no fire issues. For the price, one would expect better R&D on this.OH! And alkaline batteries are going to be much more consistent and reliable when it comes to reliable flash fires. Using rechargeables is OK, but once they run down to about 1/2 to 1/3rd, the flash will often not fire consistently. This is a known issue with lots of camera gear, as it can be pretty voltage dependent, and rechargeable AA's run on slightly lower base voltage. It works, I'll continue using it, but I expected much more of a trouble free experience.

Works the Canon flash gap
30 March 2023

I was a solid Canon Flash fan (600 EX-RTs and ST-E3-RT) until recently. It seems that with so many additional devices in the 2.4 GHZ spectrum, that the link is dropped between transmitter and receiver and can't reconnect (known recent issues - lots of posts on Canon forums). After a lot of research, and after deciding not to spend a lot of money on a complete new flash system, I decided to use the XProC to replace the Canon ST-E3-RT and add a X1R-C onto each Canon flash to regain the consistency of my OCF system (fyi: I always shoot manual flash). I've been happy with the results thus far.Pros: Changing power levels (or on/off) per group is very easy, intuitive, and faster than Canon's in-camera options. Setting/changing a channel across all is very easy. Display is large, easy to read. Using HSS is straightforward. Several years when I moved from 580/430 flashes to the 600's I was unable to continue to use my old flashes. With the Godox triggers and receivers, I can actually intermix all of my flashes again!Cons: You need a X1R-C per (non-Godox) flash. Now there are even more equipment pieces to keep up with and more batteries to manage. (fyi: Do not use rechargeable batteries with Godox. Can have inconsistent results and battery charge levels will not display accurately). An aside: I've read (and observed) that the XProC display can get scratched easily. I bought about a foot of 100 Vinyl Fuse - Gloss Finish (JoAnn Fabrics) and cut to size for a cheap n easy screen protector.
