Android as it is meant to be

It does not have a 3.5mm audio jack so if that is critical for your phone you'll want to look elsewhere. I've found Bluetooth headphones work perfectly on this device so I've been fine without the jack. The only feature I truly miss is wireless charging. Not having wireless charging built-in is my only critique of this phone. Anyone looking for a high-end Android phone should definitely check out the Pixels. This is Google's answer to the iPhone and really is hands down the best Android experience I have ever had.

First, the Pixel 2 is the only Android phone I know of that was released in 2017 that has a stock, bloatware free copy of Android 11 it's running on. As much as I like Motorola phones, you'll have to buy a much newer and often more costly model to have Android 11. Second, the camera on the Pixel 2 is better than most newer phones in its class, especially in low light. It was updated to use the Pixel 3's Night Sight feature, dramatically improving low light levels without a flash or a tripod. Third, the Type-C quick charging is outstanding! And, even if you don't have a quick charge power adapter, the phone will take advantage of more 2.4A output chargers as well. But please do NOT confuse the Pixel 2 with it's bigger brother, the Pixel 2 XL! The 2 XL also have a small number of problems not found on the standard Pixel 2. Now the bad stuff. No 3.5mm audio jack; requires Type-C adapter. Require professional/skilled battery replacement. This can be more than the price you paid for the phone. But if you're skilled or bold, IFIXIT has a complete kit for around $35 to include the needed tools and adhesives. Beware of cheap aftermarket batteries. Last, as of December 2020, Alphabet/Google no longer supports updates of this phone. Don't see this as a big problem as most Android made in 2019 are no longer supported either.

I need something reliable 24/7. Verizon needs to update their floor demo units with the latest software updates. That being said, I almost did not buy the phone. The Pixel 2 XL was on display at my local Verizon store. I was told it was a demo unit and was never updated. It was clear that it was not updated with the latest system update. Colors looked really bland and dull, also the blue hue/shift was really bad on the demo unit. I mean really bad. I walked away from it and planned on getting a Galaxy S8. The full price for these new phones are expensive so I wanted to take my time and weigh the pro's and con's. I hate returning anything.About 2 weeks later, I read online that google "may have" released a new batch of Pixel 2 XL phones that greatly improved the blue hue/shift. Also found a youtube clip showing this rumor might actually be true. I have no idea if that's true or not, but users reported they had just bought this pixel 2 XL in mid-november and the blue shift vastly improved. Verizon employees could not tell me about this supposed new batch of phones, they had no idea because the supplier does give them that information, about any device in the store.I bought the pixel 2 XL black 128GB and sure enough the Blue hue was nothing like the stores demo unit. The one that I bought was so much better than the store demo unit. My friend as the Galaxy S8 and configuring both phone with identical display settings, the Galaxy blue hue was noticeably worse than than my pixel 2 XL.Verizon: please update your demo units if you want to sell more of these.A method to remove the google search bar from the home screen would be nice. Though this can be achieved by using another launcher like Nova Prime. Also, I hope that google allows users to make the navigation bar at the bottom both transparent and include a "hide nav bar" option as well, without rooting or using some other hack.

Great phone, great camera!
30 June 2019

The one I purchased was listed as "Average" used condition, so I wasn't expecting much but I have been so happy with it so far. Even with some scratches, the phone looks great and works perfectly. Long battery, pretty much lasts a whole day. I'm upgrading from an old Iphone 5 so it's like night and day. Great camera and the phone is really lightweight. It's a good size to hold and fit in my back pocket, not too big like the XL which my brother has. I'm still getting used to a Google based phone but I do like how everything links together, it does get a little tricky when sharing pictures because of the google photos/drive, but it's not too bad. I didn't think I'd use the fingerprint unlock but it's so convenient I love it, I still have a code lock too so others can ... MoreThe one I purchased was listed as "Average" used condition, so I wasn't expecting much but I have been so happy with it so far. The phone looks cool too, I did get a slim snap on case for it because my brother dropped his XL and cracked the upper glass portion on the back which didn't affect the phone but looks bad. My only complaint is the targeted ads and other notifications and suggestions, I've found you can disable them for the most part so it's less annoying. I'd still recommend the phone and am glad I switched from my IPhone.

I hate this phone
26 September 2019

I got this phone almost 2 years ago. When I first got it it was good and fast for a few weeks. The battery already did not last the time they said. It lasted maybe 14 hours for me on just Snapchat Instagram and texting, very minor gameplay like solitaire. It crashed constantly doing simple tasks like websurfing or texting. The system ui constantly crashes. Everything doesn't respond. On top of that this phone constantly restarts itself unprompted. I get a million dropped calls, or I'll call and get no sound at all. I'll answer a call and get no sound then they text me why did I hang up or saying I need to answer. Now, nearing the end of my contract, the battery lasts around 3 hours on a full charge but it's very rare that it gets to a full charge so that's fun. I ... MoreI got this phone almost 2 years ago. Now, nearing the end of my contract, the battery lasts around 3 hours on a full charge but it's very rare that it gets to a full charge so that's fun. I had to buy a battery case to get it to last half a day while avoiding using it the whole time. The case was said to charge this phone twice. It barely makes it through the first charge. This case does charge the phone fast, but any charger, even the one that came with the phone, charges it slow as time moves when your shopping with your mom at a clothing store and you want to leave. Half the time it's plugged in it just does slower. I have to turn it off to charge it which is very pointlessly inconvenient when I need alarms in the morning... Oh and when I first got it the zoom on the camera didn't work for a month but that might have been a software thing that fixed with an update. Just had to add that in. It's an ok phone at first, was one of the better Android's when it first came out. But it goes down hill really really quickly it's definitely not worth it. Or maybe I got a defect in which case RUN ME MY NEW PHONE. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk

Many benefits of the current flagship phones for a third of the price!
25 June 2020

Upgraded from a first generation Motorola X (I don't buy phones often). My immediate thoughts were that the Pixel 2 is much taller and sturdier than what I was used to (though size is on par if not more compact than the current crop of phones). The battery life is on par with the Moto X, while the aluminum and glass casing look and feel more high-end. When it comes to picking up a Pixel from a completely flat surface, I do miss the curved back of the Moto X by comparison the flat Pixel 2 feels a bit like lifting a coin up from a table top, more effort than I'd like. Water resistance works fairly well, but I noticed condensation on the inside of the camera lens after submersion. This made the camera pretty much useless. The fog went away after leaving the sim card tray open and letting the insides air out for a few days. My thoughts on the water resistance it's a cool-to-have when you need it, but don't count on it. Final thoughts: it's a top notch Android phone, It does what I need it to do, and In 2020, you get many of the benefits of a current flagship phone for a third of the price!

Not worth the money. Screen went out w/o warning.
7 July 2023

The number one thing I like about this phone is that it has 64 GB. Other than that, this phone is trash! I only used this phone for 2 weeks before the screen went completely black, and it went completely black without warning. One minute I was using it then the next I couldn't see the screen. I tried all the things that was suggested to do online, even trying to do a hard reset, but to no avail. It's quite frustrating to have a phone that you can hear chiming BUT you can't use it because you can't see the screen. Then on top of that, I was unable to get a refund because I waited too long to contact the seller. So basically I wasted a 100 dollars on a defective phone. Makes me angry! Recommended Phone... Not perfect but great value and performance
16 December 2017

For prospective buyers I figured I'd share my experience over the past 3 weeks of ownership:- Reviews on aesthetics are subjective. Some people are interested in how their phone exterior looks. Others, like me actually prefer a simple, functional, rectangle shape...and prefer performance over looks. This is especially true if you are going to be smart and put a case on it. With a slim case, this phone is nice and compact for pockets.- Stock Android 8 (and 8.1 update that is now out) is nice and fast. The stock launcher (shown in the picture) is annoying in that, while nice and fast, doesn't allow you to hide the Google Search Bar on the bottom nor a Time/Weather widget. FHD is fine, especially for battery life.- There were some review complaints that the battery size isn't enough compared to Samsung and other manufacturers. I get great battery life (so far) and with stock Android (vs. Samsung Touchwiz, LG, or HTC Sense) and a FHD screen, it is probably a wash.- Features: The camera is great, although I wish it had the optical zoom features that the other flagship phones have. The front-facing speakers sound much better than competitors bottom-facing (and sometimes single speaker) speakers. I wish it had wireless charging (like Samsung) but I hear that wireless charging is slow, so the QuickCharge 3 function is nice and fast.- I recommend using a screen protector. Gorilla Glass 5 is made for drops, but there are numerous reports that it isn't great for scratches. Search customer reviews for all the phones this year (including Samsung s8) that use Gorilla Glass 5 and you'll see what I mean. Unfortunately, the Pixel 2 is so new, and with the curved glass edges, most screen protector designs (especially tempered glass) aren't very good...they leave edge "halo" and don't look great...but do provide protection. I recommend buying a cheap one for protection until better designs come out that go on and provide both protection and are barely noticeable.I would definitely recommend this phone for both repeat Android users as well as those that are looking for an alternative to iPhones. My primary recommendation for update would be to add SD card feature in the future and provide a 6GB RAM variant.

The battery is no good.

I LOVE my new phone! However, the battery on the phone I purchased is not great ....I charge my phone AT LEAST twice a day. I usually watch YouTube videos, check my email, and scroll the web an hour or two at a time. I wake up and remove the phone from the charger (charging and fully charged), the battery life is full, and within ten minutes of medium use I've lost ten percent battery life. I will continue using it and within an hour the battery is at 49% ...I only maintain a full charge when the phone is not in use for most of the day (even then it leeches life but not as quickly). Future buyers, BEWARE of the potential battery issue.

love this compact phone

I love this phone. It is smaller than many - a good size for a jacket pocket. There is an understated, unflashy quality about it - but all its functions work very well. One unusual feature is that if you squeeze the edges, the google assistant appears. Voice quality and voice recognition are excellent. The strongest feature of this phone is its remarkable camera - again nothing flashy, just one lens, but all the pictures I have taken look wonderful, lovely colours and very clear details. The google pixels are renowned for their excellent cameras. Battery life is good enough - for me it lasts at least a day - and it can go into battery saving mode. Even though the phone was launched in 2017, it updated easily to Android 11.
