I bought this in the middle of winter, so I’ve only been using it in cold 10f weather and I’ll get 45 minutes out of one battery (not filling non stop, but rather taking all the short clips I could possibly need) I bought extra batteries and bring them with. Again, if you’re taking extremely long 360 degree video footage, you’re going to be sorely disappointed trying to edit and make a usable video. Use this thing for shorter clips and you’ll be happy. That being said, I did have issues with the Quik app not working on my old android phone, the processor simply wasn’t powerful enough. Go pro should be a little more transparent in making sure the consumer understands that your phone needs to be “up to snuff” in order to use this software. That being said, I was long overdue to upgrade my phone, went with an iPhone, and the go pro quik app has worked pretty much flawless for me.Voice commands work great. Even outdoors with wind blowing and my 5” fat bike tires crunching through icy snow, I’m still able to use the voice commands on this camera.Oh yeah, if you don’t want your lenses to get damaged, USE THE PROTECTORS THAT COME WITH IT. That’s a no-brainer. Yet a repeated complaint I read about lenses being scratched. All in all, I love this camera and wish I got it sooner. It adds a whole new dimension when making first person POV video’s for things like mountain biking, or skiing. And if you get it and it’s not what you thought, return it. One day before a trip to Mexico, I was forced to upgrade from a Hero black 5 to this after I loaned my 5 to someone who loaned it to someone else. I was already in the process of doing research towards making a 360 camera, so this just expedited the purchase. This upgrade was much needed and made capturing moments of the trip better. The ability to show my field of view as well as myself without unnecessary wrist motion is underrated. Being able to change the point of focus during edits is amazing. The only cons I have at the moment is I'm not familiar with the app, so it will take some time to perfect my content. Also, as with every GoPro, you will need another battery.

I picked this camera up for more creative shooting using the 360º mode. This camera truly doesn't disappoint. Besides using both cameras for 360 mode, you can use the front and back cameras independently in HERO mode by tapping a specific item on the screen. The coolest thing about this camera is being able to re-compose photos after shooting to get either the shot you want or to toy around with cool effects the 360º camera provides, just be aware that there's some stitching the goes on so you may notice a visible line where the 2 photos / videos line up.I also have the Hero 10 Black and have difficulties figuring out which camera to use a t times since the 10 is a much better camera overall, but obviously does not have the dual camera set-up.The only complaint ... MoreI picked this camera up for more creative shooting using the 360º mode. That being said, if you already have a workflow using Quik because you have other GoPro cameras, the MAX is no different and will work seamlessly using that simple app. An additional benefit is if you have the GoPro subscription, this camera is covered (last I checked) by their replacement policy which means you can use it without fear of damaging it with an active subscription so this alone was well worth selecting this camera over the Insta360 (understanding the Insta360 is both newer and takes a much more modern approach).I love this thing for specific types of activities or for specific types of creative shots. Impressive Performance & Immersive Footage

Whether recording action-packed adventures or scenic landscapes, the Max produces immersive videos that truly transport viewers to the captured moment. The camera's ability to shoot in all directions allows for a unique perspective, making the footage even more engaging and dynamic. One aspect that stood out to me was the user-friendly nature of the GoPro Max. Unlike its predecessor, the Fusion, the Max eliminates the need for dual memory cards, simplifying the recording process and saving time. Additionally, the camera's intuitive software enhances the overall user experience, making it easy to navigate settings and access features.Furthermore, the GoPro Max competes well with its rivals, such as the Insta360 One X[1]. While the shape of the Max may be slightly bulkier compared to some competitor cameras, its performance and capabilities make up for it. The Max's impressive image quality and seamless stitching of 360-degree footage set it apart from the competition. In terms of portability, although the GoPro Max may be slightly less slim than some rival cameras, it remains highly portable and convenient for on-the-go use. Its compact size allows for easy packing, and its durable build ensures it can withstand various environmental conditions. Whether I was hiking, biking, or exploring, the GoPro Max was a reliable companion that never hindered my adventures. To summarize, the GoPro Max is a remarkable 360-degree camera that delivers outstanding performance and captures immersive footage. Its 5.6K resolution, user-friendly features, and seamless stitching make it a standout choice for enthusiasts and professionals alike. While the camera's shape could be slimmer, it should not deter potential buyers from experiencing the incredible capabilities and versatility of the GoPro Max.

It's okay
3 February 2023

I bought this camera exactly 2 years ago. And stopped using it after 3 months. My main purpose was to get an unusual images from my vacations. And soon I found the commercials are not truthful. Yes, the camera is really waterproof, I swam with it in ocean a dozen times. But nobody told me the GoPro Max is useless underwater! Being immersed even in 1 inch into water, it provides blurry unusable pics. The second disappointment is the quality. Even In sunny day, with cleaned lenses it doesn't provide a real 4K resolution. Sorry, it is not even close to GoPro 8 and higher.

Love this! But beware HEVC
21 January 2022

First one I ordered elsewhere had issues operating from battery after the first day so I returned it and ordered from B&H. The 2nd one arrived in totally different packaging which indicates the 1st one was an earlier release. As I also recently discovered with my newly purchased Hero 9 Black, some recording modes unfortunately utilize the wretched HEVC h.265 codec, which is a pain to edit. Many older CPUs and GPUs don't have the hardware decoding ability so it will not work on such systems regardless of the software you install. For instance one of my i7 machines could import and play it but the older i7 couldn't even using the same software. The GoPro App will allow you to work with and export the footage, and Resolve 17, Lightworks Pro, HitFilm Pro (new version) ... MoreFirst one I ordered elsewhere had issues operating from battery after the first day so I returned it and ordered from B&H. At the very least it replaces having 2 regular GoPros facing opposite directions. The quality is good and it comes with extra lens covers. This thing is so much fun I'll likely buy another one when the price drops near discontinue time

Mandatory Buggy Software, Overheats
17 March 2023

The GoPro line suffers from a lack of improvement and innovation in the areas that matter. Like the newer Hero models, this also overheats even in 32*F weather. The software that is required to convert the proprietary 360 video to an editable format is only available through the Windows Store (or Apple equivalent) and contains numerous bugs which make the product unreliable for a video editing workflow. One week the app will be fine and I can render out my video, the next week the GoPro app will render out incomplete files, crash, or outright just not open at all. It's not reliable at all. The latest firmware for the camera is also buggy and will occasionally lock up entirely, requiring removal of the battery. Not great for cold weather

Got this to keep an eye on things while I commute by bike. Worked well all summer. My ride is about 6.5 miles, with 1 mile on roads to the trail, 4.5 miles on the trail, and 1 mile on roads from the trail to the office. No need to record my time on the trail, I'd turn it off once I was on the trail, but once the temperature started getting below 50F the battery wouldn't stay on when I turned it back on at the other end of the trail. Below 40F it doesn't stay warm enough in a pocket to be able to turn on again at the other end of the trail. So now I'm recording the entire ride, which means I'm charging the camera every day and manually clearing the card every other day to be able to record my rides. There's no way this would work for a day skiing unless I brought a ton of extra batteries and kept them stored directly against my body, or got mostly footage from the chair lift. I've also never been able to find a good spot to mount it on a bike - the best place is hanging from my left handlebar drop, but that keeps me from getting Bar Mitts on and off. So, I work with the camera's limits instead of the camera working for me. The 360 view is neat but it just doesn't work well as a commuter camera.

Stay away from Go Pro Max - Horrible support!
1 June 2023

I called trying to replace the camera while still under warranty but was unable to due to time constraints. Now I am just out of warranty, and they said there is nothing they can do to help me. So I'm left with an unusable camera. It’s incredibly frustrating that there is no interest in helping from the go pro support. By far, some of the most frustrating support team I have dealt with. They have no interest in helping and were unwilling to even discuss the possibility of helping me. If I was calling about a 10 year old item I can understand but it is JUST out of warranty. Completely unbelievable that go pro prefers to lose a customer for life rather than replace a bad camera. If you value after purchase support go pro is the WRONG camera to buy.

Videos and panoramas ahead traveling
2 June 2023

I was looking for a camera to do videos and panoramas to compliment my still camera rigs. The GoPro fits in my jacket pocket and is easy to use. Simple menus, 10 hrs recording on a 256gb card. The phone app is easy to use. Buy the charger and second battery. I use GoPro batteries. Charger and batteries are compact and easy to stash in my backpacks pocket. Great quality videos handling all kinds of light and conditions. Panoramas are easy to do and great quality. GoPro subscription includes unlimited cloud storage. I’m am not disappointed with this camera.
