I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out it’s riddle for forty-two and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress,. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries. I found stories I experienced, lessons I learned and forgot, poems, prayers, prescriptions, beliefs about what matters and a whole bunch of bumper stickers. I found a reliable theme, an approach to living that gave me more satisfaction, at the time and still: If you know how, and when, to deal with life’s challenges - how to get relative with the inevitable - you can enjoy a state of success I call ‘catching greenlights ’. So I took a one-way ticket to the desert and wrote what you hold now: an album, a record, a story of my life so far. This is iffy years of my sights and seems, felts and figured-outs, cools and shameful. Graces, truths and beauties of brutality. Getting away with, getting caught and getting wets while trying to dance between the raindrops.

A lively and thought provoking book filled with insights into Matthew's quicksilver and fascinating character. At times humble, others bordering on arrogance, he is always extremely likeable. He shoots from the hip, in a brave and personable way exposes lots about himself. It always feels truthful. There are interesting tales to hear, the book is read by Matthew himself which gives an added dimension of authenticity. An unusual star with deep faith and longlasting love of his wife. Compelling!

I loved this book. It's now my most favorite read of all time. McConaughey is a distinctive and unique narrator, so much so I felt that I knew him personally. His ideas and insight to the drama we call life, is certainly a road map to finding the "Greenlights" and moving along with our own journey. I bought the hardcopy so I could see for myself the bumper stickers!!! Don't miss this book. It's an inspiration...

Green lights, I mean what can I say. Not only is this spook a story of humble begginigs but also a testimony that with every challenge we face in life there's a lesson learned, an opportunity to become better and live a fulfilling life. Green lights teaches us that some hardships aren't hardships at all but more green lights that allow us to shed our current self into a better version of us. It's funny, sometimes sad. But more importantly it can speak to the core of any of us knowing that green lights give us a go. To go further than we could have imagined possible with fear, joy and fun through the lives we live.

This is a great book! I finished it in 3 days and would have been less if I'd had the free time! Language may be a deterrent for some, but it brings ones mind to the important things and the things that are important to an individual. This book shows the author to be a human, both better and worse than others in that moment, but a person that is honest with himself and others. I highly recommend this book for everyone. If the language offends you, try to overcome that because this book is worth it.
I found the author's reflections authentic and compelling. I liked his casual yet informative writing style. His life reflections were transferable if you truly introspect. Good read. I am glad my friend mentioned the book as a good read. Definite greenlight for my future self. Love Livin ( it's a verb)
To me this book was too many one note pages. The entire gist of the book could have been accomplished in two pages. All the rest just basically repeat the same message. I really like the guy, and he is a fantastic actor with a very wide range of talent, writing is not one of them.
It is well written by Matthew McConaughey. He is quite a philosopher. It will surprise the Reader how much of a real person he is. Has his "feet on the ground." A bit difficult to read with all the personal inserts, but worth it. Many readers have enjoyed his tape. I prefer a book "in my hand."
My husband wanted this for Christmas and loved it at first. But the amount of F-bombs and talking about masterbating regularly was just too much. We threw it away. It’s disappointing that he couldn’t have written a book without those things in it. Wasn’t worth the crap scattered throughout.
Matthew McConaughey does not disappoint. I first listened to the audiobook but had to have the hardcopy so I had all the wisdom and insights he shared in print. I love the way he looks at life. The way he has and continues to navigate it. Thankful for him sharing his stories and what he has learned thus far. I got so much inspiration from this book.
really enjoyed this book. I'm 54 and a lazy reader. usually loose interest in a book half way through the first chapter. but I couldn't put this book down. really enjoyed Matthew's story and his wisdom and insight on life. never blames anybody for failures in life. always takes accountability for mistakes and willingness to change himself for the better. Thanks Matthew for sharing your story with us. and will always pray for you and your family. God Bless !
