My kids have loved this fun addition to their building toys. It’s open ended (which I really appreciate) and so far has been used to make buildings, cakes, and a cradle. It’s beautiful as-is and looks great on the self though in this picture it’s a bit darker because we’ve applied a bit of beeswax. We chose the natural wood to mix things up with our pastel blocks. Some folks have mentioned color transfer but so far we have t noticed that.

We haven’t played with them because I bought them for Christmas. However if you look on instagram for Grimm rainbow construction, you will find so many creative ways to play with them such as marble runs, in trusting stacking designs, and pictures. I can’t wait to play with this toy myself! Basically it is toy that I don’t think I will get bored playing with my kids!

We ordered this an the rainbow flats and they're a hit! We've built castles and ball runs and towers... they're as fun to set up as they are to take down, and so easy to tidy up. I love the way they look no matter where they are in the play process!

SUPERIOR quality & timeless, versatile, opened-ended play potential—exactly as you’d expect from Grimm’s and Bella Luna both! As with many of the natural (non-stained) pieces in Grimm’s toy line, I might recommend customers open upon arrival (and perhaps building in extra time before gifting) so as to let the natural oil scent* dissipate. (My sense is that our natural-wood Grimm’s pieces tend to carry a stronger smell than colorized Grimm’s pieces early on simply due not having color glaze present to saturate the wood, thus requiring added oil.)*For peace of mind regarding the scent ours carried (most noticeably at first), Grimm’s is earnestly and thoughtfully transparent about their products. This was one of our first Grimm's toys purchases. We were not disappointed! The quality is great. As soon as we received our package, we ordered more Grimm's toys from Bella Luna. We have used the rainbow pieces in marble/ball runs with other Grimm's toys and my toddler has really enjoyed it. It is a very versatile item that can be used in a lot of different ways. When we're not using the rainbow in marble runs or as tunnels for cars, it looks really nice on the shelf as playroom decor!
I ordered one of these for my nieces and nephews for those times they come over with the parents and are usually so bored they ran riot! I wanted something that would offer hours of open ended play and engagement as they get older. I chose this piece because it's simply beautiful. I can leave it out as a permanent feature on the mantle shelf and it makes a superb ornament when not in use. Now my nieces and nephews ask to come round to play with the rainbow! I've had it for two years, and with children aged between 18 months and 13 years, it's kept all of them going for those visits - not to mention the times I 'play' with it!
This is a wonderful toy and instantly sparked engaged and creative play for my 3 year old. Great for exploring size comparisons, as well as creative building. The only thing I would note is that it smelled very, very strongly of the oil used on the wood. Even though (I believe) it is a natural wood treatment and therefore non toxic, the smell was still very hard to be around for the first day-- if you have smell sensitivities, you will probably want to air it out outside before having it indoors for play. (It diminished after a day or two inside.) Would definitely recommend as a toy, though!
I was expecting to be able to stack these and play with my littles but it is slightly uneven and we’re not able to stack it more than halfway up. By uneven I mean the thickness varies and the arch is angled differently as you go up. We bought the rainbow semi circle and the color transferred to the natural rainbow after playing with them a few times. Which I should have expected! But I didn’t realize how badly wear and tear would show on the natural wood after only a week. My children are 4, 3 and 1. A lot of things they attempt to build fall and the wood gets so scratched and dented by small falls. If you have older children who can build them gently enough to not scratch them together or let them fall I think it’d be a perfect toy! OH MY! This wonderful piece of ingenuity. A wonderful open ended toy that is built solid and looks great. While it was bought as a toy, I plan on using it in the Fall season as a Cornucopia on my table centerpiece.
The things you can do with the rainbow are endless. You can use it for seasonal decoration, part of a mandala play or simply using it as open ended toy. It’s really big, you can build so many things. Probably one of the best Grim’s toys.
