Guitar Interface IK Multimedia iRig UA

The iRig UA breaks new ground as the first digital effects processor specifically engineered to bring professional-quality guitar and bass processing to Android devices. This innovative interface solves the persistent latency issues that have plagued Android music production by incorporating a built-in 32-bit digital signal processor that handles all audio processing externally, rather than relying on the device's operating system. Compatible with any Android smartphone or tablet running version 4.2 or higher with USB OTG support, the iRig UA achieves remarkable near-zero latency performance of just 2ms round-trip. The unit features premium audio specifications including a 24-bit A/D converter with 44.1/48KHz sample rates and a crystal-clear, low-noise preamp housed in an ultra-compact design. It pairs seamlessly with the included AmpliTube UA app, which provides an extensive collection of virtual amplifiers and effects powered directly by the iRig UA's onboard DSP. Beyond effects processing, the iRig UA functions as a professional digital recording interface when connected to Samsung Professional Audio compatible devices or Android 5.0 systems. Additional practical features include an analogue auxiliary input for play-along sessions, headphone output with volume control, multicolour LED status indicator, and plug-and-play connectivity via the included OTG connector. This versatile system finally brings the popular mobile guitar interface technology to Android users across all major manufacturers including Samsung, Sony, Motorola, LG, HTC, and Xiaomi.

It's a good device. Could have better build quality. Also a fuller featured app. It's a port of an outdated ios app. The tones sound really good but I don't know how they compare to the originals because i'm too poor to afford the originals. There's no recording unless you are on android 5.0

To my knowledge this works best with IK Media's Aplitube UA app. There are two or three other apps it is said to work with, but have not tested. I had a cheaper guitar interface and the difference between that and the Amplitube UA is huge. The ease of use and sound quality are so much better. Works flawlessly with the software it is designed for and also other amp simulations. I like that I can use it on either my phone (for ultimate portability) or through my PC. If I had to pick a negative it is the fact that it is made of plastic and has a cheap feel. For a product that does cost a bit it would have been nice to have a little more attention to detail and a more premium feel.

I purchased the iRig UA to practice in my apartment without bothering the neighbors. It's a great little device that works rather well for just that. I've only used it with headphones so I can't say how good it would be for recording or as a preamp. My only complaint is that it takes a while for the Amplitude UA app to launch when I 1st plug in to play. If not for that I'd rate 5*

Poorly designed, did not work with target app and tablet

I could not get this device to work with Yousician on my Samsung Tab S3 (model SM-T820). I was very unhappy with the companion app, AmpliTube UA. Cables stick out on three sides when using it, so the only position it can be used in is lying flat on a table. There is a volume control for the headphone jack but no input gain control for the guitar - a serious issue.

Pricey little Gadget but works if you need it.

I use this obviously with my Android device Samsung Galaxy S4, I like it but unfortunately, it only communicates with The Amplitube UA Software interface it was designed to work with and nothing else so this, in my opinion, makes it a bit pricey just to hear my phone act like an effects processor! One more plus it has beside letting my phone sound like an amp is that it can be connected to my PC via USB to mini USB cable and used with the Amplitube 3 and maybe some other Daw's I have loaded on my computer however for a PC connection there is way better solutions available for that then this expensive little gadget and I only recommend it because it's the only interface for android that I am aware of !

Review of IK Multimedia AmpliTube iRig UA for Android Devices
18 January 2016

Good product, I love the effects that come for free - great fun for minimal spend, an ideal intro to effects and amps for a beginner, and perfect for a bedroom guitarist like me, but uses a lot of battery power on my Samsung Galaxy Tab, and uses the charge socket, so can't charge and use at the same time. Also a bit light and cheap feeling - doesn't feel built to last. Otherwise it does what it says, and a lot of sound for small outlay. Also: it works on a PC as well as phones - not something they advertise - all you need is a phone to USB connector, and find the driver on the IK forums. Great.

Works OK
13 October 2017

I bought the iRig UA so I could use my android phone as a headphone amp for practicing. Also as an audio input for my MacBook Pro. As an audio interface it is great, low noise and sounds good. With my phone, it works, but the Amplitube app that you have to use is pretty bad. The clean sounds are ok but the distortions are thin and unnatural sounding and will give you a headache after a while. It will work OK just for practicing on the go.

I have not been able to pair the app with the product even though it has been registered. I'm in communication with IK Multimedia, As yet I have not found a successful answer. I will have to come and see you at your premises in Coventry in the hope that you can solve this problem. I am not happy with this situation.
