Compact but roomy, and great value!

Great value! Excellent amount of space for a small-size refrigerator. We bought this for the basement and needed no extra frills--water hook-up, ice machine, water or ice dispensers. Just a low cost, efficient refrigerator that doesn't take up a lot of space, yet has plenty of room for frozen foods, beer and wine and produce there's no room for in the kitchen refrigerator. Happy so far! Only drawback (minor) is that the shelves on the door precludes putting stuff too far forward inside the fridge itself. The shelves "hit" the stuff and prevent the door from closing.

Don’t do it!

We purchased this for our little pool house that did not have air. All we had in it was beer, sodas, water, Gatorade, etc. everything was exploding or frozen. If we turned it down one number on the dial it wasn’t cold enough. We thought it was due to the temps outside but that isn’t the case. Now we have it in our garage against an interior wall. It’s still doing the same thing but now my top shelf becomes a sheet of ice. We cleaned it out and started using it for our chicken and duck eggs but now it’s freezing and cracking all my eggs. It’s really only good for the freezer. But we only put popcicles and ice in it because we are worried it won’t freeze or freezer burn everything.

Am stuck with this fridge because it fits exactly in my narrow kitchen space. It does not hold a constant temperature, but appears to cycle between 29° and 42°, which is very disconcerting to me. At one point the milk was freezing, so I dialed up the temp, but I don’t know how to assess if food is being kept cold enough. I miss the 3 door shelves my old fridge had - now there are only 2. Furthermore, they are very deep so they take away from internal fridge space. Same with the freezer. I now need to put my ice trays sideways which is much less efficient.

Door Doesn't Stay Closed
26 March 2024

The door doesn't close. You have to actively push it all the way closed-- unlike any other refrigerator I've had in my 55 years of life. I hate this thing so much and I hate that I'm stuck with it for so many years. You can be sure I'll never buy another Haier product because this is an obvious design flaw.Yes, I've tried having absolutely nothing in the door, checking to make sure nothing is blocking the door or seal.... no dice. The company was probably too cheap to spend an additional fifty cents to put better magnets in the door..... now I'll have 5-10 years of spoiled food to show for their cheapness. Thanks Haier.

Elegant and compact
8 July 2020

I needed a smaller format refrigerator to fit the limited kitchen space available and I wanted something that was NOT just a boring white box. This Haier fits the bill. It is elegant and suited to just about any kitchen's color scheme. It has a nice sanded-look steel front and black sides and top, enough storage space for about a week's groceries, and pleasant LED lighting in the main section. All the shelves and the crisper drawer are clear plastic, making it easier to see and find everything. There is no light in the freezer section. There's also no ice maker and the space is not quite deep enough to accommodate regular-sized ice cube trays head first, they need to go in sideways. The fridge cools very efficiently, the lowest setting (1) seems to be more than ... MoreI needed a smaller format refrigerator to fit the limited kitchen space available and I wanted something that was NOT just a boring white box. There's also no ice maker and the space is not quite deep enough to accommodate regular-sized ice cube trays head first, they need to go in sideways. The fridge cools very efficiently, the lowest setting (1) seems to be more than enough to chill the relatively small space adequately. (This may be a benefit on power usage, but there hasn't been enough time yet to see this reflected in a bill!) The freezer has a separate control for temperature as well. The motor hums at a higher than usual frequency than the refrigerators I'm used to, but it is not loud or "grinding." Both sides - especially in the middle - become decidedly warm-to-hot to the touch when the motor is running! The bottom of the lower door is about two inches or so from the floor and if you're not watching, toes can get caught under it as it swings open. The doors can be mounted to hinge on either side. The top of the lower door and top and bottom of the freezer compartment door have small holes where the hinge isn't in use and there are no "plugs" filling these holes. The unused hinge connection on the top of the body of the fridge, however, does have a rubber cover. Overall, for the size and considering the price bracket, this is an excellent and definitely elegant refrigerator for a smaller space and/or smaller storage needs.

Great replacement for Gas fridge in RV
10 October 2023

The gas absorption refrigerator in my 2007 Winnebago Access 29T finally gave out and I was not keen on another gas absorption being they start at $1500 and I feel they never really get cold enough. This Haier is larger so it took a little wood working and was a tight squeeze but it fit into the existing (modified) space. I also added cooling fans to help suck in cool air and blow out the hot air in the top of the fridge enclosure. They turn on whenever a temp probe mounted near the compressor reaches 35 degrees C (95 F). I also removed the standing drain pan from on top of the compressor for the freezer defrost and diverted the water via a tube outside of the RV. And of course rigged up some basic door latches with 3M double sided tape so the doors don't come flying ... MoreThe gas absorption refrigerator in my 2007 Winnebago Access 29T finally gave out and I was not keen on another gas absorption being they start at $1500 and I feel they never really get cold enough. We no longer have to also carry a cooler in the shower to hold drinks and continually fill it with ice on multi-week trips. But the best part is this fridge draws minimal power allowing us to boondock for days (solar setup recharging 200ah lithium battery) without worrying if we have enough power left to run the fridge.Over all I am very happy. Fridge is larger, operates colder and was over $1000 cheaper than a replacement gas absorption fridge.Have completed 3 cross country trips now since its install in July 2022 and still running strong today in Oct 2023.

Nice tidy fridge
11 April 2024

I bought 2 of these for my small kitchen and the basement. The fridge dimensions were about the same as the 2 they replaced and while the cubic ft was smaller on the Haier there appears to be a bit more room for food.I reversed the doors on one of them. While the process was pretty straightforward it took some tweaking to get the proper alignment so the doors opened/closed and sealed correctly. Once completed, I noticed the main door now struck the light switch as the door is closed. This makes a noise every time. The freezer door sits on a plastic device over the hinge. I’ll probably cut that plastic hook off if it doesn’t break off on its own.The LED interior light is very dim as many other reviewers have pointed out. The compressor noise is about average so you can expect to hear it when it’s running. Overall, it’s a good looking little fridge with plenty of space for a single person or small family. If you plan on reversing the doors don’t expect the same smooth functions compared to unreversed doors.

Refrigerator does not cool properly
6 October 2023

I purchased this refrigerator for a tenant last month, September 10th, and it was delivered September 15th. After a few days, my tenant informed me it wasn’t cooling sufficiently well. He changed the setting to make it colder and he said that adjustment made no improvement and that it started making a clanging noise. I contacted service and a technician arrived today. The technician informed me that by adjusting the temperature to a colder setting, it caused ice to buildup and accumulate around the cooling mechanism in the freezer which soon interfered with the fan’s operation, thus creating the clanging noise. The technician simply thawed the accumulated ice with a heater and said not to keep the setting above “low.” Otherwise, it closes the damper which causes ... MoreI purchased this refrigerator for a tenant last month, September 10th, and it was delivered September 15th. I haven’t determined which. In any event, it’s not a suitable performance for a refrigerator. You can’t even keep ice cream frozen.PC Richard won’t take the refrigerator back, so I’ve been informed, and the service people think it works flawlessly, and blamed it on my tenant.Clearly, I made a poor decision on purchasing this refrigerator. Apparently, I should have stayed with Avanti, which at least lasted more than 10 years, prior to its demise. I wouldn’t suggest purchasing this Haier product.

SUCCESSFUL REFRIGERATION DEPENDS ON GOOD AIRFLOW

Greetings All,I had to buy this little gem in a pinch since the old one died a glorious death, while I await on the new standard size frig to be delivered. I'm going to provide some not so obvious tips that may assist someone in the successful launch of this nice little frig.First and foremost this is a basic refrigerator/freezer, think old school with no bells and whistles. Next I placed an analog thermostat in the freezer and refrigerator so that I can dial in and monitor my temps in both individual compartments. If you don't do this, it's going to be a very frustrating guessing game for you. The thermostat control is in the frig, the manual airflow control is in the freezer. I've noticed if I dial in the refrigerators thermostat to 2.5 and set the manual freezer airflow control just under the 'mid' mark that I can maintain a frig temp of 38/40 degrees and freezer temps of 0/15 degrees. With the use of both frig and freezer thermometers, you'll be able to dial in your temps right where you want them to be. I leave both of my thermometers in there to be able to monitor temps at a glance. Finally and probably most important is proper airflow in both compartments. I can not stress this enough. If you pack both compartments full of food and do not allow for proper airflow, I promise you will fail and worst case scenario you may overheat your compressor and blow it's thermal switch from making it work so hard. I'm stating the obvious here, but do not block the freezer fan or any of the associated vents in both compartments, give your food in both compartments room to breath. Do not pack this little frig with the same amount of food as you would a standard size frig, it wasn't designed for that. Remember "A good airflow pattern is critical to the success of any refrigerated space design. A poor airflow pattern will result in poor air cooler and system performance even though the equipment may be adequately sized for the cooling load.".I hope this intel helps you launch you new frig with great success. As far as build quality, parts, and customer service goes I can not speak on those matters as my little frig has only been in service for a few successful weeks. I'm confident though following the above information that this little gem should last several years without issue. Good luck and Stay Well!!

This is definitely a huge upgrade from our Avanti fridge that was 20 years old and was getting loud and leaked water on our wooden kitchen floor. We will definitely miss the simple ice cube trays that you could twist and turn to get a new fresh ice cubes because this fridge has none of that and it doesn’t come with any egg holder section either, but that’s OK. We have our own. If there’s an If there’s anything that we would’ve appreciated even more it might’ve been more shelves in the refrigerator door itself, but the shelving inside of the fridge makes up for it. up and down to make space for bottles. We ordered this fridge with the door swinging open to the left, because that makes more sense in our kitchen. Definitely something to think about. You can have factory/store attach doors to open in two different directions. I thought that was pretty cool. Speaking of cool: fridge got up to the perfect cooling temp in no time after it was installed. Just check out the pictures. I think that will tell you everything!
