Hario V60 Fretta Ice Coffee Maker

Its unique design combines plastic V60-02 dripper with ice holder and an elegant glass carafe with a capacity of 700ml. Without the ice holder you can use it to brew hot coffee. The set includes 10 paper filters. The method to prepare iced coffee is extremely simple.

A gentler brew than the Toddy but lovely.

My first go was insipid but by using a finer grind and wetting half the grounds before adding the rest of the grounds and then leaving on the bench rather than putting in the fridge I got back a little of the intensity that I wanted. by researching on the internet I found I am not alone in wanting to get a little more from the Mizudashi by changing up the way you brew. Much neater than the Toddy.

Cafe-quality cold brew: the Hario delivers!

The Hario is my third cold brew coffee maker and is without doubt the best and simplest, not to mention a fraction of the cost of the other two. The recommended 80g of medium-ground coffee to one litre of water works perfectly. Best results are achieved by adding water gradually: damp the grounds initially, then continue to add water in increments that allow the full flavour of the coffee to develop - approx.200ml at a time. Cover with the lid supplied, refrigerate for 12 hours and you will have a great cold brew. Choice of coffee is important; you need a milder, sweeter roast than you would use in an espresso machine or plunger. Cleaning the Hario is a breeze and the coffee grounds are great for your garden or compost bin.

Delicious iced brew!

I bought one of these for my Dad for Father’s Day - when visiting my parents recently, he made up a batch. It was super easy to do. It may depend on the beans used, however I had mine black and I truly wasn’t expecting the brew to be so smooth and delicious. Will soon buy another for myself, as I think this will be my preferred way of drinking coffee this summer!

Excellent coffee!
3 December 2018

The coffee that comes out of here is great! Nice and smooth and flavoursome, without being bitter. I feel it doesn't have much caffeine but that's just the way it goes with cold brew I think. The unit itself is great, good quality construction. The only minor annoyance is that it takes a little while to stand there and slowing pour all the water through, but that can't really be helped. I'd recommend a slightly finer grind for your coffee that the coarse that's recommended if you want a stronger flavour.

Great addition to the house
25 January 2018

This is a great alternative to making iced coffee/lattes at home. Definitely doesn’t taste as bitter, (using the exact same coffee beans as in my Jura) as freshly made espresso brew. Instantly cold straight from the fridge, no complaints that the coffee is still warm or watered down coffee with the overload of ice to cool it. Fabulous addition to the making of espresso martini’s too✊🏼

Interesting idea, poor execution

I'm completely in love with cold brew and have been slaving away for years doing the old immersion technique and then filtering into bottles. I love cold brew but it gets super tedious over time - so I thought this would cut down time. The two stars are because the cleanup and time saving is great and it doesn't look too bad either! The main issues I found were that the final cold brew after many tries at different ratios of coffee or water and different times would be rather dilute. It would taste like a 1:14 ratio instead of an attempted 1:10 or 1:8. Therefore if you like fairly light cold brew then this is for you! Plenty of people do! I like it reasonably strong but not quite a concentrate. Personal taste. I think the basket doesn't allow full immersion of the grains you see.I also found that the jug doesn't seal so that may or may not impact the brewing process who knows.I'm sure this is great for tea though!!No regrets buying this but it doesn't make he coffee I like. I use a different devise now that uses more full immersion.

So bloody simple and SO GOOD

I had NO IDEA how much better cold extracted coffee was for my system.I spent hundreds of dollars on multiple coffee apparatus, months learning the 'finer techniques' to their usage, and still was left wanting a better taste or coffee experience.Fill it, fridge it, leave it for 24hrs and BAM. A litre of delicious caffeine hit with NO JITTERS. I have missed enjoying my daily coffee due to increased anxitey, migraines, poor circulation, fatigue, trouble sleeping, bitter after taste etc.I have been having at least two drinks made from this solution per day. I feel amazing and can't believe the difference.Try with honey mixed with hot water, then use ice to cool it before pouring on the coffee mixture for a sweet delight! Or a scoop of vanilla Icecream. japanese method better
29 June 2022

the fretta seems to require a certain size ice cube to fill the shaft snugly. as it is, the ice cubes i've been using don't sufficiently chill the coffee. you need to add cubes to the drink, which kind of defeats the purpose of not watering things down. i have better luck with the japanese pour over method.
