The MX5 is the third modeler/multi effects processor that I have used for recording and playing live. In my opinion the overall sound quality is a bit underwhelming. For me the MX5 is exactly what I have been looking for many years. Intuitive, compact and priced right. I owned the original Line 6 Pod, the Boss GT-10 and recently the Line 6 Pod Go. The frustrating thing for me with the Boss GT-10 and Line 6 Pod Go is if I did not consistently use them I would forget how to go in and tweak the sounds. Sometimes I don't play for weeks even months and when I got the urge to play again I had to fiddle or re read the manual on how to make certain adjustments. I ended up spending more time on the darn effects unit than actually playing the guitar. With the MX5 it's very intuitive via the touch screen to just make changes or create a new rig. I needed something that I could use with headphones for practice, and wanted rich tube-like clean and overdriven sounds. I compared nearly every multi-effects pedal with amp modeling on the market, and decided to go with the Headrush MX5 for its user community, features (that keep getting better with firmware version updates), portability, and overall sound. I have no regrets, but do wish the touch interface was not so cramped, where it's hard to select a list item, or they add a computer app to manage rigs so that you don't need to use the small touch screen. I would recommend this item to anyone looking for a modeler with built in effects. Bruce and the team at Carle Place Sam Ash are very helpful and made the purchasing experience great.

I bought the Headrush MX5 for doing gigs with both an acoustic and electric guitar without lugging an amp. I'm still learning to drive it. It sounds excellent with the Gretsch electric. Acoustics with piezo pickups don't work so well straight into a guitar input due to impedance mismatch. I run my acoustics through a K&K PureXLR Preamp connected to an external Reamp box and it sounds great. Even better with pro IRs matching my acoustics - add EQ, compression, and effects to suit and save as a rig. By adding an FX Return at the front of a rig's signal path, I can plug my acoustic into it, leaving the guitar input for the Gretsch, and seamlessly swap between them. Very versatile.

Being that mostly everything is done on the touch screen, if you have some experience on a smart phone or tablet you will be off and running in moments. I'm not sure how durable it would be to gig with compared to like a Boss multi effects.

First off, huge thanks to John for processing my order and getting my MX5 to me overnight to the Big Island of Hawaii. On first inspection, the mx5 is well made. The switchgear, treadle, knobs, and chassis have feel of quality and weight without being bulky. Just under a foot long. This fits perfectly in a small case or a backpack. The touch screen works quite well for setting up scenes, rigs and dialing in pedals and speakers etc. my big fingers even worked well with this screen. I have not picked up my guitar this much in a long time it has Inspired me to play more and I have had a lot of fun out of it you won’t be dissapointed. However, after about 3 months of owning it, one day it started freezing up and the screen started going black. The whole device would become unresponsive until unplugged, and it would happen every time. I did factory resets, and everything else one could do from home, but headrush agreed I needed a replacement. However, it took headrush a week to respond to my customer service request email, and they have had my device for over 2 weeks now and still haven't shipped the replacement. However, it took headrush a week to respond to my customer service request email, and they have had my device for over 2 weeks now and still haven't shipped the replacement. I have gone about a month without the device at this point, though admittedly about 10 days of that was my fault for waiting to grab a shipping box from storage, but I shouldn't have had to mail it back in the first place. Headrush has a replacement period of 2-4 weeks, which is just wild to me. It didn't take me 2-4 weeks to pay for the product, so why should I have to wait that long for a replacement? I'm genuinely conflicted because I LOVED this pedal, but at this point it's hard for me to recommend the product. Headrush has been very professional and courteous, but I want the device I paid for.
