I really don't get why so many people are complaining about the price, I was buying the Kamado Joe socalled Big CHUNKS and it was seriously more than half of the bag of small chips and shards and it was costing me $59 a bag and also only 9KG net weight, was lucky to get 5 cooks out of it, then I tried these and let me tell you what a HUGE difference, not only does the smoke burn blue it gets my ambient temperature on the DOME up to speed in less then 10 minutes as opposed waiting for 30 minutes, and the smell and the taste just from the charcoal alone brings back memories (Charcoal Chicken and roasts on the Joetisserie) and to bring it home it's a 20KG bag for $54 and I only use two handfuls for a 5 hour burn! I could ramble on a lot more but do yourself a favour ... MoreI really don't get why so many people are complaining about the price, I was buying the Kamado Joe socalled Big CHUNKS and it was seriously more than half of the bag of small chips and shards and it was costing me $59 a bag and also only 9KG net weight, was lucky to get 5 cooks out of it, then I tried these and let me tell you what a HUGE difference, not only does the smoke burn blue it gets my ambient temperature on the DOME up to speed in less then 10 minutes as opposed waiting for 30 minutes, and the smell and the taste just from the charcoal alone brings back memories (Charcoal Chicken and roasts on the Joetisserie) and to bring it home it's a 20KG bag for $54 and I only use two handfuls for a 5 hour burn! I actually bought these to fill up an outdoor 1m diameter fire pit, with split logs on top. Wasn’t expecting much success. Worked better than I thought it would. Lasted about four hours without any intervention or addition of more logs. The bag shown on this website is actually really massive. About the size of a wheelbarrow. When handling the bag you will get coal dust on your hands and clothes, so don’t wear your best white shirt. To fill a fire pit for four hours I used about a quarter of the bag.The heat gets so hot that it will give off a noticeable blue flame. So make sure the pit, BBQ or whatever can handle heat enough to almost melt metal. It’s supposed to give pff no smoke. Yep, 100% right, at no point from start to finish was there any smoke. ... MoreI actually bought these to fill up an outdoor 1m diameter fire pit, with split logs on top. there are previous comments from 12 months ago indicating that the price jumped from 42 to $54. Now its Jumped again from $54 to $69. I'm not sure how they justify this?? Its a good product but plenty of better options available at this price. 1 star for price gouging.....

It doesn't burn hot enough or long enough. This product was ok @$45 for a slow cook. But for searing I have been unable to reach the same temps as I have using other hardwood brands from BBQ stores. Add to that, at higher temps it is spent quickly. For what is now the most expensive charcoal on the market it's far from good enough.
This charcoal is leagues above other lump wood charcoal sold at Bunnings. It is a commercial quality, chemical free, low smoke, low ash, high heat, complete burning charcoal that ignites easily and reaches temperature quickly. It is manufactured from hardwood Vitex, aka New Guinea Teak, and I believe it is sourced from sustainable, renewable operations in the Solomon Islands. As it burns so clean, it imparts a medium smoky flavour on its own, but I have found it works really well with smoking wood / chips, allowing their flavour to shine. Excellent for high heat searing, but stable for low and slow, but use less than you think you need to keep the heat down. I was really impressed with this.
Great product, been using for about 4 years now. I brought 5x 20kg bags before the price jumped up to 118 per bag. Have 2 bags left, but at this price I will not be using them again. Shipping Container prices have come down a lot, but now its just a joke. Get it together Bunnings!!!
Once more unto the grill dear friends, once more;Or close the vents on our dreamless smokers.Beadless there's nothing so becomes a manAs modest stillness and humility:But when the scent of smokes blows in our nostrilsThen imitate the action of the tiger;Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd smoked cravings
Price gouging at it's peak!!!Bunnings and Heat beads should be disgusted with these prices for Charcoal.A product that sells for less than $1/kg across the world is now selling $3.50/kg.With these prices bbq is dead!!
Ok quality, however, the price is not worth it. When it was $40 per 20Kg bag, it was good value. At $60 per 20Kg bag definitely not worth it. There are other brands on par with its quality but much better value for money. Taking my business somewhere else.
Like so many other reviewers here, this used to be my go to lump wood charcoal but the pricing is now ridiculous i.e. it's doubled in price in a couple of years. There are much better options available now that are both better quality and value e.g. try alternative retailers that also sell BBQs, so many of them that you could say they have them galore and you'll get Pro Smoking results from the alternatives.
