I spent a lot of time deliberating whether to spend this much money on a folding chair and then which chair to buy. I’m glad I chose to buy this chair it completely changed my last camping experience making it an absolute joy to be able to relax after a trek to a camp on Dartmoor. This is clearly a quality product and I suspect the cheaper copies willnot be anywhere near as sturdy or reliable. I’m 15+ stone and 6ft. It more than comfortably manages my weight and size. I would definitely recommend anyone to buy one of the chairs. I haven’t had any issues with sinking into the ground but will probably get a groundsheet for use on the beach. If your thinking of buying one - Buy one. You won’t regret it.

Better to try out chairs in person and not buy online.

I needed a camp chair that was relatively lightweight and comfortable for for my back. I have low back pain and find it difficult to find a suitable comfortable camp chair.I like this chair moderately well. It is not perfect for my back but better than what i previously had.In purchasing chairs I realize it is best to try out a selection and I was unable to do this because of Covid and lack of inventory in stores. It slopes back too much and a more upright chair would be more suitable. It is very packable and moderately light weight, but not for backpacking.

You'll find a lot of fan-boy-ish sounding reviews on Helinox's site, but there's a reason for it: their products are fantastic. After a very uncomfortable series of days on beaches while my family splashed around in various bodies of water this summer, I did a lot of research looking for light-weight, easily-packable chairs and ended up picking up the Chair One as a compromise between size, weight, price, and expected longevity (the fact they offer a five year warranty is pretty telling, in a market where you're lucky to get one). The fact that Helinox chairs can be converted into rocking chairs was also a big reason I tired Helinox instead of some other brand (I ordered the rocking attachments alongside the chair).I set up the chair, sat in it at home, and have ... MoreYou'll find a lot of fan-boy-ish sounding reviews on Helinox's site, but there's a reason for it: their products are fantastic. The fact that Helinox chairs can be converted into rocking chairs was also a big reason I tired Helinox instead of some other brand (I ordered the rocking attachments alongside the chair).I set up the chair, sat in it at home, and have since been using it every chance I get (need another seat in the living room? I'll go grab my Chair One! Going to the lake? Chair One! Off for a last hurrah at my family's property near a beach but without any real amenities? Chair One!). Here's the good and the "I can live with it" (there's no real bad):I am 6' 2" and a complete beanpole (145lbs on a good day). This makes it very difficult for me to find furniture that is comfortable, but the Chair One somehow manages. When sitting in it, the back of the chair comes up to just above the bottom of my shoulder blades (no cutting into my should blades! Which of course protrude). It sits a little low compared to less-portable chairs, but my knees aren't up around my chin, either. It's a nice interim height for me, honestly, and doesn't feel awkward to get in or out of (but I'm also still in my 30s; might age out of it). The fabric doesn't cut into my legs, but it *does* cut into my arms a little if I stick them out over the sides of the chair. I suspect this is a "me" problem, though; I can tuck them inside the fabric right up against my body if I'm feeling chilly, and I suspect if I had a few extra pounds and were a little wider, it would be a non-issue because the sides of the chair would more or less conform to my sides. The back support is surprisingly good for such a simple chair; I can sit it in for long periods at a time without discomfort.Assembling the chair takes a little bit of strength, but I expect this to get easier over time as the fabric relaxes a bit, and it's still ridiculously fast to setup and teardown. This is an "I can live with it" aspect to the chair, because it stores so perfectly in the included bag that I just don't care. The rockers are a mixed bag. On the plus side, if you're on even ground (or inside) they're wonderful. Easy to rock, and I never feel like I'm going to fall over backwards. The one downside is that with my length of leg, I tend to not have a lot of rocking available, because the chair rolls pretty far back when I sit down. They also prevent the chair's legs from sinking into less-even ground (although I haven't tried the chair on sand, so I don't know how much that will matter). However, the trouble when using the rockers on something like uneven grass is that they aren't connected to one another in any way. So as you rock back, if one rocker hits a clump of dirt or rock or something, it will stop moving while its partner continues, causing the whole chair to flex. I don't think this is causing any damage or anything, but it's not a very comfortable rocking experience. The real downside to the rockers is that they're so much longer than the chair's packed length, that you have to keep them in a separate bag (which is very easy to misplace). I've been stuffing it into the chair's bag, which I then hang on the front of the chair frame to keep it out of the way, which is fine when the chair is setup, but they're still a pain to wrangle when carrying it around. I'm on the fence about whether I should acquire rockers for my future Helinox chair purchases.Which leads me to probably the biggest endorsement for the Helinox Chair One: after using Chair One for just a few short weeks, I'm already entirely happy to throw a few hundred more dollars Helinox's way because I'm so happy with Chair One. I want the Vibram ball feet as an alternative to the rockers (if I'm lucky, they'll fit in the original chair bag, and should work a lot better on uneven ground). I want one of the high backed chairs "for my wife" (I'll totally be stealing it), since the one real downside of Chair One is that you can't really lean back and relax in it (it's comfortable, but better for actively rocking or similar; certainly can't nap in it). I'm eyeing their tables, their camping cots (even though I basically never go camping--but hey, guests could use it!), their sunshade, you name it.Chair One likely isn't for everyone, but if you have a need for a comfortable, light-weight and easy to pack, versatile chair I really don't think you can do better. Just watch out: it may be the gateway drug to an entire fleet of stupidly comfortable and well-made "camp" furniture. It really is that good.

Chair One--or Chair Zero
28 February 2022

Actually I ordered this by mistake and then ordered the Chair Zero. But I like both a lot. You can set this up in the dark -- no problem. I do get the leg sinking on soft ground like sand or peat. But I think that's soluble. Especially if it can be solved for a couple of bucks. So the Chair Zero is the packer and the chair one is my local throw in the car chair. I do think they are more expensive than they need to be but they invented it so I guess they can get the money back for development costs.

Far, far less than what I expected.

I have previously used Helinox products that friends have (Chair One XL and Sunset) and I was absolutely blown away with what a quality and comfortable product they produce. I've used theirs on many camping trips, adventures, and even just lounging around in the yard around the fire pit. So I had absolutely no problem spending over $300 on a full Helinox set of my own. When I received my set (Chair One and Tactile Table) I was very pleased with the finish. They seemed to function just fine in the living room. I recently took them out for the first time on a trip to Moab and they were pretty disappointing out in the field. When I received my set (Chair One and Tactile Table) I was very pleased with the finish. They seemed to function just fine in the living room. I recently took them out for the first time on a trip to Moab and they were pretty disappointing out in the field. The two end assemblies that secure all the poles are not fixed and place to the center pole and are free to float back and forth. This allows the chair to flex in an undesirable manner when you try to twist you body even slightly to the left or right. On leg will lift off the ground causing the chair to want to fall over. 3 people, myself included, fell over while using these chairs. It's pretty embarrassing considering people know what I paid for these chairs. I haven't noticed this free pivot design in any of their other products I've used. I even went back and checked with others around camp. While they were all different models, none had this free pivot design flaw. Nowhere on the website does it talk about the difference in how the poles mount up or whether they free pivot or not. I've used the ball feet before on other products, but I don't think even that would stabilize these chairs. I've sat other Helinox chairs in rocky creeks with no issues, yet these chairs can't sit in a hard packed dirt camp ground? Honestly, my $20 Walmart knock off is more stable than this thing. I just don't understand how this chair can be so different than ALL their other products I've experienced with no explanation or description on their website. The more I think about it, the more upset I get, and the more I realize I really don't like these chairs. This truly is a major disappointment and I'll probably end up getting rid of them and finding something else.

Great Bike and boating chair
25 July 2022

Ease and portability of this chair cannot be beat. We are comfortable in this chair but cannot imagine a larger size person being very comfortable. (I am 128lbs and my husband 170lbs). Terrific for heading to the beach on bikes which is why we purchased. Great light weight but need to be careful in a windy day. We also use these chairs on our boat-great for hanging on the bow or swim platform.

Light, comfy, durable AND its tie-dye? a win
22 January 2022

Super comfy chair, and for some reason cheaper than the smaller festival recliner! not only was this amazing chair on sale in the hard-to-find tie dye colourway, but Valhalla shipped super quickly in a repurposed supplier box which I really appreciate. While I love it for leightweight comfort @ backpacking/beach/picnics, if you want something where your knees are at a 90 degree angle and more upright back (and are average height+) this might be too low to the ground for you. my 6'2'' partner isn't as hyped on this chair, probably for that reason.

It is light weight yet strong. Easy to carry. Easy to fold up and put together. The material is easy to clean and comfortable. My favorite chair. I bought two more for my young grandkids so they can carry their own chair. They just need help folding and unfolding it.

MY BUM LOVES THIS CHAIR
22 August 2021

I’ve bought two chairs and have had them for a few weeks now and it’s really living up to its standards! I was between the chair zero and this one and I’m glad I picked this one! It’s just the right amount of weight (2lbs) for the amount of security my bum gets! I don’t feel like the chair is gonna break when sitting in it (thanks to the 200 pound weight limit) and it’s surprisingly so comfortable! None of the bars go into my back at all! My legs/knees also feel comfortable when sitting in it so it’s just the right amount of height on this chair! The chair is so compact and takes up barely any room so I take it with me everywhere in the car (because ya never know when a great sunset or bonfire opportunity will pop up!) Anyways, I love this chair and can’t stop ... MoreI’ve bought two chairs and have had them for a few weeks now and it’s really living up to its standards! Returns are costly!!
24 February 2023

We are big fans of our taller back helinox chairs, but this just was not comfortable/lounge worthy. Was looking for a good, storable chair for van life.** returns through helinox are not easy!! Costs 45 dollars at UPS to ship back to helinox, or priority mail via USPS 22 dollars. Would have ordered elsewhere if I knew about their lack of covered returns.
