If you like to sit in a somewhat relaxed back position with your legs "up" out in front of you I don't think there is a better ultralight or even light weight chair out there. This chair is seriously light and I love mine and take it all over the place. I'm really happy to see this one back on the shelves at MEC, its a unique and excellent product. The lack of real legs that app the other chairs in the lightweight chair world have does away with a serious weak point they have, and on top, this chair is way less prone to sinking in soft ground. The low height lets you sit comfortably inside even small backpacking tents, use the ground as your side table. Personal preference there. There are two downsides that I feel need to be mentioned. 1) something I'm really disappointed with Helinox for is they don't seem to supply spare frame parts, even to dealers, so if you crack one of the frame connectors or bend a pole you need to buy a new chair (or MEC might take it back). I've seen these break. 2) I would also say it needs to be treated as what it actually is, an ultralight chair. It can get jammed up with sand and it can be a little fragile - this is not a chair to hand your young kids to climb all over, or an adult to lean on the wrong way. The frame is not made to be loaded off angle and it will break if you do.

Helinox Ground Chair..amazing gear! My wife and I have owned and used ours for quite a while now. These chairs have been from mountains to beaches, back again and again with stops everywhere along the way. Camping, hiking, biking, paddling, beach bumming and festival jamming...these chairs continue to impress. I'm over 6 ft and weigh around 200 lbs, the ground chair never fails to pad my tail from bottoming out in the dirt (unless chair is sunk in loose/deep sand). Only issue: SAND (fine beach/river sand and salt water) and the chair don't mix to well and can make disassembly difficult when sand/salt wedges itself between the poles/inserts-super easy fix, I just throw down a towel/blanket at the beach/shore and set the chair on it...as for sitting in the water or ...Ā MoreHelinox Ground Chair..amazing gear! I imagine you could do it but it seems to scratch the finish off the poles (when disassembling) and I'm concerned about the long term durability of the shock cord after repeated exposure to salt water also. However, that may not be an issue or maybe use a spray lube? I have had the chairs sitting in the sand and waves many times-I just washed them off well with fresh water and left them out to dry...these days I try to just keep them out of the salt water/beach sand for added protection and longevity. Maybe I'm over cautious...only other issue (to some others, not myself) they are low. You have sore aching knees/hip this may not be the chair for you. So aside from my self imposed restriction of not putting my chair directly in salt water or loose beach sand I enjoy this chair and take it everywhere. Just received the table not long ago. Used it several times already and am very pleased! Had to improvise some anchors for it during a beach trip that took place during some tropical storm winds but just ordered the mesh storage bag that attaches to table so thinking it may serve multiple purposes and weight/anchor being one. Great gear!

Generally love this item. I take it on kayak excursions and it packs well and weighs next to nothing. The chair is mostly comfortable but as an older person I find it quite a challenge to get in and out of, unless I can put it on the edge of the ground where I can have my legs below the chair (more like a regular chair) as opposed to having legs out in front of me. My only disappointment is during use, one of the back support rods worked itās way half way out and the the foot/tube hub cracked. These are non-replaceable items.

I fricken love this chair. Just took it out for its first camping trip and I found I often chose it over my hammock simply because it was easier to move into the shade. Iām amazed at how comfortable it is for such a small, lightweight thing. I was able to both relax back with a book and sit forward to cook and eat comfortably. The materials are super solid. Sometimes Iām like ācan this little thing seriously be that sturdy?ā But then I look at the thickly padded and reinforced pole pockets, where Iād expect the most tension and wear to appear over time, and if theyāre any sign of the quality of construction, Iām confident it will hold up (pun intended). At first I was unsure about buying this model because I couldnāt tell from the pics if the mesh panels were flimsy, but I was pleasantly surprised; this mesh is hella sturdy stuff and itās not gonna rip or stretch out. The whole fabric sling piece feels extremely well constructed.I chose this model over the chair zero because I like the frame shape and anti-sinking properties it affords. It looks more stable and aesthetically pleasing to me than the legs on the other one. Iād definitely worry Iād snap one of those little legs off with any wiggling around Iād do. Worth the extra weight imo.The whole thing sets up and folds down quickly and smoothly, no cursing involved. The fabric piece folds up and wraps neatly over the collapsed frame and it all slips easily into the provided bag.The only two things I can knock it for are 1) the price. Iām glad I got a solid, high-quality item, but does everything good really have to cost this much? Itās just a chair dang. And 2) black is a nice neutral color sure to be a crowd pleaser, but I would have liked a brighter more cheerful color choice as well. Neither of these are really points against, overpriced gear is par for the course these days, and we canāt win āem all as far as color.
I bought mine in December of 2018 and have been acting like a particularly jealous dragon over it ever since. Everyone sub-6' who sits in it loves it, and even the tall ones are just sad it's hard for them to get out of. It's light, it goes together every time, everything fits in the stuff sack, and it's supremely comfortable. It basically forces you to recline slightly and especially for me (5'4"), it feels kingly to sit in at the end of a long day on the trail. I personally hate how unstable the chair one/chair zero/similar models from other brands feel--but this always feels rock solid. Away from bugs, no uncomfy rocks or logs for dinner seating, and I have used it literally everywhere, including in the middle of a creek (washed the sand out of the hubs and it ...Ā MoreI bought mine in December of 2018 and have been acting like a particularly jealous dragon over it ever since. Away from bugs, no uncomfy rocks or logs for dinner seating, and I have used it literally everywhere, including in the middle of a creek (washed the sand out of the hubs and it was totally fine), as a crag seat while climbing with friends, in my living room when we ran out of seating during a party, as a cat bed (she loves it), and of course many days on trail. Was devastated when I found out that it wasn't being manufactured anymore and my jealousy over my chair grew, in case anything were to happen to it I feared I would not be able to source a replacement. Fortunately it has stood the test of time, but I'm still considering buying another one now that they're being made again just in case. This chair is the best--buy it, sit in it, love it.
Having a chair while out wild camping is a bit of a luxury but definitely a welcome change from sitting on the ground, particularly in the colder months. The ground chair works great and, because of it's square base, is much less prone to sinking into soft ground than chairs with legs.It packs up pretty small and weighs relatively little for what it is, I am not an ultralight obsessive so I was happy to take the hit to my pack weight. You should note that the ground chair is really low, you're not far off the ground at all so if you're with others in more traditional camping chairs, they'll be looking down on you. Also, because the base is narrower than the seat, it can overbalance if you need to lean over to get something. Overall I'm really pleased with the chair and it seems like I'lll get a decent amount of use out of it although it's far too expensive to take to music festivals etc.
I love Helinox products, and this ground chair will be a perfect addition to my upcoming weeks of field work. I've set it up at home so far, and have enjoyed sitting under my window and closer to floor level to escape some of the summer heat in my flat. The design is excellent, a stable frame that is easy to set up and take down, and I love that the contact points on the ground are a connected in a square with broader feet to minimise sinking. I enjoy the slight recline of the chair, and feel it gives decent back support in a reclined sitting position. As ever, I love how compact and extremely lightweight this chair is, and I like the coyote tan colour I received. Great product!
Read many good reviews on the helinox 1 chair, decided to try the ground chair as its less likely to tip over from fidgety kids. One issue i have with cheaper camping chairs is the edging seams splitting and fraying after 1 summer of use. While i have only used it once so far so cannot comment on the longevity, but i did examine the edging where the stress points are, and it look and felt very sturdy. Space wise i'm 5'3 small/medium sized female and it felt just right, my spouse, a medium sized male, felt like the horizontal space was snug for his liking and is eyeing the XL one chair.
In Helinox's product line of ultralight camp chairs, the Chair Zero is the lightest, but requires the additional purchase (and weight) of the ground sheet for it to ensure stability on uneven surfaces (including sandy places like on the beach). This is where the Ground Chair works best, and weight wise it's practically the same as the Chair Zero + ground sheet! The lower center of gravity is a plus if one wants to take a nap on it, compared to the Chair Zero; ingress/egress is a bit more difficult, but it's a minor inconvenience to pay for a versatile camp chair suited to many uses. Highly recommended!
I upgraded to this chair from my old 3 legged foldable stool. Took it out on the west coast trail with 3 days of sun followed by 3 days of rain. For guaranteed sun. Chair was comfy, good on sand and great to relax, stretch out and enjoy the sun after a long hike. For rainy/muddy hikes. Pros - Dried fast, didn't add too much weight when wet, great more for a place to put gear you don't want muddy or wet. Cons - hard to get out when you don't have a lot of room to get up or are stiff and sore. Poles get mud everywhere, not a quick set up or take down and isn't great for maintaining body heat (seat warmer sold separately).Would I take it again? Sunny-absolutely, Rainy-if I didn't have my 3 legged stool, maybe.
