Best backcountry sleep i've ever had!

I was sceptical about all the motive reviews but i can confirm, i've never slept better while camping. Sleep in the Hennessy Hammock is incredibly comfortable. We were out for a 3 night canoe trip in Wells Grey Park. My kids were with me so i brought my Big Agnes Copper Spur for them. On the second night my son wanted to try the hammock so i slept in the tent on a Thermarest NeoAir Xlite. Horrible sleep and could hardly move the next day. Back to hammock for me!On a side note, an under quilt of some type is necessary. I tried my thermarest but found an under quilt much better. Also, buy the carabiners that most reviewers have suggested. Speeds up the setup and take down process significantly.

Definitely Going to be my Go-to!

I've wanted a hammock for quite some time and have finally had the chance to buy one.I've used it once so far in a backyard setting on a night where it went down to 0°C with a foam pad, MEC Aquila Wide sleeping bag and I had a really good night's sleep. My initial trials have shown serious potential and I have no doubt that this thing is going to perform on the trail.I found it to be easy to set up (I have since bought some things to make it even easier), spacious (I'm 1.75m and 95 kilos), comfortable and comparable in weight to a backpacking tent (if not less than). The only thing I would say about these things is that they're a lot like tents. You can get by with just what comes in the stuff sack, but you're probably going to end up sinking a lot more money ... MoreI've wanted a hammock for quite some time and have finally had the chance to buy one.I've used it once so far in a backyard setting on a night where it went down to 0°C with a foam pad, MEC Aquila Wide sleeping bag and I had a really good night's sleep. You can get bigger ones from the manufacturer if you're so inclined.

I saw youtube videos on the benefits of going with a larger fly, so I bought the Hex fly when I ordered the original hammock. I like others found that the original fly is, in my opinion, too small to give sufficient coverage. I like that I do not have to set up over flat terrain, however it is challenging sometimes to find two trees that are the right distance apart. I like that I can just swing my legs over the side in the morning. Another benefit is that there is room for small critters to scurry under the hammock instead of trying to get inside.Overall this hammock is a really great replacement for a tent. The quality of the fabrication and material is very good. I strongly recommend this hammock for anyone looking for an alternative to a tent.I would not go back to a tent.

Great Idea
30 March 2014

I generally agree with all of the positive reviews, but have a couple points to add. I have owned a classic, a classic zip, and now a deluxe zip model. Definitely think the added size of the deluxe is worth the weight and price. I often substitute a guide tarp for the supplied tarp to allow for more living space under cover. If the weather forecast is good, then the smaller tarp is great. For ultimate weight savings, I have used a integral designs sil poncho to replace the tarp on the smaller hammock. It is large enough for the hammock and also great as a poncho (Haven't tried it with the Deluxe yet!). Use a rubber band to keep the hood closed when using as a tarp.Of note. The zip hammocks work best with either a left or right zip sleeping bag. The classic really only works with a left zip bag. While either will work, it is extremely difficult to get into a right zip bag from the velcro entrance. Its also a lot easier to set up everything including a pad (recommended) from outside if you have a zipper model. If you do a little research, you can find easier ways to attach the lines to the tree straps and save yourself a lot of time and effort. Its also a lot easier to adjust other methods than with the method recommended by Hennessey. Two carabiners and 4 descent rings really speed up setup and take down. (Not endorsed by Hennessey!)Campsites can be extremely easy to find now that I don't need flat or level ground, but remember that two or three hammocks set up on a site, can make for some interesting challenges. Rain days can also be a bit boring without a tent on site.Overall my favourite piece of gear and would heartily recommend to anyone.

Great for motorcycle camping
26 July 2015

This hammock takes up less than a third the space of my tent and packs easier because there are no poles. This really helps on a motorcycle as saddlebags and tail bags can be awkwardly shaped for placing tent poles in. As noted by others, a partially inflated Therm-a-Rest really helps keep your back warm on cool nights. I'm no expert at knots so I tied on climbing carabiners near the hammock at either end and clipped them to webbing (like climbing slings) that was wrapped around the trees. This makes it very easy to set up, in fact, choosing the trees takes longer than setting up. Of course, this could be because there are so many options you could never choose with a tent. I ended up sleeping along a river bank where the ground was uneven and not entirely dry. I ended up sleeping along a river bank where the ground was uneven and not entirely dry. It was a beautiful view to wake up to that would have been impossible with a tent. It also poured rain for many hours and the hammock stayed dry with the included tiny tarp. The drawbacks of hammock camping include: lack of space to change (larger tarp could help), lack of storage space if you like to spread your stuff out and the need to find two properly spaced trees. The advantages greatly outweigh drawbacks: easier to pack, way more comfortable to sleep in, interesting options for stealth camping, doubles as a chair and easier to get in and out of than crawling out of tent.

One of the best hammock on the market
12 September 2018

I slept in a lot of different hammocks : Hennessy, DD, Byer of Maine, Eno, Grand Trunk, Clark,.. Name It, I slept in it!Apart from the NX-270 from Clark, this is the best hammock you will find on the market. It's large, lightweight and built to last. Hennessy use reliable and strong materials and endure an outstanding quality control before shipping every or their products. The snakeskin takes a couple times to get used to, but guarantee you to set up your hammock in a finger snap.My only advice will be to get 2 strong and light carabiners, to install on both ends, and if you're handyman replace their rope with another lighter one..So stop hesitating ! Ditch that stupid tent forever and come and hang with us !!!

Perfect
8 July 2016

My boyfriend and I decides to go camping for our anniversary and he already has a hammock. We wanted to backpack out to a remote spot and our large tent was not gonna fit. So after some research I order this hammock. I'm 5'5 and about 180lbs and this tent was perfect for me. I slept diagonally on my back like suggested but I could also sleep on my side (fetal position) very comfortably. It's made of very sturdy material that made me feel secure. The storage for my book and cellphone was PERFECT. Set up (even w practice rounds at home) Took about 8 min and though it is a little complicated, it was worth it. And thats because this hammock is spacious, sturdy, and is superior at protection from bugs. The rain fly looks like it will protect from rain too. Tho we only got light sprinkles, so it hasn't been tested yet.My only complaint is the lack of airflow. Though it isn't as stuffy as a tent it does trap some body heat. Which is probably great for chilly nights....but it's July, sooo not so great right now. Although flipping back one edge of the rainfly did remedy this...that wouldn't help if it's raining. Some faults aside I so recommend this tent. It's compact enough for backpacking. Well built for long trips. And all around worth the money spent. "But once, cry once." ( meaning cry spending that much money, but never cry again bc the product is superior)

The most important item

The idea is that by making the hammock slightly asymmetrical, one can lie flatter across the hammock. The problem is that this forces you to lay with your head to the left of the midline and your feet to the right. When you flip sides, you end up in the same orientation, head left of center, feet to the right. My natural tendency was to roll over so I was facing the center, and as a result, my body would bow slightly, with the right hip and the bottom of the bow.Overtime, I really wanted to switch sides to flex in the other direction, but due to the asymmetrical design, this was not possible. It became very uncomfortable. This hammock would be excellent for a short weekend of roughing it. It is easy to set up, very well made, light weight, and bug proof. For longer trips, and if you will be sleeping under cover, I might choose another model.

Very Comfy and Handy for Backpacking.

I loved the hammock, not a single issue there. HOWEVER, my hammock arrived used, I paid $200 for a used hammock with minor damage. I didn't have a chance to set it up before my trip, so when I got out in the mountains and set it up, I unzipped it and looked inside, it was full of leaf litter and sand, and the little gear pouch on the inside had hair in it. These things are no big deal, but I also noticed right about the area where you butt sleeps there was an abrasion and small hole. It is rip stop nylon so it still seems pretty rugged but will certainly effect it's life span to some extent. I was very much not impressed. The rain tarp was great, everything stayed dry in a fairly heavy rain. I also got the long stuff bags for the hammock which I suggest everyone get, it makes setup and take down super fast and easy.

interesting tent alternative
10 February 2019

I bought this setup for camping on my motorbike. I love how compact it packs up, and that I don't have to worry about packing around tent poles, but I wish the fly was a bit bigger as I am worried about how dry I will stay if I have to deal with a real rainfall. The asymmetrical design is interesting. I don't find that I can really lie flat, and when I try I often find my feet going over the edge while I sleep and being supported only by the netting, but I still find it quite comfortable. The biggest thing I would say you should consider if thinking of switching to a hammock style of camping is storage and changing. As I travel on a motorbike I have a lot of expensive riding gear with me and with the hammock there is nowhere to put it where it is out of sight.
