I love Hercules stands, but this one falls a little short of their usual perfection. First of all the base is really big, about 2' in diameter with all three legs fully extended; although this is necessary if you want to fully extend the boom, is still way to big if you've got limited space. Second of all the knob that tightens the tilt mechanism on the boom arm has a rubber gasket that has to be cranked down really hard to keep it from slipping and drooping. This is a really dumb design and kind of surprising to anyone accustomed to Hercules usually great engineering. If you don't need a lot of height or boom extention, I'd go with the small Hercules stand and pair it with one of the small On-Stage booms. This set up works great on acoustic guitar and is a better choice for a little less money. If you looking for a vocal mic stand, the larger tilt Hercules version is probably a better choice for that application. I'll still use this stand from time time, but it's admittedly a bit of a dissappointment.

I work as front of house engineer for a concert venue with 4 stages with shows every night of the week, sometimes 3 at a time! We use our equipment and Hercules stands are he most reliable, stable, and well made products on the market hands down! Furthermore, for those concerned with the guarantee, don't be! Anytime we have a problem...which has only been twice in 3 years...they sent us replacements immediately.

The tension knob that holds the boom is difficult to use. Need an impact wrench to get it to hold. Rubber gaskets too soft. Surprised because other Hurcules items I have are very good equipment.

I needed an extended microphone boom arm for use with a custom-built keyboard cabinet. Since I was unable to find any boom arms specifically designed for this purpose, I took a gamble and spent $45 on the Hercules Low-Profile Tripod Microphone Boom Stand. I had no use for the tripod, just the boom arm, but it would not fit through the hole that I had drilled for my mic boom. So I ended up taking the tripod apart and using one of the metal legs as a shaft that fit through the hole in back of the cabinet. I was then able to fit the boom arm over the metal shaft and presto--I had a built-in mic boom that swiveled in place and could be adjusted to extend out over the front of the cab to mike keyboard vocals. After trying other options for miking keyboard vocals, I couldn't be much happier with this Hercules product. Key Features: -Lightweight -Telescoping Boom Arm -Detachable Mic Clip -XLR Cable Retainer
I am an acoustic guitarist/singer and play seated so I was looking for a low profile stand. I didn't see too many options. This is a nice heavy duty stand which seems well constructed. I do think it is important for potential purchasers to know that the mechanism which tightens the boom in position has to be turned really, really tight to keep it's position with the weight of a microphone on it. A person with arthritis or not a lot of hand strength may have difficulty with it. Also note that it is with the counterweight portion of the boom extended 23" and the portion holding the mic 23", so I am not attempting a crazy, unbalanced setup. Positioned as in the picture here in the ad it would be even more unbalanaced. I don't think it is specifically a defect in my ... Positioned as in the picture here in the ad it would be even more unbalanaced. I don't think it is specifically a defect in my unit as I see this same issue in more than one previous review here. My economy boom stands do better. The knob at the bottom that tightens the base to the shaft of the stand works really great with just finger tightening. That part is superior to any of my economy stands. A good stand overall, but would be a great stand if they could redesign a little.
It's exactly what I'd hoped. My only complaint - or warning - would be that when you tighten the boom arm angle knob, I find I have to tighten it further than you might expect after using other brands of mic stand, to prevent the mic very slowly sagging to the ground.
Well made, as I have found with all Hercules products!. Excellent mic stand for mic'ing up acoustic guitar, or other instruments, whilst played in standing position. Does not take up too much room on stage. The boom will extend, telescopically, to accommodate a higher mic position extending to approx 1.7m high. There is also an excellent mic clip supplied that will accommodate a range on different size mics.
I've had this for nearly a year now, and am quite happy with it. All the parts are well made and seem they will last for years. Relatively light weight, good looking and very stable.Believe it or not, I have used this mostly for mounting a CAD M179 studio condenser microphone...which has revealed one flaw: With the extra weight of the heavy microphone, the boom would gradually tilt forward. With the boom straight up, there is a simple solution: Wrap one or two cable-management (Velcro) straps to hold the bottom end (handle) of the boom close against the stand. All that being said, this was not designed for a 17.8 oz Studio condenser, but with a little help, still does a great job.
