As a Frank Herbert fan for many years, I wanted to continue after the Dune trilogy, which I recently re-read after nearly 40 years, so I was pleased to find the titles I wanted on WOB. The book was in good condition and a good price. I am half way through "Heretics of Dune" and am enjoying it as much as the first three books, which are complicated, spellbinding and incredibly hard to put down.

I really like this serie, but book number five is not my favorite one so far. I found it really hard to focus up until a little past half the book. Still recommend reading it! Got my copy at Chapters.

Classic Science Fiction 101
14 December 2021

No science fiction library is complete without Frank Herbert's first six volumes in the Dune series. While I don't dismiss modern science fiction, you can't leave classics like Herbert, Asimov and Clarke off your reading list. A REAL science fiction fan should go back even further to Verne, Burroughs and Rider.

No jacket cover

I was expecting this book to be in better condition considering the price, it shows a jacket in the picture but it didnt come with one on it. The book is worn considerably & the cover is loose.

Religion, politics, and sex. Has it all.

Continues the saga of the Atreides family and their legacy. The chapter intros can get tiresome. Frank Herbert has created a fascinating, and sometimes, terrifying future for humankind. I find that once I get into the plot, the books are difficult to put down. Even though millennia passes between some of the books, familiar themes, character descendants, and factions keep it interesting. If you like a good series, Dune is a classic.

You have to be committed to reading it!
29 February 2024

A thought-provoking but weird entry in the Dune series, which features an incomprehensible plot full of schemes the characters themselves don't seem to understand is about, and an off-screen final battle that we don't see. No one reads Herbert for the plot, however, and this novel has layers of thought-provoking issues that are raised. That it was written in the early 1980s makes it all the more surprising in the 2020s.
