The Mage of the Mirror Quest Pack is an excellent expansion to the classic Hero Quest game. The new quests add a whole new level of excitement to the game, and the new characters and spells add even more variety and depth to the gameplay. The quests themselves are challenging and rewarding, and the new mechanics and items keep the game fresh and exciting. Overall, this expansion is a must-have for any Hero Quest fan looking to take their game to the next level.

I’m so happy this was remade. I really appreciate the production value; improvements have been made to the plastic models as compared to the original Pulse release miniatures, and the plastic trays that house the models have also been improved (thank you!). I wish the wolf, princess and prospector tokens were replaced with sculpts instead; otherwise, it’s a perfect addition to any HeroQuest collection.

I've been very impressed with all of the HQ refreshes so far, but Mage excited me the most because it's the first one I didn't own the original of (obviously I didn't get the KS exclusive stuff)! Opening it up, the reality matched my expectations! The mold lines on the minis are nearly nonexistent, and the quality of the materials match up to all previous sets. I couldn't be more happy, and I'm looking forward to all future content, both new and remade!

Great product, terrible shipping
15 February 2023

Everything arrived in one piece, but at first I wasn't certain it did. Order was shipped in a box of a larger size than the quest pack. The only packing material seemed to be a length of brown paper. If the paper was supposed to lock the item in place, it failed likely due to the difference in sizes between the shipping box and the quest pack. So at first, I though part of the quest pack had been torn open. Thankfully, it was only an exterior cardboard wrap. The box of the quest pack did take some minor cosmetic damage. I'm not trying to collect these in pristine condition, so I'm not very upset. But it is a noticeable factor that makes me hesitant to purchase any of the more collectible items from this service.

Happy to have it, although a little disappointed
30 January 2023

I'm a little disappointed that the mirrors are not pieces, but are the old-style cardboard piece pushed into a stand. They are able to give us molded doors and doorframes, but a mold for the mirror was just too much? I could say the same about the Orb, but it's not that bad, considering. All of the other pieces are excellent. I don't see much issues with seams and joints, and even where they glued together some parts are done well. Cards are excellent quality, and would like to have seen a few Werewolf figures to take place of turned heroes, but I can't have everything. The mirrors absolutely should have been molded, though.

Love this Heroquest Expansion
17 February 2023

This expansion is amazing. When I bought the original game in the 90s I never got this expansion. I'm thrilled to be able to play it now. The additional setting models are a great addition to the base game. The new monster and character models look great. Plus, the added spell cards and elven items bring versatility and freshness to the experience.

More miniatures, less furniture next time
16 February 2023

A good remake of the original expansion. The main issue is that there are tokens for important characters like the princess and yet no models for them. Instead, they gave us new furniture which while pretty is totally unnecessary as all that furniture comes with the base game. Instead, we should have got all miniatures for everyone we would encounter with the game, for werewolf versions of the heroes and for the mirrors.

Return to an old classic!
30 January 2023

This one is a bit tricky to me, as I've never played this one when it first came out. However, I do own a (significantly damaged) copy of the original. And, I have to say, I'm surprised by the perplexing changes. From small things like the cutting the Ogre's body points in half, to the inclusion of new furniture...? This is even more odd to me when they could have made miniatures for the Princess, the Prospector, the Werewolf transformed players, or perhaps given us a plastic throne room, instead of a cardboard standy. That said, it's still a fine product. The furniture (though largely unnecessary) was very beautiful! I also like the sculpts of the heroes and villains. And the cards, as always are gorgeous.

Transphobic Play Set
1 February 2023

Honestly, I thought Hasbro was better than this. When are we going to see a return with male characters? My Transgender son better identifies with male characters so I was a little disappointed when this set came with only a female. Don't get me wrong, I am all about strong and brave female representation. But, when you have a child who is already struggling with his identity it is like a slap in the face for him to see his identity mocked in such a way. I suggest Hasbro go back to making all sets gender neutral by designing them with both male and female characters in mind.

Very Difficult Questpack, With Updates since the 1992 Original!
11 February 2023

Originally released in 1992, exclusively in North America, this expansion is finally available in remake form, but this time, unlike the Frozen Horror, includes a few new surprises:1) New plastic furniture. Re-sculpts of those previously included in the Game System: Fireplace, Tomb with removable lid (bigger than the old one), Alchemist's Bench, Throne, Weapon's Rack, Treasure chests (3), Bookcases (2). Not included in the old Elf Quest pack. Like Frozen Horror, the "Iron" and "Wooden" Entrance/Exit doors are unique sculpts from other packs. The Portcullis (4) are also all plastic but the two mirrors use plastic bases into which are inserted the cardboard pieces (bases are different type of plastic than the other furniture).2) Double the number of "elf" monsters. ... MoreOriginally released in 1992, exclusively in North America, this expansion is finally available in remake form, but this time, unlike the Frozen Horror, includes a few new surprises:1) New plastic furniture. The Portcullis (4) are also all plastic but the two mirrors use plastic bases into which are inserted the cardboard pieces (bases are different type of plastic than the other furniture).2) Double the number of "elf" monsters. Left and right (male and female) versions of the Elven Archers and Elven Warriors (swordsmen) as if "mirrors" of each other. Originally there were two of each now there are four of each evil character type.3) Hero is the male Elf based on the 1992 cover artwork (never before seen) rather than the original female elf who had the curved dagger and sheath. He bears a shield and curved sword and is in red plastic (instead of the original light blue).4) The Ogres have axes and a mohawk haircut (more like the Ogre Champion from the EU "Against the Ogre Horde" pack) and are rendered in gray plastic instead of the dark blue of the 1992 versions.5) Box has a cardboard partial outer sleeve which shows the box contents instead of the artwork and the box itself has a pronounced linen finish that makes it easier to slide open than previous expansion boxes.6) Rule/Lore changes: A) The 1992 paragraph describing the female elf and saying you can only use one Elf in a party at a time is deleted completely without explanation. B) Note says unmarked Treasure chests contain "Elven Riches" of 200 gold coins to the first treasure searching hero (but all previously unmarked chests have been given notes indicating they contain other amounts of gold or other treasure). C) Elven Bracers Artifact is now found in Quest 1 whereas in 1992 it was never found. D) Ogre monster card has had its body points reduced from 10 to only 5. E) The names of Quests 1 and Quest 9/10 have been changed. F) Like the sword in Quest 1, the artifact known had its name changed ("Avenger" to "Sovereign Sword") as "Moon silver" was changed to "Lunarium." G) Note was added saying that if you have Mercenaries from another expansion, you can hire them in group quests, which will help with difficulty! Some of these changes are inexplicable (perhaps to avoid the appearance of trademark infringement?), while others are welcome fixes to what was otherwise a bit of a rough expansion (not as rough as "Frozen Horror" before the list of fixes included in the digital "Into the Northlands" and the equivalent in the HeroQuest Companion App) and make the extreme difficulty more manageable compared to previous expansions.I like that the light blue figures are a slight greenish color, subtly different than the blue figures in the Frozen Horror. I love the inclusion of the male elf and the new furniture. I also appreciate the build quality of the box. I wish that the Ogres had been dark blue and I'm a little confused why they removed the text describing the "alternate elf" (perhaps to avoid confusion if people own the Rogue Heir of Elethorn?). I like the fixes although choosing to have a 10 body point Ogre in the final quests probably makes sense and some Zargons may choose to adopt the "old ways" on that one. To me the Frozen Horror gave more content than this one, but this one is "less broken" in terms of gameplay glitches. Avalon Hill has tried to preserve the essence of this out of print expansion (it is super expensive online in the vintage edition) for vintage fans while also improve it to a higher level of quality expected by HeroQuest players.Great job by Avalon Hill! I look forward to their remakes of the EU expansions Against the Ogre Horde, Wizards of Morcar and the Dark Company (and more)!
