It's so odd to me, seeing so many 5 star reviews on this canned kitten food. I foster neonatal kittens, and have never had good luck with this food. My adult cats and my Am Staff, who typically go to extreme, sneaky lengths to steal foster kitten foods, won't even touch this. I'm assuming it's a cheaper canned kitten food, because it's donated to our Humane Society a lot. It's one that they typically give out to fosters when they are low on donations. Everyone knows that the kittens don't eat it well. I can get about half of my fosters, at most, to eat it if I mix it with warm kitten formula. Plain, they will rarely eat it. The adults cats in my home and my garbage disposal of a dog don't even want anything to do with it. That really makes me wonder about quality. This is a really good choice for a nutritionally sound, lower calorie food, and our cat (admittedly not picky) immediately devoured it. But the real message here is: you need to find out how many kcal/day your cat needs for weight loss, research the calories in your cat's food, and accurately measure your feeding. There do not appear to be industry standards for what's labeled as 'weight management', 'light' etc., and the differences are dramatic! Our very young and energetic cat starting piling on weight from when he was a kitten. We decided to switch from a Purina Pro Plan regular adult formula to their 'weight management' formula--still, kitty was gaining. When I finally did the research of how many kcal/day he should be getting and how many kcal we were giving him (mind you--the recommended, measured amount), I was shocked. The packaging recommends 56-84 g./day of the food for weight loss, for a cat with a goal weight of 10-14 lbs. That's 214-321 calories, measured by their own nutrition information. But my research at [...] showed that the recommended amount should be 187 calories/day for weight loss, for a goal weight of 10-12 lb. That means the *minimum* amount recommended by the Purina label was 27 more calories/day than he should be getting--or 14% more! and the maximum 'recommended' amount was 72% more than he should be getting for weight loss.

Hills Science Diet makes far superior diet for any species you you would consider feeding their foods . Their cat foods are no exception. Their specialty diets and regular diets are prepared with dietary needs the highest concern. Each in made with veterinary I put as well I doubt very seriously you would find a good that is higher quality or better made. They make cat/feline, dog/canine, Bird/parrots, monkey/primate, rabbit/bunny, several other feeds items. You love you pets, feed them the best you can. Do your homework.

Awesome, quality cat food

Would strongly recommend this cat food, veterinarian recommended. Vet says there are very few brand that actually test there food to make sure the ingredients on the back are what is actually in the food. Science diet is one of those brands and as a result, I bought it. My dog and cats love science diet food! I don’t mind paying the extra price for quality food. Other brands my vet recommended are Purina pro plan and Royal Canin for the same reason. All these brands test as they also make specialty foods.

Excellent Hairball Control and Weight Management

We’ve had our cat on the regular hairball control by Hill’s and were very pleased to find they have a diet version. The vet recently recommended she lose a few pounds, but it’s been tough. And her hairballs have been out of control since the weather started heating up, so this find is the perfect product. She definitely likes this better than the regular version and it really seems to be helping both her weight and hairball frequency. We’ll definitely be continuing with this product.

Great food for low calorie diets and healthy pets!

The food is quite costly compared to that of other brands that you may encounter; however, it is still cheaper then buying from a vet. The food has responsibly sourced proteins and light in calories. It is a great weight loss assistant and both of my cats very much enjoy the food. I think this may be their favorite food nothing I've ever had. Since the food is based on a lower calorie diet it helps keep the cat's weight in check and may help lose weight. The price is a bit daunting but definitely worth every penny. If you want a food that your cat will very likely enjoy and help maintain a healthy weight or lose weight this may be a good option. Also, my cat's fur has never been so shiny!

My cat is not reacting to this well

There are a lot of good reviews for this product, and I’m sure it works well for cats who actually need hairball control. My cat however, never had an issue with hairballs. He is a few pounds over weight though, so the vet advised Hill’s light versions of food and the hairball control to speed his metabolism. I didn’t really like the thought of him being on a food that treats a problem he doesn’t have, but I trusted the professional. We’re about halfway through the 15 lb bag and my cat has thrown up more times than he has in his entire 3 years. Before this particular food, he’s thrown up 5 times max. Over the past 2 months he’s taken that number and doubled it. Projectile vomiting too, I’ve never seen anything like it. Tough going at first.

My cat isn't impressed with the taste of the light food; but, he must lose weight and this is what the vet recommended. He needs 300Kcal/day. So I'm mixing 1/3 cup of this with 1/4 cup of the old to equal 300 Kcals and he'll eat it. He would be able to eat more if he would eat only the science diet. I try to keep lowering the old food amount and increasing the new; but, when I get to a certain amount of all science diet he rebels. It should be easier on him to eat more with less calories but he just doesn't seem to like it.

Wrong kibble

We have been feeding the Adult Light dry food to our cats for years. Recently we bought a big bag and found that the kibble shape was wrong. I assumed it was the wrong food in the bag. I returned the bag and felt another bag before buying and that kibble shape was also wrong. I tried a different store - same story. I ended up have to buy a much more expensive small bag that had the correct kibble shape (and hopefully the correct food). I reached out to Hills via online chat and got a generic 'sorry' type response and the only option for follow up was to call a phone line during business hours (not convenient). Either the wrong food was in multiple bags or the kibble shape has changed without any warning (and does not match the shape shown on the bag).
