A good quality "Gold" rated lock. very good quality, however because of this it is heavy, not too bad when wearing it but a heavy object to put in panniers etc, the price you pay for an expensive e-bike!

The product fulfills its purpose as a very robust bike lock fully. However, I think the idea of a lock around the waist is a better design for many men's wardrobe, than for many women's wardrobe. I find it hard to use it with the kinds of jackets I wear and end up putting it in my bike basket instead - which I guess is not how it's intended to be used.

Easy to carry for such a substantial lock.

I bought this a few weeks ago on special offer to use with my ebike. The frame is too big for a standard D-lock. As long as I make sure the chain is not anywhere near the floor when the bike is locked, and I've locked my bike up quite tightly, it feels pretty secure.It is very heavy but because I can wear it around my waist I really don't notice the weight. In fact it's easier to carry than my previous d-lock which inevitably ended up weighing my bag down or rattling around on the handlebars.I haven't used it in the rain yet but I just plan to wear it over a rain jacket when it gets wet.Considering the price point and features I am really pleased with it.

Good wearable chain lock

The Hiplock Gold seems to be well built. There are better (stronger) chains out there but this one can be carried easily around your waist, or over your shoulder and across your body as a normal chain lock. Weight feels more unnoticeable when worn around your waist. The only problem I see on the long term is the strap buckle that hooks on to the lock, it's made out of plastic. Time will tell when this part will fail. They should have made this out of metal or metal covered in plastic.

Inspires confidence. Very chunky.

This chain weighs a ton but you don't notice it when it's round your waist. Unfortunately it will not go small enough to stay round my waist and rests on my hips, which isn't very comfortable and causes big black bruises, so my husband has got lucky and has a new chain lock. I'm a UK size 12. I recommend this lock for anyone bigger than me but not people my size or smaller. The chain and lock are very chunky and inspire confidence. You can see why this lock is Sold Secure rated Gold. It's a beast.

It's a bike lock, and it works

This is a burly lock (with the safety rating to back up the feel and appearance) and it certainly locked my bike securely. I really wanted to like the Hiplok; it's comfortable to wear and is a neat idea. However, the more I used it, and with different backpack configurations, I couldn't convince myself I liked it better than the locks I already own. I found the floppiness of the chain to be cumbersome; it just wasn't as easy to pass the Hiplok through wheel spokes or chainlink fencing.For sizing, I have a 29" waist and 36" hip measurement. While the lock says for waist 28"-44", it sits on your hips as the name implies. I had to keep the lock as small as it would go and even then felt it would slide down some and bump into my legs as I pedaled. If you're on the small end of the size range, I would recommend trying it on first or buying somewhere with a good return policy.In summary, it's not a bad product and I would recommend it for someone whose use scenarios require the Hiplok's features. I just never found myself in a situation during my normal commuting where I'd rather have the Hiplok over a nice U-lock.

Strength with portability

Very very well made chain that hits the window for both security piece of mind and portability. I carry it like a belt around my waist and once it's settled you forget it's there. As for its primary purpose of deterring thieves it's one of the best on the market, I reckon. Excellent product.

Very awkward to lock

Whilst I appreciate this is rated Gold, it is still a rather expensive lock considering how basic it is.The fabric for the clip that attaches to the lock allowing for it to be worn around the waist is annoying and gets in the way whilst trying to close the lock.The lock itself is difficult and awkward to lock. If you are trying to use the lock in conjunction with a cable lock, it makes it even more difficult and frustrating to lock.Save yourself some money and stick with a D-lock.

awkward fitting

I've had the original hiplok for quite a few years, always liked the Velcro belt design as it's quick to put on your waist. I got this one as insurance requires a higher rating one. I thought it would be the same, so didn't even check it before paying. Turns out, it's not fasten by Velcro, but a fiddly plastic clip. The chain is more rigid than the lighter version which makes it hard to bend round your waist (unless you have a very large middle...) In the end I just took the clip off, cut off the excess webbing and replaced it with a carabiner.
