Have been a Clifton runner since the original Clifton. Went through al the variations and changes, some ok, some not. Clifton 9 is the Best Edition, in my opinion. A great trainer and for racing, though in racing I tend to go with a racing shoe just to have less cushion and more direct output. (For Cross Country, I go with the Tecton X, excellent in all aspects!) I digressed! Neutral road cushion runner/racer the 9 is a winner, I now have a few pairs of Clifton 9. Knowing there will always be changes, I locked in a few pairs of this Best run shoe!

Fantastic Fit!!!! Really Incredible Fit. Zero heel slippage. Lacing is perfect! Some reviews say this shoe is narrow but I find the toe box to be roomy.I wear 10.5 in Nike Pegasus but I buy 11 in Hokas. The arch fits me better when I size up a bit. I do think they are pretty true to size though.Super cushion but very Stable.I highly recommend these Cliftons. I have a pair of Speedgoat and they are fantastic as well.Great Brand!!!!

For reference, I've put about 4000 miles on various Hoka shoes. I say that because I'm not a newbie to Hoka. I've ran in almost every Clifton that they have produced. The Hoka Clifton 9 is the best version so far. This shoe has been modified for the better and I couldn't be happier. They increased the stack height of and upgraded the mid foam and yet still managed to reduce the weight of the shoe. That is very impressive for sure. They upgraded the upper with an Engineered knit material and increase the breathability of the shoe. Next, the increased the size of the tongue by making it bigger and more plushy. This really made the lock down on top of my foot feel great. The overall feel of the tongue reminded me of the Bondi 8s tongue. Bought my first Hokas over three years ago during lockdown one (Clifton 6). Liked them so much I ran (plodded) three marathons in five days wearing them. Bought a second pair shortly afterwards. Still using the first ones - they just get better with age. Didn't think they could improve on the 6's. I was wrong. Somehow they've managed to take the perfect daily running shoe and make it that little bit better. Bravo Hoka!
I bought these from the Belconnen store hoping that they would be a slightly reworked Clifton 8 but they are a totally different shoe all together.Having now run 30k this week in them I am unfortunately already looking to replace them. The heel support feels strong but they are far wider at the front than the 8’s which leads to pivoting of the toes left and right over long distances. The sole is probably twice if not more spongy than the 8’s and unfortunately feels like marshmallows loosely strapped to your feet.At best I would say these are long distance pavement walking shoes and at work fashion shoes. I wouldn’t say these are anywhere near up to spec as runners.
I was not thrilled with the price but having a gift certificate I decided why not, my wife has been raving about Hoka shoes for years. My first 2 to 3 mile run was a bit disappointing. I thought these were supposed to be the Holy Grail of shoes but now that I am five runs in and over 25 miles including a very hilly 7 mile trail run I did, these shoes are excellent. At first I thought the ample cushioning was a bit too amorphous, it's there but it's almost too much or doesn't really help me run. And then I started landing on the forefoot more, especially on slight downhills and that's where the shoe really began to shine. The only drawback is shown in this picture if you zoom in - after the trail run I washed them as I usually would and it appears that I'm going to ... MoreI was not thrilled with the price but having a gift certificate I decided why not, my wife has been raving about Hoka shoes for years. The only drawback is shown in this picture if you zoom in - after the trail run I washed them as I usually would and it appears that I'm going to have to go back in for a deeper clean to get out the brownish orange dirt that is still embedded in the material. I only have myself to blame though for ordering this color. An excellent shoe for running and I'm sure for walking or a job that requires you to be on your feet all the time you're going to love this immediately without any break in time needed.
I was looking for plush, light shoes with a wide toebox, and these were supposed to tick all the boxes but unfortunately these keep with the general trend of Hoka shoes to run narrow. This is still the case even though they are "wide" and half a size bigger than my normal size. These are still great if you have narrow'ish or normal feet, but if you need truly wide ones with plenty of cushioning - consider Altra Olympus in EE (wide). They are even more cushioned (33mm stack and zero drop).
This is my third generation of the Hoka Clifton running shoe. I also have a pair of the Clifton Lifestyle model for everyday walking. I have really enjoyed the Clifton for running. It has great cushioning if you are looking for a maximalist running shoe. The upper in this iteration seems a bit more structured than the last generation. Overall, the Clifton continues to be my go to running shoe and I would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a lightweight, plush, shoe with neutral stability.
I can't tell you why this shoe is giving me so much grief. From the start it felt not quite comfortable. I've had 2 pairs of Clifton 8 before this and never felt this way. Maybe it's because the base is harder, so doesn't seem to absorb as much impact. The actually impact is lot louder. I've actually switched back to my Clifton 8 that have over 500 miles on them and they're more comfortable. Will be returning these.
I ordered these on a Friday… to set the stage. With any other company there has never been movement on an order on the weekend. Dick’s had the order shipped and I got them on Tuesday. Super fast, super easy, and I got exactly what I wanted which are the plain white Hoka Clifton 9’s.Oh, was I supposed to review the shoes too? As soon as I put them on I could tell the fit was better than the 8’s. The cushion feels softer, and the rest of the shoe is about the same. The mesh top is likely lighter than on the 8’s. Overall, the 9 is my go-to, as were the 8’s. I go through a pair every month (350+ mi) so I’ll be back soon.
