Have been a Clifton runner since the original Clifton. Went through al the variations and changes, some ok, some not. Clifton 9 is the Best Edition, in my opinion. A great trainer and for racing, though in racing I tend to go with a racing shoe just to have less cushion and more direct output. (For Cross Country, I go with the Tecton X, excellent in all aspects!) I digressed! Neutral road cushion runner/racer the 9 is a winner, I now have a few pairs of Clifton 9. Knowing there will always be changes, I locked in a few pairs of this Best run shoe!

For reference, I've put about 4000 miles on various Hoka shoes. I say that because I'm not a newbie to Hoka. I've ran in almost every Clifton that they have produced. The Hoka Clifton 9 is the best version so far. This shoe has been modified for the better and I couldn't be happier. They increased the stack height of and upgraded the mid foam and yet still managed to reduce the weight of the shoe. That is very impressive for sure. They upgraded the upper with an Engineered knit material and increase the breathability of the shoe. Next, the increased the size of the tongue by making it bigger and more plushy. This really made the lock down on top of my foot feel great. The overall feel of the tongue reminded me of the Bondi 8s tongue. I bought the new Clifton 9 in the cute pink color. I have owned multiple pairs of Clifton’s before and have been very happy with them.. no break in time, comfortable from first try on. When I first tried these on, I felt something was off. They just didn’t feel right.. more firm, rubbing my ankles. I wore them for 2 weeks to see if I could break them in but my feet ACHED when I wore them and hurt after I took them off too. So sad that they changed up these shoes. They are TTS as my others were but I just couldn’t keep wearing them as they hurt SO much.

I bought these from the Belconnen store hoping that they would be a slightly reworked Clifton 8 but they are a totally different shoe all together.Having now run 30k this week in them I am unfortunately already looking to replace them. The heel support feels strong but they are far wider at the front than the 8’s which leads to pivoting of the toes left and right over long distances. The sole is probably twice if not more spongy than the 8’s and unfortunately feels like marshmallows loosely strapped to your feet.At best I would say these are long distance pavement walking shoes and at work fashion shoes. I wouldn’t say these are anywhere near up to spec as runners.
This is my third generation of the Hoka Clifton running shoe. I also have a pair of the Clifton Lifestyle model for everyday walking. I have really enjoyed the Clifton for running. It has great cushioning if you are looking for a maximalist running shoe. The upper in this iteration seems a bit more structured than the last generation. Overall, the Clifton continues to be my go to running shoe and I would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a lightweight, plush, shoe with neutral stability.
I haven't bought running shoes in quite awhile. I can no longer jog due to my knees but, I power walk and walking shoes were not cutting it. My knees were sore the day after walking so until I purchased the Hoka shoe, I would alternate walking with the stationary bike. The Hoka is a cushioned ride and to my surprise, hugs my narrow heel. I'm also able to put my orthotics in them with no issues on the fit and this is the first pair of running shoes that I can wear my regular street size instead of ordering a half or full size larger. Not sure what the life expectancy is for these shoes but time will tell. Iam a nurse who works 12 hour shifts and needed a comfortable and supportive shoe. Purchased pair clifton 9 two weeks ago. They have decent support which helped bottom of foot. However they are not soft and comfortable. They are very stiff and let me tell you they run small and narrow and purchased half soze larger than I normally wear. Typically shoes are big on my heel and upper foot but I need length. If your feet are wide at all these would not be for you. The shoes are rubbing too much against ankle and too of foot. Plus the toe is somewhat pointed leaving little room in the toe box. I am disappointed because I hear of many people who love their hokas. My husband too he wears the clufton 8. So clifton 9 was a mistake
These are my 5th pair of Cliftons and there definitely is a difference. The toe box feels roomier than the 8's did, but I didn't have that sink in, ultra-comfy, "Aaah"-like experience when I first put them on. There feels like there is more bounce to them, and that makes them definitely feel more responsive than the 7's or 8's did. My first run was four miles--I don't run any other pace besides slow--and while comfortable, they felt like they need to be broken in, which I didn't have to do with previous models. I still like them, though, and hopefully the more miles I put on them, the cushier they'll feel. For reference I am a 148lb female.
I ordered these on a Friday… to set the stage. With any other company there has never been movement on an order on the weekend. Dick’s had the order shipped and I got them on Tuesday. Super fast, super easy, and I got exactly what I wanted which are the plain white Hoka Clifton 9’s.Oh, was I supposed to review the shoes too? As soon as I put them on I could tell the fit was better than the 8’s. The cushion feels softer, and the rest of the shoe is about the same. The mesh top is likely lighter than on the 8’s. Overall, the 9 is my go-to, as were the 8’s. I go through a pair every month (350+ mi) so I’ll be back soon.
I present to you my new daily running shoe. My last pair of shoe were the saucony Kinvara 8. I had order the new kinvara 12 but they didn’t fit my feet well. I needed new shoes and I found these. What a nice surprise, perfect combinaison of confort and performance with a toe box wide enough to fit my big hallux valgus(runner feet). I used to order 7.5 us women but for them I needed to take half a size smaller(so a 7). Would absolutely recommend. I run between 5k to 15k very easily without any problem.
