Hoka One One Black GORE-TEX Tennine Hike Boots

Hoka Tennine Hike GTX Walking boots (14 - Regular, black): The idea of HOKA was to develop shoes that ensure comfort and speed over long distances. The focus was especially on downhill stretches. The typical Hoka Metarocker sole was developed for this. This is a particular feature of the Tennine Hike GTX and is literally outstanding! On steep descents, pressure points are reduced due to the special design of the midsole, which noticeably lowers pressure on the joints. The sole also supports the natural gait cycle and ensures efficient steps. The Tennine Hike GTX is especially robust and ideally suited to long adventures. The outsole is no exception here: The Vibram Megagrip rubber mix with 5 millimetre studs always ensures a firm grip - kilometre after kilometre. In addition, the GORE-TEX membrane offers reliable protection against moisture and keeps the socks dry.Of course, what you notice first of all about this walking shoe is its special design. This gives the completely accomplished shoe for long distances a stylish appearance when out and about on walking trails.

After 29 years, no more pain while, or after, hiking.

I am 5'11' 215 lbs and avid hiker here in the East Bay of NoCal. I bought these boots because I need waterproof protection and also a comfortable shoe that doesn't put any stress on my feet, ankles, knees or legs. I took these out of the box onto a 3 mile hike at Garin Regional Park in mud, puddles, rocks, steep slippery slopes and had no issues, great grip, and able to wear thick socks with them. My feet felt great afterwards. I purchased true to size (11.5 US Men) and these fit perfectly. They are a little bit hard to get into because they "wrap" the foot. What I like about this is that when the laces get loose, the boots stay on and firmly to the foot. Amazing product, thanks, Hoka!

I used my Hoka One running shoes as a guide and was quite surprised by how large and wide these were. This resulted in a minimally-sized tongue that barely reached to the level of the top laces. On the other hand, the lacing system was the most impressive I've ever seen on a pair of boots. The shoes come with a warning to not attempt to drive or do stairs. I would agree. If you're inclined to point your toes anything but straight ahead while walking, stepping, maneuvering, sidling, you're apt to step on the broad, long protrusion of rubber around and behind the heel. I walked with great care. In the house, I frequently found myself stepping on the sole while doing things like washing dishes and stepping from one side of the sink to the other, or turning to put something on the range. I weighed the risks of having a sole-related mishap while out wandering off trail and decided these aren't for me. Fall avoidance is high on my priority list. But, if you just want to walk in a straight line and never turn around or get out of the way of someone coming the other way, these should be great, especially if you have any foot pain to start with.

Great shoe for pronation.
6 December 2022

I own Brooks Beast, Kuru Hiking Boots, Hoka Gaviota 4s, and Hoka Ten Nine Hike Gortex. My main issue is right foot pronation causing a lot of ankle and top of the foot pain. I'm an avid athlete, hike every day of the year about 5 miles a day, lift weights 5-6 days a week, have done a lot of long distance cycling (i.e Oregon to Virginia), am 5 foot 9 inches and weigh about 190 pounds. The Hokas -- either one beat the Beast and the Kuru boot, although these two are pretty good. Biggest issue with the TenNine is driving, the shoe is so big it isn't safe to drive with. Beautiful however on the trails. Virtually pain free and no pronation. The perfect shoe would be the Gaviota 4 in a hightop, with treads for outdoors, but the TenNine is close to perfection!

Great shoes
20 January 2023

I use these shoes for work. I'm a courier for fedex and I'm on my feet all day. I've put these shoes through cold rainy days and they kept my feet dry and warm. They have been durable over these past few months I've had them. They've been great for my knees and balance getting in and out of my truck all day. My only issue and it's not a big one is, the heel that sticks out catches the stairs when I go down them and the bottom along that back heel is starting to come off. I have to make sure when going down the stairs to focus on turning my feet to an angle to go down them.

Just Arrived
8 May 2023

1) I have to say HOKA amazed me with my purchase, I ordered on Friday May 5th and they are on my feet as we speak Monday May 8th. Originally it said 10 days but they are here in 3 with no shipping costs. That rocks. 2) About me, I am 61 years young, I have been in construction my whole life and I have always worn Redwing boots. Anyone in construction knows why you wear leather boots. Unfortunately I developed a case of Plantar fasciitis 3 years ago and boy it is painful. So after 3 years trying any shoe that i could to give me releif I am now on to this one. The HOKA Tennine GTX. 3) As I said before, they just arrived and i have only waked 50 steps maybe and they feel great so far. My problem is that i just walked 8000 steps in a pair of Adidas and my foot is killing me right now so my 2nd review starts tomorrow morning after my foot gets better. I was lucky enough to get these in solid black and gray so i don't stick out to much on the jobsite, i know i am already going to catch flack just from appearance but i don't care, I am 61 and i am also the boss. Anyway, KUDOS to HOKA, you have impressed me to say the least.

Killer hiking shoes, please HOKA stop using Gore-Tex!
11 August 2021

I used these for a 360 km FKT where I was covering a lot of distance and was moving up to 18 hours a day. I feel like the big heel and the cushioning really helped on good trail and even going through tough terrain like canyons, washouts and creek beds they felt really capable and never got in my way. I did some running in them and they do quite well, not as well as a true running shoe obviously. The extended heel definitely shines with a walking stride. The one place I haven't tried them is on steep off-trail mountain routes with scrambling, talus fields and such. I'm unsure how they would work, I feel like I would just grab my trusty Speedgoats or Torrents for that kind of terrain. The biggest downside is the use of Gore-Tex. I have no idea why people think it's a good idea for hiking shoes unless you hike somewhere your feet never get wet. I had to manage countless creek and river crossings, swamps, washouts, rain and wet weather. These shoes never came close to drying out, in fact when I got home after my trip it took two whole days for them to dry out sitting outside in the sun. Constant wet feet makes it a lot harder to manage blisters and other issues with your feet, especially when you are putting in big days.I bought my normal HOKA size and they fit well.I would absolutely give them 5 stars if they drained water and were made of a quicker drying material. I really hope HOKA starts offering some non-Gore Tex options in their hiking range.

Weird!

For $260 they should come with the clown suit they deserve. Yes, I bought them. Guilty. Comfortable? Yes. BUT, the wide platform makes you feel like you're wearing small snow shoes. The rear tail/spoiler has a Hoka disclaimer - don't use to drive with and careful using stairs. Driving was fine. Going down stairs was a disaster. Obey the operating instructions. If going down stairs is an issue, I imagine bouldering, or hiking in scree would be frustrating and dangerous with the rear of the sole constantly getting wedged between rocks or in brush. I've gone through two pairs of Kahas and I think they're a better, safer shoe. But like all Hokas, the soles wear out quickly. Worth every penny

I bought these a few months ago and have been waiting to write a review until I put these to test on a 2 week trip to Iceland which I just got back from. I wanted something lightweight with great traction and maximum comfort. This shoe exceeded every expectation and then some. On my trip I wore these every day and hiked no less than 7-10 miles per day in what I would consider extreme conditions. Snow, ice, rain, hail - you name it, I hiked on it in these shoes and they were literal life savers. It is so comfortable that it's almost hard to describe, feels like the shoe is energizing you forward. It is so comfortable that it's almost hard to describe, feels like the shoe is energizing you forward. I am just getting over a wicked battle with plantar fasciitis in my right foot and these shoes truly made my feet feel amazing after hiking up mountains in pretty wild conditions. Now, I've seen some reviews talking about the waterproofing. I work for a major outerwear company that sells tons of work boots and many consumers don't understand what a waterproof shoe actual means. It means that the shoe will hold off water up to a certain extent, but if you step in a foot of water over the laces, the shoe will obviously become wet. Since I was hiking in the rain and snow, I did take on a little water in the toe box but never so much to the point where I had swamp foot happening, just a littleMoisture. The material on the inside of the boot is meant to dry easily and I had no problem taking a blow dryer for about 30 seconds to dry them out after hiking on a glacier. The tread is incredible and the large heel makes it easy for walking on inclines and uneven surfaces. This might be the most I've ever spent on a single pair of shoes, but after putting them to the test I am happy to say that these are worth every penny.

YES!! Finally a waterproof pair of Hoka boots:)
5 March 2022

These boots are epic. Lightweight, flexible, comfortable right of the box, and the most cushion and shock absorption of any boot out on the market. I'm a UPS driver, so I know, ha. The only thing is there is a hot spot on one of the lace hook points that bothers me at times. I can skip it in the lace-up, using the other 2 and that seems to get rid of the discomfort. More padding on the inside of the boot under each of these hooks would alleviate this altogether. Hint, hint, design team. I should also mention the heel, lol. It looks funny, but in practical day to day use they are like other regular soles.Walking down steps is a little clumsy. Haven't taken them hiking yet to try out the heel feature, but will at some point. The mountains are about a 2 hr. drive. ... MoreThese boots are epic.
