I bought these because I needed something with arch support and comfy souls. When I put these on it was like walking on a cloud. I tried on several pairs from other brands before I tried these on. They were the last pair I tried on and walked out with them! My daughter borrowed them for lacrosse practice and fell in love with them. She now wants a pair of these. They’re breathable, supportive in all the right places and comfortable. Highly recommend.

I tried Clifton 8 & 9. I couldnt stand either one. I wear a sz 10. They were too narrow so I tried a wide took them home where I planned on just wearing on a treadmill. I couldnt stand it. After 30 minutes I had 2 blisters on my feet. I have high arches so there was a little more support but it was in the wrong spot. The arch in shoe was back too far and it rubbed a blister. My knees hurt and ankles. I couldn’t wait to get them off. I returned them and got talked into buying mens. I bought a sz 10 wide. Crazy. Got home started on treadmill and they were too big in the heel and just didnt fit right. I like the womens Bondis better but the wide was not really wide enough.

The shoe line I have been wearing for over 10 years has been the Asics Gel Kayano. However, with my arthritic knee, I wanted to try a shoe with better cushioning. I tried on both the new Asics Gel Nimbus 25 and the Hoka Clifton 9. The Hoka's felt more cushiony than the Gel nimbus (walking around the store), so I decided to give them a try, knowing that I had 90-days to see how well this worked for me. They felt great just standing in the shoes, but even on short, 2-mile, flat walks during the next 60 days I could feel pain every time I stepped. I was concerned that the heel to toe drop of 4mm might be tough to adjust to, especially coming from shoes that have a 10mm drop. I don't know if that was the source of the discomfort, but the pain never subsided. I returned ... MoreThe shoe line I have been wearing for over 10 years has been the Asics Gel Kayano. I think if you don't have any knee issues and are used to shoes with a 4-5mm drop, that these would work better for you. The cushioning was certainly very attractive in this Hoka shoe. It just didn't work for my knees.

I am not a runner. I only do occasional sprinting jogs but usually do past fitness walks. I am still searching for shoes that work best for me to avoid sore and achy feet/soles after lots of daily walking. As noted, loved the cushioning in the soles (felt like walking on pillows) but the Cliftons were too bulky for me. Can't the upper be reduced to eliminate weight? I don't know about other people, but I'm not looking for my foot to be encased in cushion, just looking for plenty of cushion under foot. I'd prefer minimal material for the upper part of the shoe. I returned these because although I loved the cushion I was not completely happy with them. I experienced a sprain injury to my 2nd toe while I was testing these out too. Hoka Clifton 9 are my walking for exercise shoes. This model & its predecessor, Clifton 8, are longer than previous versions. I sized 1/2 size down on the 9s and am glad I did. I have been ordering women's D (wide) and am happy with the extra room to keep a small bunion from growing.Note about the Black/Copper color: the black accent between the cloth and the white base give the illusion of a wider foot. If this is a concern, choose a different color combo.I rotate between Cliftons and Rincons. I like the lightness of the Rincons and wish they were available in wide. Both options have good cush and are comfy.
Iam a nurse who works 12 hour shifts and needed a comfortable and supportive shoe. Purchased pair clifton 9 two weeks ago. They have decent support which helped bottom of foot. However they are not soft and comfortable. They are very stiff and let me tell you they run small and narrow and purchased half soze larger than I normally wear. Typically shoes are big on my heel and upper foot but I need length. If your feet are wide at all these would not be for you. The shoes are rubbing too much against ankle and too of foot. Plus the toe is somewhat pointed leaving little room in the toe box. I am disappointed because I hear of many people who love their hokas. My husband too he wears the clufton 8. So clifton 9 was a mistake
These are my 5th pair of Cliftons and there definitely is a difference. The toe box feels roomier than the 8's did, but I didn't have that sink in, ultra-comfy, "Aaah"-like experience when I first put them on. There feels like there is more bounce to them, and that makes them definitely feel more responsive than the 7's or 8's did. My first run was four miles--I don't run any other pace besides slow--and while comfortable, they felt like they need to be broken in, which I didn't have to do with previous models. I still like them, though, and hopefully the more miles I put on them, the cushier they'll feel. For reference I am a 148lb female.
I'm an elite marathon runner and have been wearing Cliftons since 2016 and these are the best updated model! They are light and provide the perfect amount of cushioned support for a midfoot strike and toe transition. Just enough traction for road running, track, and light trails. Lasts well on long runs and also runs great when I pick up the pace on tempo runs. I bought 2 pairs to rotate so that they last longer. Be sure to walk around in them before your first run, they come a little stiff like most new shoes.
When I tried this shoe in the store, I was pretty happy with how comfortable the sole was. However, when I first used these shoes for an 8km run, it took quite a while for me to get used to it -- maybe because I have been using on running shoes for a long time so I wasn't used to how bouncy the cushion of this shoe was so my knees kinda hurt after a while from the impact of the gravel. To add on to that, the outer sole of my feet started hurting... thankfully the pain in my knees started to reduce after taking these shoes on a run for a couple of times but man, the outer sole of my feet still hurts a lot when I run (it's been 3 weeks) and I am not sure why this is so. I am not sure if it's because I am flat-footed but when I was in the store, they had recommended this pair of shoes after measuring my feet. What a bummer because I had wanted to use these shoes for my marathon in September but with the pain, I am just not so sure anymore
