I purchased these boots to wear for work as a duty boot. I dislocated my knee last year and my physiotherapist recommended something with more support since the weight of my gear was causing me discomfort as I transitioned back to work.I wear Hokas as a distance shoe for half marathon training and swear by them. Needless to say when I found out they made an all black hiking boot, I had to have them.If youāve worn Hoka before, you know they fit about a half size big. I found these to be true to size. I am normally an 8, but wear a 7.5 in most other styles of Hoka. Iām glad I went with the 8 on these.Toe box is wider than average, but not enough to call these āwideā. I have the Tor's from a few years back and love them, but they didn't have the Achilles tendon pad. My new job as a press operator is grueling in anything without a Hoka table on it. The first is fine, they fit just like the other Hoka's I've bought, I always buy them one size larger than I need because your feet swell during the day and by the end of the day they still feel great. I am going to order a pair of the lower shoes for spring/summer and hopefully they will be as comfortable as the boots. Thanks for making such a great product! I have linked your boots so often on Facebook, people probably think I have stock in the company!

**Posting again because HOKA keeps removing my review**Bought these to give it a try after hiking with the Tennine. I wanted something low to lessen the weight on my feet but also retain the ruggedness and waterproof-ness that the Tennine offered. The shoe was a complete miss.First off, had to go a full size down to get the proper fitting. The ride isn't as plushy as I thought it would and it's actually a bit hard. The toe box is a bit odd and I'm constantly getting blisters near the heel area (through all of my hikes, I wear merino wool socks). Only reason why it's two stars is that the waterproof-ness works as advertised. Super disappointed, going to try something else like the Altras.
My goal for purchase likely different than most here: in case this is helpful for anyone Iām sharing experience.Lapiplasty surgery 10/22. The surprise was having first metatarsal alignment corrected such that now I need padding in my shoe to make up for what my foot currently lacks (and will hopefully regain over time). I have Hoka running shoes, Altras, Birkenstocks, all helpful- but end of day, slightly limping again (Iām an RN), wearing to work, and dog walking on MI unpaved muddy pathways.Tried several arch supports, helpful, but still difficult at end of day. Finally, able to comfortably walk distance again. I needed ankle support, padding in shoes, as well as the support of the boot. Feel like Iām walking on super soft comfy Cush. Only minor issues getting them on in the AM: positioning tongue under laces, this is not my first choice for a work shoe in a health care setting but you can hose them off end of day: same w the clay, mud, snow slurry that we walk thru. Most Iāve walked is 8 miles easy terrain, so canāt really speak to distance or climbing experience. I tried several other hiking boots at REI and these were my favorite by far. Iāve never spent so much money on a pair of shoes before, relieved they are meeting my needs. Recommended to all healing from bunion surgery!
At first, I wasn't sure when trying them on but felt like they would be good shoes so I bought them in black. I wore them once to work and felt pretty good and thought these were comfortable and would be great for short distances, more of a rugged footwear. I started to really like them. I wore them again and like them even more. I just wore them the other day for a 4 mile hike on paved walk, in the woods that had some ice, snow, and semi-frozen terrain. Definitely not smoot asphalt. They held up great, super comfortable for a trail hiking shoe, great combination of leather and gore tex.I read a couple reviews that stated they would not stay on or came off the heel and perhaps that's true for the particular person, but from my experience that should not happen and ...Ā MoreAt first, I wasn't sure when trying them on but felt like they would be good shoes so I bought them in black. Use the extra eyelet and snug those puppies up and you have a secure, comfortable fit. They are quickly becoming one of my favorite pair of Hoka's. I own the Mach 5 (2 pr), Challenger ATR6, Bondi 8, Speedgoat 5 (2 pr), Clifton 8 and these Kaha's. LOVE THEM! I am looking adding more to my collection. If you looking at these, try them on using the type of socks you plan to wear, lace them up and cinch them snug. I also treat every pair with waterproof spray that is friendly for all materials.Whatever shoe you chose, treat your feet right as they are important and you will be happy you did.Happy Trails!
These boots have been a godsend for me. After really struggling with my first pair of hiking boots, I went on a mission to find the perfect pair. I tried on every brand REI sells and read hundreds of reviews. Let me tell you -- these are the most comfortable hiking boots I have ever worn. I never even had to break them in. They were as comfortable on hike one as they are about 50 hikes later.Pros: (1) They're so comfortable. It feels like wearing a sneaker. I have never had foot pain in these, even after 10+ mile days. (2) They're quite breathable. I tend to get sweaty feet and while these don't fix that problem, my feet don't swell and get super hot in them. (3) The ankle support is great. I love the laces and am able to secure my ankles as tightly or as loosely as I want, depending on the terrain and how long I'm going for. (4) They've really helped my back pain while hiking. I have an old back injury that tends to flair up while hiking, particularly when carrying a heavier pack or going over loose terrain. These boots have helped me so much. I have so much less pain the next day, even if I was carrying my full backpacking pack.Cons: (1) The price. I got these on sale and had a gift card, but they're definitely an investment piece. I would definitely recommend trying them before buying. (2) They're clunky. My boyfriend likes to call them my moon boots because they're so big. They're heavier than some hiking boots, but I actually don't notice the weight while hiking. I'm a little clumsy however, so i do occasionally trip if I don't pick my feet up enough, since they're big boots. This also means that they would take up a LOT of room if you had to pack them.Overall, I think these boots are absolutely worth 5 stars, even with the cons. I cannot recommend them enough.
I have been struggling, finding hiking boots that give me support and are comfortable in the toebox. After chatting with service, I was advised to buy these Kaha2. Most comfortable hiking shoes I have ever worn. I have kept them on for 12 hours a day almost 4 days in a row, out of the box. I love them. They will be providing me great comfort on the trails in Sedona and the Grand Canyon! I believe this is my ninth pair of Hokas, and may be my favorite so far, because I did not expect them to be so comfortable. hats off to service, for advising that the particular style was made for wider feet. By the way, I also took a chance with one size up, and I am convinced that has also helped quite a bit, even though my other eight pairs are a size lower and feel perfectly ...Ā MoreI have been struggling, finding hiking boots that give me support and are comfortable in the toebox. I bought these for a December trip to Iceland and was mainly looking for great support, comfort, and water resistance. We hiked uneven terrain with multiple inclines, rode horses, went ATVing, and walked around a city. All around great shoe! I have a severe pronation and my feet did not hurt the entire 10 days. We also crossed several shallow rivers and I was impressed that these shoes held up to being waterproof. The only thing I wasn't pleased with is how my feet slid forward with big toes experiencing slight discomfort when hiking down a mountain with a steep grade, but also partially my fault for not stopping to adjust the laces...was tired and didn't want to lose momentum. I still give the boot 5 stars.
These boots are great for the conditions of my winter - lots of wet sloppy snow and icy arctic cold. The boot waterproof, has a wide enough toe box for a heavier sock that keeps my toes warm to -10F when hiking and as long as I am moving. (Though, I doubt they would stay warm if I was ice fishing or some other cold weather, outdoor activity where I'm standing around or sitting). I would be happy to see this boot come in a wide with for high instep and wider foot like mine so I could wear a super heavy sock. I do wear cramp-ons with them on slick icy trails. Arch support is good. Heal cushion is great. Lightweight and great for hiking year-round from -10F to +65F. I haven't tried them out in warmer weather.
