I love this boot. I have really sensitive feet. Bone spurs on heals and top of feet. I have tried and returned all kinds of different hiking boots and brands and they all have something that hurts my feet. Either the laces or the tongue or the heel, etc. This Boot is perfect. I have a straight normal width foot and i am like a 12.5 - 13 shoe size. I always get the 13 with sole heat mold-able insoles (Thick version). They seam to compliment to boot and fill up a little volume to make them perfect. I don't use the sole insoles in all my shoes as they seam like to much arch support and i don't like the feeling of having rigid arches under my feet, but the sole insoles work perfect in these boots!

This is my third pair of Tor Ultras. I thought these were no longer available, couldn't track them down anywhere, then I realized it's just the old "regular" colors (oranges/blues/etc) that are not! Took me a while to figure out that the boot is still being made, just in these service style colors, and so glad I did. For a boot that works this good, the color matters very little to me. Went with the olive since I'm using them on dusty So Cal trails, and they're great. They feel a bit wider than the last ones I had, which for me is a bonus due to my wider foot, toe box in these is real comfortable, not as wide as Hoka's "wide", but more than their regular fit shoes. I just hope these don't go extinct, probably going to pick up another pair while I can, just in case.

I wear these for all occasions. I really have no choice as I have "Hallux Rigidus" (stiff big toes from abuse). Stiff toe is what happens when you squish a size 13 foot into size 12 shoes for most of you life because size 12 was the largest size available. So I need an extra large amount of space to accommodate my enlarged (bone spurs) around the big toe base. My original tan pair is now 3 years old and I can still wear them. However, I have since backed them up with the same Hoka Tor High top in every color available. Why are these the best shoe ever designed? For one they were like stepping into pillows. Oddly, my recent taupe pair felt harder, but still the best! I need that stiffer sole to prevent my big toes from flexing as they cannot. Second, these have the ... Oddly, my recent taupe pair felt harder, but still the best! I need that stiffer sole to prevent my big toes from flexing as they cannot. Second, these have the laces extend into the toe box. My only complaint about the other Hoka's is they do not have Altra's toe box nor this extended lacing. The extended lacing permits me a custom fit in the toe box to something larger and thereby taking the pressure off of my enlarged big toes. I was just to REI trying normal height shoes on. My two choices were the Altra Paridigm 4.5 and the Hoka Bondi. Altras have too flexible of a sole for me, but the Paridigm is their highest stack and least flexible. The Bondi sole was great!, but the big toe box did not have the extended lacing and was pinned by some leather like lasting. The perfect shoe would be the Paridigm upper on the Bondi sole - hint hint to Hoka!!! Needless to say, putting back on my brand new Hoka Tor High Tops Taupe again felt much better, so maybe not that much harder a sole then the originals. I guess I will continue to wear nothing but these hiking boots everyday forever. Please keep manufacturing them!!!!
My wife found the TOR by accident at a store in Jackson hole Wyoming during the fall. We had never paid any attention to the brand but they had her size on sale so she gave them a shot We are backpackers and hikers and have worn the Salomon quest 4D for years. Very reliable boots. One of her first hikes was up around mount rainier and she would always say "it's like walking on clouds" I eventually bought a pair of the challengers to try them out. Really nice. Then I found the TOR Ultra Hi2 in my size and thought I'd give them a shot At first I couldn't get my heel to stay out but then I used the double eyelet that the shoes have halfway up and it solved my problem. The durability still is yet to be determined since they are pretty new. The one thing I do miss and is a feature on the solomona is the first wrap around hook. The solomons first hook will hold the lace in position. I do find that when I'm walking downhill using rocks as steps that I am using my toes first instead of landing on my heels which is a little harder on the back. I'm hoping that with these shoes my pace will be a little better. They are nice and lite for sure. Just need to see how they hold up against the solomons
Other than needing to replace the stock insole with a Dr. Whatever insole this boot is the best I've worn for my bad back and knees. Arch is pretty high and I have flat feet so took a while to break them in but so worth it. Waterproof is still going strong and tested about daily. So comfy it gives me an extra hour or two of work a day on my feet. Hikes good. With all the cushion it is a little unstable laterally on a side hill but not much and what you get from that extra cushion height makes the boot feel like you're walking on clouds, totally worth the trade. Not a boot for heavy backpack loads but the best light hiking boot I've ever worn. Because of design it doesnt pinch when kneeling or hiking uphill. Cant say enough good things, yeah it's still a boot so it ... MoreOther than needing to replace the stock insole with a Dr. Whatever insole this boot is the best I've worn for my bad back and knees. I work in a men's prison and must walk and stand all day on concrete. I have the Hoka Mafate Speed shoes and love them. Winter is here and I needed some boots. I got the Tor Ultra Hi Waterproof because we can get a lot of snow here at times. I wanted the simply taupe color, but it was sold out so I went with the burnt olive color in a men's size 8 so there would be enough room for wool socks. I was a little worried about them being too big, but I was assured by customer service that I could wear them (to work!) for 30 days and if I didn't like them I could return or exchange them.....how can you go wrong with a guarantee like that?? I only had to wear them one day to know they were keepers! I put a running shoe insole in them to take up some of the extra room and ... I put a running shoe insole in them to take up some of the extra room and have worn them with Woolrich ski socks and they are a dream come true! I have 8 pair of work shoes and rotate them every day to keep the shoes fresh and because I read somewhere that it's better for your feet to not wear the same shoes every day. When it's a TOR ULTRA HI day I always walk into work with a big grin on my face! It hasn't snowed heavily yet, but I am looking forward to seeing how these handle 6" of snow. I am already shopping for next spring's shoes! This is my third pair of Hoka One One and definitely will not be my last!
I will literally buy 5 pairs of this boot as soon as they are available in black 11.5. They are the only boot on earth that feels good on my feet with hallux rigidis. Every time I put them on it feels like slipping into a well-worn, custom-fit baseball glove. It's a beautiful thing. I loved them so much I bought an extra pair last year but I need to stock up on more because I am planning to wear this model for the rest of my life. Please for the love of everything beautiful in this world bring them back. I've recommended them to several people who can't buy them because they aren't available anymore. Thanks!
I bought these to try out for a 650 mile Ireland thru-hike in June 2019. I have a pair of Hoka running shoes so when I saw the boots, I thought I'd try them out. I've been using them for training hikes (with a pair of SuperFeet insoles), and I initially planned on only putting about 50 miles on them before my Ireland hike. Nope. It's to the point that I wear them on every hike, and will just buy a new pair if I have to. They're that nice. I use trail runners ALWAYS when I hike. Used Inov-8's on my PCT thru, and Salomon's on the 3 Peaks Challenge. Not a fan of boots. But these don't feel like a boot. Zero break in period. The ride is insanely comfortable. The 4mm drop isn't even noticeable. Stable, and the sole grips really well on rocks, dirt, scree, even granite & ... MoreI bought these to try out for a 650 mile Ireland thru-hike in June 2019. The 4mm drop isn't even noticeable. Stable, and the sole grips really well on rocks, dirt, scree, even granite & wet rock. I was surprised, honestly. The height of the sole didn't affect stability whatsoever - another surprise. I squeezed in a quick 10 miles last night, and was thinking what a pleasure it is to walk in these. Construction is solid. Design is thoughtful & definitely informed towards a hiker's needs. I could see these lasting over the usual 500-600 a thru hiker gets from their trail runners. Of my two biggest drawbacks, one is functional and the other is aesthetic. Hoka...only black?? Not a dealbreaker, obviously, but why only black? V 1.0 came in a brown...c'monnnnnn. Love us back with a brown again! The functional: waterproofing. I bought the boot anyway, hoping it wasn't a water-retaining sweatbox. So far, pleasantly surprised, but I haven't hiked in 85+ degree temps for 20-30+ miles a day yet either. If Hoka would offer their hikers in non-waterproof models as well, I'd wear them on any thru: PCT, AT, CDT, Te Arora, AZT, Pinhote, you name it. After the thru of Ireland, I'll come back and update with how it performed & held up. Initial thoughts are that it's a great shoe, very glad I bought it. @FreedomPanda
Unique shoes - holding them in your hands they feel like a modern pair of basketball shoes: very light, but with solid structure. But the lug vibram soles identify these clearly as hikers. Putting them on, they weren't as plush as I was expecting based on reviews I've read, but they are comfortable. I have a very narrow foot - in fact, I've never gotten a pair of shoes I consider too narrow, but these are very close. The toe area could use just a little bit more room, and the widest part of my foot (outside) presses against the side of the shoe noticeably - but being brand new, I'm guessing these will wear in and settle a bit. Hope so! I really like these shoes, and want them to be effective hikers. Lacing them up is pretty satisfying, the high top really hugs the ... Hope so! I really like these shoes, and want them to be effective hikers. Lacing them up is pretty satisfying, the high top really hugs the ankle, and the stability feels solid throughout the shoe. They also feel like they prop you up at least an inch, which is different - not sure what to say about this. The insole that comes with the shoe is removable, and (predictably) unimpressive. I put in some superfeet bronze insoles, and while this made the shoe pretty tight fitting (could be a good thing as they wear in), the discomfort around the outside of my foot almost completely went away - not sure how an insole can make such an immediate difference, but no complaints! They do make a good first impression, and I really hope that lasts! -- fyi the mark down to 4/5 would be for the ultra narrow fit and cheap insole. Though I like these shoes there is no way I could recommend them to anyone else due to how narrow they are.
