Comfortable for Hiking!

I bought these because I usually wear a hiking boot for the trail. I wanted something that would feel comfortable but give me confidence on dirt/sandy/rocky trails. I took these for their first real bits of hiking at Zion and Bryce Canyon NP. They've performed well and I really happy about how comfortable they are. Plus now they have a nice little layer of red dust on them from Utah to bring back to California. I like the quick lacing system that comes with them and have stored the traditional laces in a drawer and doubt I will ever use them. I'd always had my eye on some Hokas after wearing Columbia or Merrell boots. I love them and would recommend them. Put em on your fee and find out.

I saw these new Hoka’s as I was walking away from the shoe department and planning to buy online my regular Bondi 8’s (I’ve had 4 pairs). The REI sales guy said the Vibram sole would last longer, though I’ve only had the shoes 1 1/2 months and the outer edge seems to be wearing down quickly, which makes me question the longevity of this expensive shoe.I do like the quick elastic closures rather than shoelaces. The sales guy told me there were only 2 colors but after I purchased them I went online myself and found there were more colors available. If I had known I would have purchased a darker color than the gray as they get dirty easily. But they seem as cushy as my other Hoka’s, for the most part.

I bought these a month ago before my trip to Japan. I was satisfied with them when I was wearing them in the US because I was wearing them only for a few hours at a time and not doing a lot of walking. However, I have been wearing them every day in Tokyo, 15,000+ steps a day, and they are rubbing on the outside of my toe box. I do not have wide feet at all, my feet are very normally sized. I do not have bunions. I expected better from Hoka. I’m perplexed why this style is so narrow. I really wanted to like these after having heard such great things about the brand from others. The style is so cute and I love the drawstring closure but I am disappointed in the comfort.

Great shoes
25 March 2024

Last year I bought a pair of the black for a spring trip to the pacific northwest. It rained at least part of each day and these were great shoes. They felt secure on ferry docs and busses, didn't get soaked through, and just really enjoyable for my primary shoe for the trip.So this year I got the blue pair for a trip to Southern California. We didn't quite get between rainstorms so again I had to deal with a combination of surfaces in wet and dry conditions. We also added cycling to the trip this year. Again they held up very well.I've gotten the same size as the Cliftons I wear for my daily walks at home and haven't noticed any squeaking except when I'm transitioning from the wet outdoors to polished linoleum.

Not what I was hoping for
4 September 2024

I wanted to like these but was ultimately disappointed. They were very clunky and felt like I had flippers on. They aren't very heavy, just bulky and I don't think changing size would have made a difference. My toe was in the right spot, but the sides kept collapsing when walking (maybe too wide). The foot bed was comfortable though. I was glad they included normal shoe-strings because the pull tabs are horrible. I could see maybe using these for everyday walking around, but not for long distance walking (which is what I was looking for). I was also disappointed in the "eggnog" color. It is much more yellow-ish than it shows in the pictures (on my computer). Very satisfied with -and grateful for- Beans return policy.

So squeaky, so uncomfortable.
4 September 2024

What a bummer! Wore these around Norway and squeaked with every aching step. These were not comfy. Not sure if the lace system made them unstable on my foot...not sure if there's less cushion or support on these bad boys, but wow I hated them. My feet hurt after a day of walking, which is not something I usually (ever) struggle with. Swapped to my hiking boots b/c I couldn't bear these. FWIW I have a high arch but again, never really suffer from sore feet. And holy cow these things squeak. I tried EVERYTHING to make it stop. These are going back. This is why I buy from REI <3

Squeaky shoes-sad
3 May 2024

I love the look of these shoes and up until about two days ago, I was LOVING them! I suffer from back pain and I was hoping this would help. At first they did!!! Still better than any other shoes. I am in my feet all day and stand on hard hard floors. But then, they started to squeak. I guess there is some friction or something but for over $100 I am a little frustrated. I had bean bucks that helped me save some on the cost. Now I either have to fix the squeak somehow or look for another pair of shoes. I only wore them a few weeks now. I give them a 3 for looks and comfort. Disappointed in the squeak. I hate the squeak!!!

Super comfortable but the quick toggle laces snapped
29 January 2024

I really enjoyed these shoes for the first few months I had them! The quick toggle laces are super nice since they make fastening laces very quick. The only reason I took off a couple of stars is that the quick toggle laces snapped after about 6-7 months. (I do walk a decent amount but not a ton + I will rotate shoes). It's nice that HOKA includes traditional laces, but I mainly bought these shoes because of the quick toggle feature. Also, the cost of the shoes is quite high, so it's frustrating that the laces did not even last 1 year. Signs of wear are also much more prominent on these shoes than on other HOKAs shoes.

Time to Buy a Pair of Hokas!
31 December 2023

I haven't actually bought a pair of Hokas yet, but I'm about to because over the years I've developed a lot of knee, back, and foot problems and have worn seemingly endless pairs of tennis shoes from various lines. These have all seemed to help for a while but have never made me feel like I could wear them all day without even thinking about wanting or needing to take them off.Over the past year, I've been through a lot of physical therapy to help me recover from my right knee being replaced. Just before that I had done a lot of PT for arthritis and bulging discs in my back. During that time I repeatedly noticed that my therapists would be wearing Hokas. When I would ask about them, without fail, they all said it was the best tennis shoe they'd ever worn...that ... MoreI haven't actually bought a pair of Hokas yet, but I'm about to because over the years I've developed a lot of knee, back, and foot problems and have worn seemingly endless pairs of tennis shoes from various lines. When I would ask about them, without fail, they all said it was the best tennis shoe they'd ever worn...that they could wear them all day without any problem at all. During the past year I ran into lots of random people at doctor's offices, etc., wearing Hokas. Whenever I'd ask about their Hoka experience, they'd usually say something like they wouldn't buy any other shoe again. Basically, as a retired high school teacher who used to have to stand on my feet for 8 hours five days weekly until I'd torn up my knees so badly that the principal agreed to allow me to wear nice tennis shoes to work the last few years of my career. I was very fortunate some decent Skechers had come out (and others) that I would wear. But those days are behind me. After the New Year's holiday, I'll be going to a local sporting goods store where I've located a pair or two of Hokas that I plan to give a good home!😎

Very Comfortable Shoes
26 September 2024

I usually wear size 6.5 shoes but I bought these in size 7. I bought these in person so I got to try both sizes . I am a nurse who’s on my feet at least 7 hours a day at work and my feet swells so I got it a half a size larger and also to accommodate thicker socks. These pair of shoes are one of the most comfortable shoes I ever had ! It feels like I’m walking on clouds. Seriously!! I also like those unconventional ties as it is like a hiking shoes and it is adjustable! Some other brand of shoes I had , made the top of my foot in pain after wearing it for 3 hours! These shoes did not!
