These are the best shoes I've ever owned and I have experimented a lot. As much as I prefer the look of the traditional one piece leather boot, these just function better. They are supportive yet flexible, light (for a boot), breath well enough and don't overheat my feet, are easy to get on and off, and have excellent traction. These now serve as my hiking boot, stay warm and waterproof shoe, and have evolved into my daily shoe for most things which I never expected.I bought a 1/2 size up from my usual Hoka running shoe size to accommodate wool socks and am glad I did.My only complaint is that the tongue is too short, so the laces tend to creep over the top.Hoka and REI are the best.

I bought the Hoka Men's Kaha 2 GTX "Hiking Boots" on the basis of my great experiences with my everyday Hoka walking/hiking shoes, which have been wonderful. The boots though have been a big disappointment. The good features first: they are just as comfortable as the shoes up to where the boot top begins. The Vibram soles are fantastic - good combination of cushioning, stability, and grip on slippery surfaces. Things go wrong about five inches from the ground where the shoe becomes a boot. Others have already noted that the tongue is about 3/4" too short, making the uppermost lacing lugs difficult to use because the laces tend to ride up over the top of the tongue. Because of this, I lace them only as far as the second lugs from the top, which are 1 1/2" from the ...Ā MoreI bought the Hoka Men's Kaha 2 GTX "Hiking Boots" on the basis of my great experiences with my everyday Hoka walking/hiking shoes, which have been wonderful. Because of this, I lace them only as far as the second lugs from the top, which are 1 1/2" from the top of the boot. The most serious problem is the poor construction of the tongue itself. First, the tongue is too narrow, and the gusset that connects the boot to the tongue to keep out snow and water only extends 5" from the ground. If you're hiking in deep snow or hard rain, you will likely get snow or water coming in between the boot sides and the skinny tongue, above the insufficient gusset. The narrow tongue doesn't seal the boot against the elements as much as I'd like it to. The tongue is also thin and flimsy, with only a narrow, sort of triangular piece of nubuck on its outer surface. That piece of nubuck is 2" tall and 1" wide at bottom, widening to 2 1/4" at the top. If I lace the boots reasonably snug, the laces dig into my ankles, especially when hiking uphill. Loosening the laces considerably relieves this pressure and discomfort, but makes the boot top more floppy. These boots are simply not made for hiking on hilly trails or in deep snow. It feels and looks like Hoka rushed these boots into production without field-testing them. I really hope they will re-design the boot tops so they function the way good hiking boots should.

I was looking for a boot that would replace my older boot that I used for fishing and hiking to my fishing spots. Read the reviews and some made me leery but decided to buy it anyhow. Man, are these boots comfortable. I used them hiking across rocks, some ice, and snow. They were great and very comfortable. Stepped in some water as well and my feet stayed dry. The large sole construction, outer and midsole really made these boots feel like a comfortable tennis/basketball shoe, rather than a traditional boot. Toe box was comfy and these seem to be a true to size fitting boot. No break-in was needed and they were comfortable out of the box and my feet were not sore after a full day in the boots.Iām thinking of buying another pair, just so I can have them once my new ...Ā MoreI was looking for a boot that would replace my older boot that I used for fishing and hiking to my fishing spots. Great boot and well made but just not for me. The heel cup is very narrow and caused me issues on the inside of my heels which is not where I would typically get hotspots or blisters and after only a three mile tryout walk on flat ground. The heel cup seems cut pretty low. I suspect hills would have really done some damage. Sadly I will be returning these and getting another brand, likely Salomans, in a wide because Hoka does not make their boots in a wide which is a shame.
I waited until I had about 60 miles on these shoes before writing this review. I wouldnāt have really needed to wait as they were great right out of the box.I liked that it came in a wide size so my toe box is plenty roomy.I did have a pinch on top of my left foot from the shoe tongue. I had to fidget around with the laces a bit to get the fit right. In the end, they are the best shoes Iāve ever had. I had to go shopping after a 6 mile hike and my feet were like walking on a cloud on cement. I felt like I could stand in these shoes all day.The back tread on the shoe comes in mighty handy on steep downhills too.Would have given them a five star if I hadnāt had to dink around with left foot issues and the Hefty price tag.Overall Iām feeling like they are gonna be ...Ā MoreI waited until I had about 60 miles on these shoes before writing this review. I was excited to finally see what the hype was all about, so I jumped ship and got these Kaha 2 GTX. I Hiked 21 miles on the first outing and the boots performed as I expected on the trail. Great cushion, good rebound from the soles and I didnāt suffer any foot fatigue. 2nd Outing was 17 miles and I felt that the cushion and confirm was no longer there. Huge disappointment was when I looked at the lugs on the bottom of the soles. Afyer two hikes and finding them to be already almost bald.I returned them and going back with La Sportiva.
I hiked in these boots several times on a recent trip to Costa Rica. They were extremely comfortable and easily handled the various conditions in which they were used. They kept dry in the rain, provided terrific traction when descending and helped maintain footing on loose rocks. No break-in was necessary; the soft nubuck leather conformed to my feet like gloves. I had my last pair of hiking boots for over 10 years, but based my experience with these so far, Hoka would be the first brand I would try when I'm ready for my next ones.
Most comfortable hiking boot Iāve owned of probably 10 pair from lightweight to heavy. Havenāt worn them on the trail yet but been wearing them daily for two weeks. Everyday like walking on a cloud. Sturdy though. Stable. Certain they will last and not break down any time soon. Sturdy, metal boot laces hooks, 3 on each side. Great mid-height ankle support. Extra eyelets for a tighter fit if needed. Fit like gloves. Love āem!!
Just got back from Rock Mountain National Park CO. Have been in Hokas for years now, since about 2012, used to run marathons. These are fairly stable on rocks, or uneven terrain. Made it up to about 700 shy of the summit of Longs Peak...Not the best choice for technical terrain because of the subpar sense of feel due to the fat soles...but most hokas are the same deal. You sacrifice stability and feel for cushion. After logging around 5000 vertical and around 30 miles in 3 days my feet feel fresher than the day I left. No break in period, just go. One hot spot on inside of ankle next to one of the speed hooks, loosened laces somewhat solved the issue...
I purchased these and then read a review on REI, so had my doubts. Then I actually wore them! For me, size 13D, 6ā1ā, 185 lbs., theyāre extremely comfortable. I got them for an upcoming backpacking trip, and wanted something lightweight but able to provide support with a 30 pound backpack, on varied terrain. So far I am completely sold! The toe box is perfect for me. The footbed is appropriately firm but at the same time anything but hard or rigid. I love the lacing hooks, find them easy to lace and adjust.
