Once you get it on (needs a pull tab on heel), this is the most comfortable super shoe I've tried. The upper fit is immaculate and there's no weird arch (alphafly) or bulbous forefoot (metaspeed sky+), or ill-fitting ankle (adidas pro 3). The cushion and geometry works beautifully to give you a rolling but fun and bouncy ride with excellent response and stability. Shines at marathon pace and faster but is also excellent for uptempo long runs. My first two runs were 11mi and 15mi, no problem; no break-in needed. This is THE racer for runners who want to feel fast without the mechanical or unstable feel of many other similar shoes. Expect to see ... This shoe should have been renamed, as the OG Rocket X was a completely different shoe that I did not get along with. The OG rocket was a lower stack, firmer EVA midsole. This is a higher stack PEBA based midsole with tons of bounce and a nice step-in squish. On the run the rebound is great. I never felt like I was digging out of the midsole, which is sometimes the case as a larger runner. My first run in these I took them for a 10-mile interval workout. The easy paces were bouncy and fun and I didn't notice any instability at easy paces. I'm a midfoot striker but I usually like to heel strike for a bit in a new shoe to see how it feels, as I do start to heel strike at the end of longer runs, and the instability went up just a tiny bit, but not a deal breaker. I like to wear these shoes when I walk, and I have noticed an increase in my speed due to the bounce that you get with these shoes. I am slated for knee surgery in the future, but wearing the shoes I have not had any issues with my knees when I walk or run. Prior to ordering these shoes I ordered a different pair of Hoka One shoes, and they were enormous. I returned them, but could not get an exchange because they were sold out. I ordered these shoes in a smaller size and they were too small. I exchanged them and ordered the exact same size that I ordered in the other shoe and they fit ... I was not overly optimistic heading into the race, as I made a few strength training mistakes (added too much weight too soon) and had to scrap a few of my speed workouts in the weeks leading up to the race. I even had to skip a 14-mile long run so I wasn't feeling too confident about my training. I was able to get in a solid 10-miler (with 4 at race pace) a week before so that helped my confidence a bit. Long story short, I beat my February half marathon PR by 54 seconds. And if I wasn't forced to walk and settle down after I thrice choked on my Maurten gels during the race, I may have shaved another minute or ... I'm amazed with this super shoe , Hoka has finally made a super bouncy, fun and comfortable shoe to compete with the other super super shoe companies. I love the bounce effect, the cushioning and the stack are all super good but I agree with some other comments the heal counter and what's supposed to be a heal cup is the absolute worst I've ever seen on a running shoe and I've seen a lot in my 50 years of running and competing. I feel so much slipping and sliding from the back of my heal , Achilles tendon area when I run in these shoes. I have not had a blister yet from it but I know if I try and do a long long run it will happen unfortunately. Not sure what Hoka was thinking with the heal counter on this new super shoe. I have done a 5 and 10mile run in the Rocket X2. I have worn a handful of other carbon plated shoes (multiple Nike's, New Balance, Saucony).What I like: super responsive, felt bouncy just walking in them. I have a normal width foot and felt I had more room than other super shoes I've run in. I am a mid-foot striker and felt the Rocket X2 were best during a faster, tempo run. Definitely a racer, not something I would wear for longer, slower runs.Don't like so much: Tread is not very good off pavement. Flat, hardback dirt surface had me slipping a little when I released so these are pavement only for me. The sweet spot for the plate was a little towards my toes for my liking but not a deal breaker.
