I am a 51 year old active woman whom has had surgery from the same broken ankle three times in my life. This has left me with pain in my ankle with EVERY hiking boot I have owned. Whether it be pressure from the boot, rubbing in the wrong spot, toe numbness or just plain not enough support. I was a bit shocked at the register when I bought these hiking boots for Zion this year. Although, it has been worth the sticker price!!! Let me just tell you...I have never experienced a better fit with zero pain after several difficult hikes. On multiple different types of terrain. We did the narrows twice within three days. The constant angles of big rocks and different angles of my ankle weren't even a thought at the time. These hikers were amazing with the water submersion ...Ā MoreI am a 51 year old active woman whom has had surgery from the same broken ankle three times in my life. I wore these for the first time on a challenging 10-miler and they were great. But I did have a concern that I wonder if anyone else shares. I wore gaiters which have an elastic strap that goes under the boot and fits snugly in the trough. However, I tripped twice because one shoe caught the gaiter strap of the other shoe. I checked to see and all lace hooks were under the gaiter, so it wasn't the hooks. Perhaps it caught on the edge of the sole or even the lace hole that is right below the lowest hook? Anyone else have that experience? Any thoughts or suggestions? Kinda scary until I can figure out what caused it. Otherwise, the boot is exactly what I am looking for. I would have recommended them but I can't until I get some answers on this.

I bought these for walks with my dog in the fall and winter. They keep my feet 100% dry and warm in puddles and snow. The sole is great, because it has a really secure contact with the ground. Plus they match my black dog, black coat, and black leather gloves (handmade in Italy š).I considered these for some time, because I have plantar fasciitis and heel spurs. Everything about this product would make you believe it's going to offer the most incredible experience. Looks sharp, feels solid, and conveys a tough & rugged package. However, when put to the test (~90 miles across Isle Royale National Park), I was left with destroyed feet and lost three toe nails. The one positive I'll offer is this shoe/boot certainly offers ankle support; I easily could've ripped my ankle apart on several occasions, and fortunately that never happened. But the toe box was horrendous, the GORE-TEX waterproofing not only failed--it trapped water inside the boot, and the heel material (foam-like) was shredded apart within the first 3 miles of true rocky terrain. I considered uploading a photo/video of either the shoe or my toes, but decided not to ...Ā MoreEverything about this product would make you believe it's going to offer the most incredible experience. I considered uploading a photo/video of either the shoe or my toes, but decided not to subject anyone to that misery. Ultimately, I was left extremely disappointed, and severely concerned about how a hiking shoe at this price-point could perform so poorly. I'd request a refund if time hadn't lapsed, and strongly suggest avoiding this product--unless your intention is to wear these anywhere else but trails.
My goal for purchase likely different than most here: in case this is helpful for anyone Iām sharing experience.Lapiplasty surgery 10/22. The surprise was having first metatarsal alignment corrected such that now I need padding in my shoe to make up for what my foot currently lacks (and will hopefully regain over time). I have Hoka running shoes, Altras, Birkenstocks, all helpful- but end of day, slightly limping again (Iām an RN), wearing to work, and dog walking on MI unpaved muddy pathways.Tried several arch supports, helpful, but still difficult at end of day. Finally, able to comfortably walk distance again. I needed ankle support, padding in shoes, as well as the support of the boot. Feel like Iām walking on super soft comfy Cush. Only minor issues getting them on in the AM: positioning tongue under laces, this is not my first choice for a work shoe in a health care setting but you can hose them off end of day: same w the clay, mud, snow slurry that we walk thru. Most Iāve walked is 8 miles easy terrain, so canāt really speak to distance or climbing experience. I tried several other hiking boots at REI and these were my favorite by far. Iāve never spent so much money on a pair of shoes before, relieved they are meeting my needs. Recommended to all healing from bunion surgery!
These boots have been a godsend for me. After really struggling with my first pair of hiking boots, I went on a mission to find the perfect pair. I tried on every brand REI sells and read hundreds of reviews. Let me tell you -- these are the most comfortable hiking boots I have ever worn. I never even had to break them in. They were as comfortable on hike one as they are about 50 hikes later.Pros: (1) They're so comfortable. It feels like wearing a sneaker. I have never had foot pain in these, even after 10+ mile days. (2) They're quite breathable. I tend to get sweaty feet and while these don't fix that problem, my feet don't swell and get super hot in them. (3) The ankle support is great. I love the laces and am able to secure my ankles as tightly or as loosely ...Ā MoreThese boots have been a godsend for me. I love the laces and am able to secure my ankles as tightly or as loosely as I want, depending on the terrain and how long I'm going for. (4) They've really helped my back pain while hiking. I have an old back injury that tends to flair up while hiking, particularly when carrying a heavier pack or going over loose terrain. These boots have helped me so much. I have so much less pain the next day, even if I was carrying my full backpacking pack.Cons: (1) The price. I got these on sale and had a gift card, but they're definitely an investment piece. I would definitely recommend trying them before buying. (2) They're clunky. My boyfriend likes to call them my moon boots because they're so big. They're heavier than some hiking boots, but I actually don't notice the weight while hiking. I'm a little clumsy however, so i do occasionally trip if I don't pick my feet up enough, since they're big boots. This also means that they would take up a LOT of room if you had to pack them.Overall, I think these boots are absolutely worth 5 stars, even with the cons. I cannot recommend them enough.
I bought these boots specifically for the high cushioning for backpacking because I have had problems with foot pain in other boots. The cushioning was fine, but the tongue design on these boots was a big problem for me. The tongue just barely comes to the top of the boot, so if you lace your boots all the way up to the top as I do it's hard to keep the laces from coming over the top of the tongue onto your ankle. The padding on the tongue is also not uniform - too thin on the sides at the top which caused a painful pressure bruise between the front of my ankle and to edge of the tongue. I have worn a number of different brands of hiking boots, and I have never encountered this problem before.I have loved the many pairs of Hoka Speedgoats I have bought for trail ...Ā MoreI bought these boots specifically for the high cushioning for backpacking because I have had problems with foot pain in other boots. For me these boots need some redesign of the tongue to make them comfortable. I had to return mine.
I love my Hoka tennis shoes so much, as an avid hiker/backpacker I decided to give these boots a try. I wore these boots on two long backpacking trips and a few hikes. The hikes all took place in Indiana on relatively well maintained dirt trails. I also wore these on a 6 day backpacking trip in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of New Mexico and then on a 60ish mile trek doing a section of the John Muir Trail. By the time I started my JMT trek I had about 80ish miles on them and the tread was already not holding up to what I expected. By the end of my JMT trek the tread was literally peeling off in pieces. For the price I expected the shoes to hold up better. I did purchase these shoes online through Sun and Ski Sports, but I don't believe that would have effected the ...Ā MoreI love my Hoka tennis shoes so much, as an avid hiker/backpacker I decided to give these boots a try. Overall these boots are extremely comfortable, have amazing waterproofing, but the quality is just not there. I think these would hold up just fine if you are using these exclusively on easy to moderate trails, however if you plan on doing some higher caliber backpacking/hiking trips I would not recommend these at all. There are plenty of other boots out there for a fraction of the price that will actually hold up.
I have used 8 different models of hoka boots. I also wore 3 different pairs of this kaha. All my previous hoka boots lost some lugs at about 300 miles of hiking or sooner. Many of the lugs on this kaha model completely wore flat after less than 300 miles of non rocky, flatish hiking. REI (which I love) told me it was because I was carrying too much weight. But I weigh 120 lbs and had at most a 25 lb pack for at most 100 of those 300 miles. By that logic these boots cannot support a 145 pound person or a 135 pound person with a ten pound pack! Also they completely stained my socks and feet blue every time they got wet. Hoka customer service was terrible which is why the lowest rating.
