The HOKA Challenger ATR 7 GORE-TEX shoes for women are an evolution of the previous version. The heel height has been increased by combining a simplified mesh upper with a new very soft foam for a plusher feel. They have a waterproof GORE-TEX liner designed to keep feet dry in different climates. In addition, the patented rubber added to the base of the unit, together with a revamped sole design, achieves the best all-terrain stride to date. Smaller lugs with less space between them in the centre and larger, more aggressive lugs on the perimeter designed to improve traction on uneven terrain have also been incorporated.Features: Extended heel loop Technical mesh - GORE-TEX New compression-moulded EVA foam midsole Durabrasion Rubber 4 mm lugs Recycled polyester upper and laces Technology:- GORE-TEXGarments made with GORE-TEX fabric provide maximum comfort and protection in a wide range of activities and weather conditions. The GORE-TEX membrane is water and wind resistant ensuring that no water gets in while allowing your feet to breathe. This is thanks to the membrane with pores that are 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water, but 700 times larger than a molecule of water vapour. That means that water cannot get in, but skin can still breathe. Each membrane is tried and tested in the harshest weather conditions.

A great shoe but comfort doesn't hold up over 8 hours

The Gore-tex materials are wonderful. Unfortunately the soles are not non-slip and the toe box seems to be more narrow than the older Hoka's I am replacing. I wear these to work and my feet start out feeling well supported. As the hours go by the discomfort in my outer foot sets in. I didn't start wearing these right after purchase because I needed non-slip soles in the winter, I'm past the 30 days for an exchange. Just giving my feedback- if you usually wear a slightly wider shoe, these are too narrow.

Comfy at first, then not so much.

At first they felt super comfy. I liked the cushioning. I walk for a living (mail carrier) and halfway thru my route the top of my left shoe was rubbing my big toe. I thought it might be a "breaking them in" issue but I couldn't wear them for long the next day. I currently wear my Hoka Challengers but I'm looking for their replacements now. The search continues.Oh, and I had read reviews that they run small, so I had ordered them a half size bigger than my usual size.

Good enough for my doctor ...

I was getting a full knee replacement (too many sports injuries) and noticed that my anesthesiologist was wearing Hoka sneakers. She said they were extremely comfortable as she is on her feet all day. Fast forward to my physical therapist telling me that I needed to replace all my footwear as my gate has changed. I decided to purchase my own pair of Hoka and ABSOLUTELY love them! Not only are they extremely supportive, light and comfortable ... I get compliments every time I wear them.

Huge disappointment
2 April 2023

First of all, these were the most uncomfortable shoes I've ever put on my feet. There was zero comfort and support, and I was shocked at how unpleasant they are to wear. Secondly, upon opening the box I was heavily disappointed - the material looks cheap which I didn't expect for this price point, and the fabric part of the shoes had wrinkles that would not dissipate after unboxing. I considered an exchange in hopes another model would be less unpleasant, then changed my mind and went for a return because I highly doubt the quality will vary much from one shoe to another in the same brand line. I opted for a pair of Brooks, and am happy with that purchase. The good news is, customer service was fantastic and very helpful.

I love them!
16 March 2023

So far I've only used them for shorter distances up to 6 miles. I love how they are waterproof and not stacked as high as my bondis I race in. I was gifted these from Achilles International for winning the Hartford Half in the AWD (athletes with disabilities) division. I always use Hokas and I'm happy to add this to my collection. Ty Hoka you make running as a para athlete that much easier! I also love the color so cars see me! I'm also a pedestrian trauma survivor who was unfortunately hit while running and these colors help me feel that much safer. If you ever need an Hoka One One ambassador let me know haha! You make Amazing shoes!!!! TY for making the best shoes ever!

I would not buy this product again

I now own seven pairs of HOKA shoes, so, clearly I'm invested in this brand. I use my Stinson 6's and Bondi 6's for running. They changed my life. Before finding them I was unable to do any running at all due to severe knee pain but the level of cushioning and ergonomics of these 2 brands allowed me to start running again without the discomfort of all the knee pain during my recovery time. When I saw the newly released Challenger 7 GTX I just had to have them. The vibrant orange just jumped out off the screen and I was in love. The fact that theses shoes also tout plush cushioning was just the cherry on the top. I couldn't wait for them to arrive. I nearly fell on top of the FED EX guy when I saw him coming up the driveway with package. I ripped open the box, put them on and sat with my feet up and marveled at their beauty. Alas, the love affair was short lived and the honeymoon ended abruptly. My first activity in them was a short walk around my neighborhood with my 11year old. By the time I got home I was having slight knee pain. Alarm bells went off. My knees haven't hurt in years and although the pain was mild it gave me pause. Like I said, it was just a short walk around my neighborhood.2 days later I went for my usual run. By the time I was done I could barely walk due to intense knee pain. The pain was in both knees, inner/medial aspect, a place where I haven't had pain before and it was excruciating. I cannot say if the cause is the cushioning of the shoe or the ergonomics or both. I desperately hope that this is not a sign of things to come from HOKA. There is a distinct comfort level disparity between the Challenger GTX and the Bondi and Stinson brands. All shoes that have maximum cushioning.

I'd like to purchase 2 more pair but very expensive!
3 June 2023

These are absolutely the finest shoes I've ever worn! I've been wearing diabetic shoes for the last 15 years with inserts. Being treated by a podiatrist for 20 years! Had surgery for Plantar Fasciitis (heal spurs) and have diabetic neuropathy in both feet, use a cane to ease the pain! Today no cane, very little pain, walking 1-mile a day which is big for me. If you have painful feet gives these shoes a try, you'll be very happy.

These shoes make my feet happy! In my line of work, I have struggled finding the right shoe.9-11hr days of being on your feet. In and out of a truck 120-180 times per day, 5-6 days a week.I had recently purchased this shoe in black, in hope's it would provide some comfort on the pads of my feet. It has definitely delivered! By far, the most comfortable shoe I have yet to experience. The green pair are on my wishlist and are next for sure. This particular shoe is brilliant in my opinion and makes it all worthwhile. Big THANKS Hoka!!Treat your feet!

Versatile waterproof shoes!
5 April 2023

Bought a black pair of these Hoka's to wear on a trip. The weather was rainy and having the waterproofing was a lifesaver. Was able to wear them walking for miles a day while sightseeing and also to the gym for weight workouts! Feet were COMFORTABLE. No blisters or problems whatsoever. I give them 5-stars for comfort and versatility. On appearance, I would give them 4-stars because they look bulky. I prefer a sleeker looking shoe.

like a pair of worn sneakers
18 April 2023

I bought the challenger GTX because I wanted a light, waterproof trail runner to use hiking and dog walking in a variety of conditions, and because it comes in interesting colours compared to other GTX models. For years I have bought the speedgoat GTX . I love the vibram that is secure on slippery surfaces, it has a great responsiveness on the trail and pavement, and the waterproof quality lasts for about a year. While the colour is interesting, the Challenger feels very different. It doesn't have the structure of the speedgoat nor the responsiveness. It feels like a worn pair of sneakers, or cheaper sneakers from another brand. The nonvibram sole feels a bit slippery on wet sidewalks. So, I was left thinking that this shoe does not have that great Hoka feel.
