Whether you're training for a marathon or just enjoying a casual run, the HOKA Clifton 9 is the ideal all-round running shoe. Experience the ultimate performance of the Clifton 9 every day. Midsole To make your runs comfortable, HOKA has added a CMEVA midsole that provides plenty of cushioning and effective protection while running. By placing the transition zone behind the metatarsals, the Early stage Meta-Rocker geometry contributes to a quick transition of the feet. With a smoother stride and a faster transition to the forefoot, you will feel more explosive. Upper A mesh upper makes the Clifton 9 highly breathable and comfortable to wear while running. The shoe's pleated tongue is attached to the upper on both sides, preventing debris from entering the shoe and keeping the tongue centered. Outsole The outsole is made of durabrasion rubber and has a coarse profile for a lot of grip on every type of surface. Zones of abrasion rubber have been added to the heel and forefoot for improved durability. The geometry of the outsole is designed in such a way to guarantee inherent stability and an efficient stride. Order and discover the versatility of the HOKA Clifton 9 within a few days.

Long-time HOKA fan user here - typically use mine for running (~20 miles a week, nothing crazy). The Clifton 7s were some of the best running shoes I had ever tried. Then HOKA exploded in popularity and I believe that quality declined greatly... the 8s were some of the absolute worst running shoes I had ever tried on -- the arch was far too high and narrow, and cut into my foot, the toe box was too narrow (despite sizing up 1/2 a size). ***Pleased to announce that the 9s ARE improved from the 8s*** but are inferior to the 7s. The quality just isn't quite the same, which is disappointing. I went up 1/2 a size in these (which is normal for running shoes) and they fit well. As always, very supportive, and do a great job protecting my knees when running.

I have a very high arch and a narrow foot...and I have searched for YEARS for a running shoe that works with both. Last year, I finally found it – in the HOKA Clifton 8!! I have never found a more perfect running shoe. The shoes even completely cleared up my plantar fasciitis that I had been suffering from for over four years! I've worn my Clifton 8s almost every day since purchasing them, and it was time to finally get some new ones. I can't find the 8 in my size anymore (size 8) as they've been discontinued to bring out the Clifton 9, so I went with the Clifton 9, expecting the same great shoe. Boy, am I disappointed! The arch support is WAY off. It's placed too far back so it is more on my heel than my arch (which will cause all sorts of injury). My foot flops around inside the box. The top of the shoe is longer now so it digs into the top part of my foot (where the shoe meets my low ankle). I'm so very sad about this because after years of searching for–and then finally finding–the perfect shoe, now it's gone.

The shoe line I have been wearing for over 10 years has been the Asics Gel Kayano. However, with my arthritic knee, I wanted to try a shoe with better cushioning. I tried on both the new Asics Gel Nimbus 25 and the Hoka Clifton 9. The Hoka's felt more cushiony than the Gel nimbus (walking around the store), so I decided to give them a try, knowing that I had 90-days to see how well this worked for me. They felt great just standing in the shoes, but even on short, 2-mile, flat walks during the next 60 days I could feel pain every time I stepped. I was concerned that the heel to toe drop of 4mm might be tough to adjust to, especially coming from shoes that have a 10mm drop. I don't know if that was the source of the discomfort, but the pain never subsided. I returned ... MoreThe shoe line I have been wearing for over 10 years has been the Asics Gel Kayano. I think if you don't have any knee issues and are used to shoes with a 4-5mm drop, that these would work better for you. The cushioning was certainly very attractive in this Hoka shoe. It just didn't work for my knees.

I am not a runner. I only do occasional sprinting jogs but usually do past fitness walks. I am still searching for shoes that work best for me to avoid sore and achy feet/soles after lots of daily walking. As noted, loved the cushioning in the soles (felt like walking on pillows) but the Cliftons were too bulky for me. Can't the upper be reduced to eliminate weight? I don't know about other people, but I'm not looking for my foot to be encased in cushion, just looking for plenty of cushion under foot. I'd prefer minimal material for the upper part of the shoe. I returned these because although I loved the cushion I was not completely happy with them. I experienced a sprain injury to my 2nd toe while I was testing these out too. Hoka Clifton 9 are my walking for exercise shoes. This model & its predecessor, Clifton 8, are longer than previous versions. I sized 1/2 size down on the 9s and am glad I did. I have been ordering women's D (wide) and am happy with the extra room to keep a small bunion from growing.Note about the Black/Copper color: the black accent between the cloth and the white base give the illusion of a wider foot. If this is a concern, choose a different color combo.I rotate between Cliftons and Rincons. I like the lightness of the Rincons and wish they were available in wide. Both options have good cush and are comfy.
Iam a nurse who works 12 hour shifts and needed a comfortable and supportive shoe. Purchased pair clifton 9 two weeks ago. They have decent support which helped bottom of foot. However they are not soft and comfortable. They are very stiff and let me tell you they run small and narrow and purchased half soze larger than I normally wear. Typically shoes are big on my heel and upper foot but I need length. If your feet are wide at all these would not be for you. The shoes are rubbing too much against ankle and too of foot. Plus the toe is somewhat pointed leaving little room in the toe box. I am disappointed because I hear of many people who love their hokas. My husband too he wears the clufton 8. So clifton 9 was a mistake
I’ll start this review with sizing. Other reviewers stated that the Clifton 9 was larger than the Clifton 8, so I was skeptical ordering my typical size. My typical size ended up working out and felt about the same as my Clifton 8. The toe box feels a bit more roomy in the Clifton 9, which is why I think some are saying to size down. I think you could be safe going TTS or a half size down, but I wouldn’t size down more than that. Comfort wise, these are definitely not as comfortable as the Clifton 8, but still much more comfy than other running shoe brands. I have relatively high arches and still feel good support from the shoe.I ended up opting for the Pale Mauve and Shifting Sand and am in love with the colors in person. I was reluctant to try Hokas as I am a loyal Adidas customer for years. I started 75 hard and was going on 2+ mile walks daily and was getting horrible shin splints. A girl at my gym recommended these and WOW. While I still love and back Adidas - these shoes are everything!!! So so so lightweight but so supportive of your entire body. I will say - the first time you wear them - if you are not used to walking shoes they seem a little uncomfortable/clunky. Give them a few days - they are training your body how to walk essentially. After about 3-4 days I never wanted to take them off. Feels like you are walking on clouds. Easy to clean too! I just threw them in the washing machine. If you are on the fence ... TRY THEM. I want 10 more pairs to wear every day. Trying ... MoreI was reluctant to try Hokas as I am a loyal Adidas customer for years. When I tried this shoe in the store, I was pretty happy with how comfortable the sole was. However, when I first used these shoes for an 8km run, it took quite a while for me to get used to it -- maybe because I have been using on running shoes for a long time so I wasn't used to how bouncy the cushion of this shoe was so my knees kinda hurt after a while from the impact of the gravel. To add on to that, the outer sole of my feet started hurting... thankfully the pain in my knees started to reduce after taking these shoes on a run for a couple of times but man, the outer sole of my feet still hurts a lot when I run (it's been 3 weeks) and I am not sure why this is so. I just bought a pair of these in the black/copper size 7 for my Mother’s birthday via Dicks, I received the shoes today and was impressed with the shipping and delivery time since I had just ordered them a few days ago on the 9th. Well… I opened the box to find used shoes with rocks stuck in the bottom soles and scuff/dirt marks on various areas of the foam. After paying $145 I am very disappointed and expected shoes that were actually new and in perfect condition. Yes, I talked to a representative online and they told me I could get a refund or do an exchange at a nearby store, but these are not in stock anywhere around me within 100 miles and my mother’s birthday is tomorrow. Nor would I want to risk having to order them again online without seeing them in person ... MoreI just bought a pair of these in the black/copper size 7 for my Mother’s birthday via Dicks, I received the shoes today and was impressed with the shipping and delivery time since I had just ordered them a few days ago on the 9th. Nor would I want to risk having to order them again online without seeing them in person to check the shoes condition. These should have never even been sent out, it is one thing to sell them in store where a customer is able to see with their own eyes the wear and tear on the sneakers, but to sell them to someone who ordered these shoes online and did not know the exact product they were getting is not acceptable. I have worked in retail myself and items like this should either be discounted or damaged out if severely damaged. Though not severely damaged, these shoes were not what I was expecting to gift to my mom. She was very excited to know I was getting her a pair for her birthday, as she works at a podiatrist’s office and has heard how great these sneakers are. We are both very dissatisfied with the quality of the product we received, and it’s sad that doing a return would just be more of a hassle for this particular situation and we will need to suck it up.
