Honeycomb Alpha Flight Controls Yoke Adapter/Cable

It was designed to meet the requirements of flight simulator users, but also of flight students and pilots. All internal components are manufactured in aviation quality and offer a realistic flight experience with realistic ergonomics. The high quality mechanics offer a realistic full 180° rotation angle for aileron control with a self-centering mechanism without dead zone. In longitudinal direction the steel shaft allows a range of motion of 15 cm. The mechanism is made entirely of metal for durability and the yoke features a switch panel with battery and alternator switch, avionics main switch and light switches. It is equipped with a red LED backlight so that it can be easily operated at night. There is also an ignition switch, as is common on piston engine aircraft. The left handle has two buttons, two 2-way hat switches and a push-to-talk button, while the right handle has two more 2-way hat switches, an 8-way panorama switch and a button. Thanks to a matching bracket, Alpha Flight Controls are compatible with both Honeycomb and Saitek products. The included driver and configuration software provides individual profile settings for different aircraft and is compatible with Windows and macOS.

Very nice hardware. Good feel. Docs need lots of work (Aerosoft videos purport to cover some areas, don't). Docs from Honeycomb are basically non existent or cover the obvious so you have to hope you find something helpful elsewhere. Logitech is low end, others are very high end, and while CH Products is in this range and very good they haven't been updated for years so there isn't much of a choice unless you want to spend twice the money on a yoke.

(disclaimer, I did buy a honeycomb alpha second-hand, but in good faith I can provide a decent review). Out of the box, the yoke is very responsive. Coupled with the salitek rudder controls, it does provide a somewhat realistic experience within Msfs2020 (Notwithstanding the lack of the throttle Quadrant). The panel toggle switches are plug in play and are mapped natively within Msfs2020. Athough the Honeycomb Alpha might use a USB-C connector, it will still work on the older, more prominent USB 2.0 Honeycomb, please make more products soon, there's a reason they're selling out (and I will definitely be buying the throttle quadrant once it gets back in stock)

Have been looking at getting into Flight Sims for some time I decided to wait, learn, save up and buy what I thought was the best on the market and most importantly had capabilities for the future beyond my current abilities. I bought this and the Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant and am extremely happy with them. They are very well built, feel solid and like the 'real thing' with plenty of buttons/toggles to assign different tasks to suit your own liking. Just make sure you calibrate the yoke before flying (see how to on you - tube). If you're a newbie like me it's all a bit daunting as instructions are limited, both with these peripherals and the Flight Sim so watch a lot of videos and talk to someone who has done it.

Honeycomb has done an incredible job in constructing this yoke for us flight sim enthusiasts, without raking our wallets too badly. I've owned and used this yoke for 5 months now prior to writing this review. The body is solid and weighty, the matte black plastic is well-built unlike some of the more glossy/flimsy/squishy competitors offerings, the mount is strong and secures the yoke firmly to your desk, there are no flimsy plastic knobs that feel like they will break as you tighten them, rather, a pair of powder-coated metal C-clamps that grip a flat pad to your desk which mates with the base of the yoke body, and damn is it a sensible mount design. A full 180° range on the roll axis is very nice to have too. I won't rattle off a list of all features, I'm sure you'll do your research before buying, but I would certainly recommend this yoke based on my own experience. To further support my recommendation, based on the quality and price of this yoke, I have now purchased the Honeycomb Throttle quadrant to pair with this awesome peripheral.

Excellent responsiveness in control center zone

This Product hits the mark for it price range in comparison to high end units. Certainly beats it competitors at this price point, hands down!Works right out of the box with X-Plane 11 with only basic calibration required in program. The integrated switches are also a nice touch and removes the excessive need for a mouse to toggle common switches in the aircraft. The control range and sensitivity is excellent. Build essentially for flight simulation, the controllability of the flare on landing is quite realistic where I am able to achieve the required hold off to touch down without the traditional jerky movements on legacy type controllers at a similar price point. The feel in pitch is quite robust in that reasonable force is required to hold a given pitch ... MoreThis Product hits the mark for it price range in comparison to high end units. Holding it for prolonged periods will tire you similar to the real aircraft so your are compelled to trim the excess force off. This design feature of the controller really helps hone the art of trimming, a key skill to have in any IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) scenario.I highly recommend this product if you want a highly cost effective means to practice IFR procedures manually at home.

Great but QC flawed

First the service from Scan, top notch and actually arrived 2 weeks earlier than given which was a nice surprise.I have taken a star away for the following reason. Once I'd setup the yoke and tested the movement back/forward I could detect and hear a slightly loud 'clicking' & feel a slight bit of resistance when pushing the yoke forward. Something similar to how a spring would feel if it was clicking. This did not feel right and rather than use the yoke 'not knowing' and also having to go through the pain of returning it I decided to open it up to investigate. Kudos to Honeycomb for at least making that easy. What I discovered was that from the rotary switch on the front panel there is a ribbon cable that subsequently attaches it to a bit of PCB towards the rear ... MoreFirst the service from Scan, top notch and actually arrived 2 weeks earlier than given which was a nice surprise.I have taken a star away for the following reason. This did not feel right and rather than use the yoke 'not knowing' and also having to go through the pain of returning it I decided to open it up to investigate. Kudos to Honeycomb for at least making that easy. What I discovered was that from the rotary switch on the front panel there is a ribbon cable that subsequently attaches it to a bit of PCB towards the rear of the chassis. This ribbon cable had not been secured properly and had drifted across to slightly contact the yoke mechanism when it was pushed forward. All it needed was to slightly tighten the cable-tie attaching the ribbon cable to its mounting and problem solved. I'm glad I did this as it would surely have been A/ really annoying and B/ Would probably have broken the ribbon cable after repeated snags on the yoke, resulting in a certain RMA. Perhaps the rush to get these out resulted in the build being a little hurried , all good in the end though.Aside from that initial disappointment I am extremely pleased with the functionality of the flight controls. There are so many different ways to configure it and the added control you get with the feel of the yoke plus the vast array of control options make it something that genuinely enhances my flight sim experience. Also a plus is that there's no power supply required, just needs a USB, I would like to be able to set the LED colour but they are not so bright that they're a bother.I've had no 'dead zone' issues that some seem to have mentioned.Value for money, a tricky one. In reality it's a fairly simple device but I guess that's also part of the value, I never find myself having to think when using it and flying has become second nature. A real pleasure to use.5 Stars for functionality4 Stars for the QC issues4.5 Stars VFM

Louis's review of Honeycomb Aeronautical Alpha Flight Controls

Pros: Excellent handling. Beautiful in the 'Flare' with no balooning. The feel of the yoke is excellent too. It also rotates 90 degrees left and right! ("My CH Pro Yoke only rotates 45 degrees either side!") The desk clamps are solid steel and not plastic! The cabinet itself is solid top quality.Cons: The yoke 'Pitch' resistance is far too heavy. It's what I would expect to find in something like a fully laden Lancaster Bomber. ("The pilot often got the engineer to help him pull back the yoke on takeoff!") At the same time, the 'Roll' resistance is completely linear if any. In the real aircraft as in Pitch, resistance should increase with application. Unless of course you are still on the ground!

Returned two other 'L' yokes after reading how limited they are. These are for my two grandsons flight sim we will begin building using three scenery monitors and five instrument panel touchscreen monitors (three 16" and two 7". We are now drawing out how they will fit in the instrument panel and the two 'Alpha's' and the one 'Bravo' will be under mounted. The build quality of the Alpha is superb, the flexibility awesome, the programmability unparalleled and the price is less than 1/3 of the price of the so called 'highest level' 'Y' yoke, that has no programmability. The 'downside' is that it is very difficult to find one (but Adormaa has a pre-order list, ... MoreOrdered two of these 'Alphas' and one 'Bravo' after having read every review and watched every video possible. Pull the trigger now - you will not be disappointed. The closest competition in price is the Logitech HOTAS series, and they are all overpriced plastic trash (at that price). I have yet to try the HOTAS Warthog, which is all metal like this, but no thanks - it is an old design. The fact that this plugs into your rig via USB C - that right there tells you Honeycomb is serious and respects your time and money if nothing else does.I might be rambling at this point, but this is the one. This is the one.Note - Currently, I'm running X-Plane 11.50 on an M1 MacBook Air (16gb Ram) at a constant 30FPS on high settings through Dells latest Thunderbolt dock, through Displayport to a 2014 Samsung ultra-wide (not the greatest screen). Honeycomb designed this for PC AND Mac, and it's quality is reflecting of that. I will update this review if the Honeycomb products work with the Xbox Series X when MS Flight Sim launches next summer.
