Pros- has great suction. This swivel joint at the base is a great design, makes maneuvering corners easy. Cons- The attachment design is completely absurd, I can only guess whoever designed it has never used a vacuum. The hose for the attachments is bizarrely short (maybe 2 feet) and has very little stretch to it.If you pull the hose the slightest bit while using attachments the vacuum will fall over- I actually got bruises from it falling on me. You must keep one hand on vacuum to keep it upright while using attachment hose with other hand and since it has little stretch to it you can only reach a small area directly by the vacuum. Attachments all fit at a 45 degree angle so you can't go under furniture or get anything up high. My previous vacuums never had that ... MorePros- has great suction. The extender arm will not stay extended- no matter how firmly you lock it it won't stay. The brush attachment won't stay on, falls off continually. It's a tall vacuum which is fine when using it but makes carrying it difficult. If you have to carry it up/down stairs the top handle is to high up (I'm 5'4 and it's chest height for me). The only other handle is the top of the dirt/dust container, it's an odd spot to try to hold it and move on stairs. So if you have a single level home and never use attachments it will work for you, otherwise don't buy this.

After a few times of reattaching it, the clips broke and we couldn't reattach it anymore so we used it without. But without the height adjuster, the beater head sat right on the floor and unfortunately the beater bar doesnt disengage for wand use, and the beater bar rubbed a hole right through the linoleum in my kitchen as it sat stationary while I used the wand. After that we didn't use it upright, just tipped it over so the beater wouldnt contact the floor and used the wand to suck some hair up. When I finished I stood it back upright but unfortunately right onto the cord and the beater sucked up the cord and chewed it right apart. Breaker blew, smoke, bare wires now exposed, the whole bit. 3 months with this vacuum and it's dead. We have 2 cats and dogs and we are in full-blown mud season without a vacuum.

Don't waste your time if you have pets.

We have medium pile carpets, two short-haired dogs, and two short-haired cats. I had much better results with the same animals and the same carpet with my Shark so I'll be opting for a replacement for this one and tossing it in the trash. I'm beyond the return period and am not going to fight the manufacturer when I've spent enough time trying to use the vacuum as it is.

Engineering marvel with a couple design blunders.
21 November 2022

Well, it seems to do ok but there are some things that make me wonder why they were designed the way they were. The on switch should be up at the top of the handle instead of being a foot switch where the reclining lever used to be for something like 100 years of Hoover vacuums. To recline the handle now requires I reach around with my foot and step on the front of the machine while forcing the handle down. It's very awkward and silly to change a design that worked for a century. And the rug height adjustment is a little touchy. I set it around medium and started vacuuming a very low rug and didn't know the belt was slipping until I smelled rubber burning. Oops. Once I learned to dial the height properly the vacuum does a pretty good job of cleaning pet hair and dirt from carpet. I had been vacuuming with a shop vac and thought my rugs were fairly clean, but the Hoover with the spinning brushes managed to pull out a lot more dirt that I missed.Emptying the canister is straightforward. I take it outside and blow it with a leaf blower. I can't imagine getting it sufficiently clean any other way without using water.Overall it's a marvel of engineering that performs its job very well, but with a couple very obvious design blunders that renders it a bit awkward to use.

Good but not great

If you're on a budget, it's not a BAD vacuum. The suction is decent, emptying the canister is easy, I like that you can switch between hardwood vs low vs high carpet, I like that it has lights on the base so you can see where the dust is, the brush doesn't get super snagged with hair, and I use all of the attachments frequently. But I've only had this vacuum for a little over a year and it's falling apart. First, it gets hot quickly, and if you accidentally run it over the cord then the cord frays. I did call customer service while it was in warranty to see if they'd fix it, and they told me to take it to a vacuum repair place that was an hour away with horrible reviews and that didn't seem worth the trouble. Then the hose fell off; I super-glued and twisted it back in and that seems to be holding. But now the plate with wheels underneath the base (I think it's the part that adjusts when you pick hardwood, low carpet, etc.) has fallen off -- it looks like it's supposed to be detachable, but the part that keeps it attached has broken and not in a way that can be glued back on. So now I'm in the market for a Shark.

Great vacuum with one down fall
9 February 2023

I purchased this vacuum during Cyber Monday as a Christmas gift to myself. It was a great price and couldn’t pass it up. The vacuum cleaner itself is awesome and it picks up dirt I never would have imagined was buried deep down in the carpet. For that I would give it 5 stars! It’s fairly lightweight and I like that it swivels which makes it a breeze to go under furniture and against the wall. The reason I am giving this vacuum cleaner 3 stars is when using the attachment debris will come out of the port where you disconnect the hose while using the attachment. I love the ease of using the attachment’s for hard to reach area’s, on my furniture etc, which is something I use very often. I thought maybe it was because the canister was full, I emptied it out and proceeded to use the attachments again. Same thing happened even with the canister empty and clean. The only thing I can think of that would cause this issue would be the constant spinning of the brush which continues to spin even when the attachments are in use. I have never owned a vacuum cleaner that the brush for the floor continued to spin when using the attachments. This is really a bummer as I stated in the beginning of this review, it is a great vacuum otherwise and it will definitely clean your carpets! Unfortunately I will be returning this vacuum for that one reason only. I really hope Hoover makes an improvement on this issue as I would definitely recommend this vacuum cleaner otherwise.

Hoover Vacuum Disappointment

My mothers' caretaker asked me to get a new vaccuum due my mothers' being in worse shape than she is. I bought this vaccuum at the early Black Friday deal price of $59. It arrived 2 days after purchased. It was pulled out of the box and assembled today. Everything appeared to be in great shape. Within 10 seconds of being turned on, there was the horrible smell of burning rubber. The belt was slipping and melting.I removed the lower cover to inspect everything. The results were not good. The belt was melted in 2 spots. The roller brush had 2 large grooves cut into it( all the way around it). It turns out that QC during manufacture was less than desirable. The belt was melted in 2 spots. The roller brush had 2 large grooves cut into it( all the way around it). It turns out that QC during manufacture was less than desirable. After an indepth inspection, I realized that when the 4 felt strips were installed, there was way too much adhesive applied to each strip. This inturn created plastic on plastic contact between the brush roller and the belt track. The soft felt strips that were meant to keep the dust from entering the belt channel were turned into hard, sharp cutters that dug grooves into the roller. The friction was enough to not allow the belt to spin at the same speed as the motor. The belt started melting. . Failure to simply glue felt strips in grooves without excessive glue caused this much damage. Hoover needs to do a better job with their QC section. THIS ONE IS GETTING RETURNED!!!!

Noisy. Light. But works great.

It works as it should but i still love my previous vacuum, the Hoover Whole Home Elite (which did not include a roller brush, like this purchase did). The hose is too short and the vacuum is too light when you use the included accessories. It drags the whole vacuum with it. Otherwise it works great. It is a little noisy but it picks up dirt from my large area rug and transitions well to bare floor without flinging all the loose kitty litter. The lights help you see the dirt to clean in darker areas. The cannister is large enough that it doesnt need to be constantly declogged with the amount of pet hair that accumulates daily at my house. I still don't understand why the swivel is included with the vaccum being so light.I guess time will tell if it will hold up to ... MoreIt works as it should but i still love my previous vacuum, the Hoover Whole Home Elite (which did not include a roller brush, like this purchase did). The hose is too short and the vacuum is too light when you use the included accessories. It doesn’t get hot and shut itself off. I’ve read some negative reviews but I’ve not had a problem at all and this vacuum is now5 years old, replace your filters and keep it clean and this vacuum will last FOREVER!Buy extra belts that’s a no brainer, I’ve run over a few Dog toys that killed my belt and buying them is really no big deal either!

Very Disappointed!

I read a lot of reviews on this Vacuum before purchasing and regret not listening to the bad ones, I thought that I am such a careful person, they wouldn't happen to me but they all did. I really wanted to love this and out of the box, it was great. The hose they give you is way to short but the one from my old hoover worked with it so no problem. I have owned this vac for maybe 9months and have already burned through 4 belts. There seems to be no reason and hoover sent me a one time free belt after the first one burned through but they said that was it and now I've been through 4!? I never changed a belt for the 10 years I owned my last hoover. I also read reviews that said the leveler broke. Knowing this I always changed the level of the roller when the vac was ... MoreI read a lot of reviews on this Vacuum before purchasing and regret not listening to the bad ones, I thought that I am such a careful person, they wouldn't happen to me but they all did. I never changed a belt for the 10 years I owned my last hoover. I also read reviews that said the leveler broke. Knowing this I always changed the level of the roller when the vac was turned off and very carefully thinking people just weren't careful enough, but mine broke too, ugh! And yes, as other reviewers said, this vacuum also burned/melted my favourite carpet, despite being so careful! Those are my biggest complaints. As others mentioned, the hose does often twist off, but you can twist back on, it's just constantly annoying. The vacuum always tips, and then really, they should include a longer hose. I do love the suction power, washable filter, and swivel action but really wish I chose a different vacuum.
