Very uniformed and it turned out looking like I had just straightened it with a straightener. The big barrel and dual bristles made a big difference in the amount of hair sections that I could dry which is another big plus.I will suggest that you use a heat protectant prior to use. (See my other reviews or my choice) The high setting is quite hot which is good if you really need it for your hair type, the cool is still pretty warm, not like your typical cool setting temps. The power switch is at the base and is out of the way, cord has good length and swivels. Another plus, the price point..not to expensive and not too cheap to where you would regret your purchase.Overall, I am beyond pleased with this product, another good Hot Tools styling tool for my hair arsenal and highly recommend it to everyone.

Not the miracle everyone claims it is!!

I had to see what all the fuss was about with these hot air brushes. I can't count the number of Buzzfeed articles raving about them----it's practically a cult at this point. But now that I've tried it, I think those reviews are way overblown, and this type of brush is not nearly as great as people are making it seem. Here's why:1.) It's HUGE and unwieldy. Much longer than a regular hairdryer. It's the size of my forearm. I felt like I was Conan the Barbarian swinging this thing around. And I have very long hair past my butt, which means that there is no feasible way to hold this giant brush in a normal fashion, while also maintaining tension on the ends of my hair. No one has arms that long. You need hair that is shorter than waist length to even attempt this ... MoreI had to see what all the fuss was about with these hot air brushes. No one has arms that long. You need hair that is shorter than waist length to even attempt this brush.2.) The barrel is so wide that it is difficult to get anywhere near the roots of your hair---the barrel diameter is wide and the bristles make it even wider. Would it feel comfortable to brush through your hair with a baseball bat? No? Well that's what this feels like.3.) Many of the bristles on my brush were already wonky. (See photos.) And since the bristles go all the way around the barrel, anytime you set this brush down too hard on a bathroom countertop, you can expect the bristles to get wonkier.4.) My hair is already quite smooth and glossy to begin with, but I felt that this brush ripped out too much of my hair with every pass. I can only imagine how it would fare on someone with less slippery hair. You'd be ripping out strand after strand with each swipe.5.) It's eardrum-piercingly loud, in part because it is held closer to your head than a regular hair dryer. That makes it even less pleasant to use. It's loud and shrill like a jet engine.6. I didn't feel it was significantly faster than my favorite Remington hair dryer, which dries my entire full mane of butt-length hair in 9 minutes flat. If anything, it takes longer because you have to stand there sectioning your hair, rather than just flipping your head upside down and tossing it around. On the bright side, it did get my hair smooth enough that I wouldn't have needed to flat iron afterwards. It's not the same as flat ironing your hair, but it's more polished than doing nothing. I do see the allure perhaps for handicapped or differently-abled bodies, or for people with shoulder length hair, but the longer your hair, the less pleasant it is going to be to use this brush. If you have hair beyond your waist like me, it's not really worth the trouble. I can get more lift with less fuss just by using my compact hair dryer and a brush.

I have short hair with and undercut but it’s very thick. I hate blow drying so I usually let it air dry but then it’s always frizzy and has a weird wave to it. I like the idea of this type of product to take some steps out of styling. I also like that this has swappable parts that you can buy. I think I might like to get the smaller one eventually. I also like that the control buttons are down on the bottom of the handle where they won’t be bumped while I’m using it. Turning it on though it’s doesn’t have super definite stops for each setting and I don’t feel like I’m able to get to the high setting. There is no difference that I notice when it’s pointed towards medium and high. Some other things I like about this are that the bristles are flexible so I can push it ... MoreI have short hair with and undercut but it’s very thick. There is no difference that I notice when it’s pointed towards medium and high. Some other things I like about this are that the bristles are flexible so I can push it down closer to the scalp in the areas of shorter hair. The bristles grab the hair pretty well but once it’s a little dry it doesn’t hold as well. I think I would prefer a little thicker/stiffer bristles. I also like that the air seems to blow out evenly all the way around the brush. I’ve tried another tool like this and that wasn’t the case and it got very frustrating. It’s also pretty lightweight. My arm didn’t get tired holding it and since I only need one hand I was able to multi task while using it.A couple things I don’t love are that it seems to take quite a while to dry. A regular blow dryer definitely does the job much quicker especially with my thick hair. Also there was a weird smell when turning it on but hopefully that will go away with time.Overall I like this tool and it’s a good option for when I need to do something with my hair but don’t want to put a lot of effort in. I don’t think I would recommend it for very thick long hair unless you plan to regular blow dry first until mostly dry and then finish and style with this. If you have thinner or shorter hair this could be a great convenience tool for you.

The Best Blowout for Medium Length Hair!
26 July 2022

Pros: Easy to use. Fast drying and styling. Medium sized head perfect for medium length hair. Can switch out head for optional larger or smaller brushes.Cons: Can get too hot for fine hair. Use of lower setting advised.I've been using this Hot Tools detachable brush head styler and dryer for about a year now.I originally had a Revlon 2.8" brush head volumizer but found that the large brush head straightened my wavy/straight, layered, collar-bone length hair too much. There was volume, but my hair was stick straight. This Hot Tools version (they are all manufactured by Helen of Troy...Hot Tools, Revlon, etc.) is a very good choice because it comes with a medium sized 2.4" detachable brush head, a longer cord, and a coated surface on the brush head that supposedly is ... MorePros: Easy to use. There are lots of styling options here. Plus it's easier to clean the detachable brush head.It is recommended to section off your slightly dry hair before using this dryer and to dry a section at a time.I find that the "High" heat setting too hot for my fine textured hair. I use "Low" and keep the brush head moving from root to end while turning the hair under and around the brush for a second or two. The idea is not to let the hair rest too long on the hot brush head. There is also a "Cool" setting which mostly blows air.I am able to manage a very respectable looking blow out with smooth, polished looking hair with lots of volume and waves where I want them.It takes far less time to accomplish this than with a round brush and a hand held dryer.Highly recommended!

I had no high hopes, just mini hopes. I was pleasantly surprised. I did hair for 16 years, and it took a beating my my wrists, hands, and shoulders. As I get older it's harder for me to work a round brush through my hair efficiently and hold my tools above my head as easily. This thing gets HOT, so be careful. I am glad to report it easily glides through my shoulder length hair (even with a lot of product) and dries my hair in half the time as my blow dryer did. You are basically zapping two birds with one stone here, you get the benefit of the oval brush shape (round brushing) and it also dries your hair super fast. For the price, I'm more than happy and I highly recommend. Another perk, the controls are at the bottom of the tool, not the neck, so I can hold it and ... MoreI had no high hopes, just mini hopes. Hot Tools rarely lets me done with their hair appliances. They are high quality yet much more affordable than some of the upscale brands. (and work just as well IMO!)My hair isn't super thick. It's on the fine side but is fairly long. Drying it can take forever and styling it can take even longer! The settings are super simple and straightforward - high, medium, low, and cool. I LOVE easy! The brush handle is quite large and a bit awkward to hold. Thankfully, the heat settings require you to turn a dial so I never have any issues accidentally changing the settings during use like I have with other appliances in the past.I never use this to fully dry my hair. I usually let it air dry about 80% of the way and then let the brush take care of the rest! The brush works well ... MoreHot Tools rarely lets me done with their hair appliances. Thankfully, the heat settings require you to turn a dial so I never have any issues accidentally changing the settings during use like I have with other appliances in the past.I never use this to fully dry my hair. I usually let it air dry about 80% of the way and then let the brush take care of the rest! The brush works well for straightening my hair and adding some volume but does still leave it full of static at times. The bristles are firm enough to create results but soft enough that they don't irritate my scalp or pull my hair.I do wish the cord was a bit longer. Most hair appliances that I own have a 8-9 ft cord so the 6 ft cord felt a little short.Overall, it's a good product and serves its purpose. It is simple, easy to use, and helps me achieve a quick, out the door style in just a few minutes!

Worked on thick, curly, hair
25 August 2022

I'm Latina and have very thick, VERY curly hair. It's rare I straighten it but I wanted something to make that process easier. I'm so glad I found this thing! My hair was nearly bone straight and I wasn't even trying to get it like that, I was just trying to get it dry. I don't use a relaxer so it was all done with this hair dryer. It cut my drying time in half! I have the paddle brush from this same brand and I realized it had never worked right (air only came through the top part) so drying my hair took too much time and I ended up looking like a lion who licked an electrical socket.I love that the brush part comes off. That was a selling point because I'm able to break it down and take it with me on my trip. The only con: The bristles. They seem a bit too flimsy ... MoreI'm Latina and have very thick, VERY curly hair. It's rare I straighten it but I wanted something to make that process easier. I'm so glad I found this thing! I was surprised at how beat up they looked after one use. I wasn't yanking on my hair or twirling it tightly. That's the only sticking point for me. I would be highly upset if I had to buy a replacement anytime soon.

oversized dryer brush
30 May 2022

This is an interesting dryer brush as it can be taken apart into 2 pieces for easier travel and storage. In terms of what I liked:- It does the job and is oversized, so it is like a paddle brush plus dryer combo.- The boar-style bristles wrap all the way around the barrel, so there is not an area without them.- It has 3 settings for hot air (low, medium, high air speed) plus a cool option (which is high air speed but cool air).In terms of what I did not love:- It is almost too big (the handle and the barrel are bigger than other brands). It's a bit unwieldy to hold and maneuver around your head. It also made it tougher to really style, as it was hard to curl ends considering the size of the brush overall.- The air did not feel as powerful as with some of the other ... MoreThis is an interesting dryer brush as it can be taken apart into 2 pieces for easier travel and storage. It did get really hot, but even on the high setting, the air volume felt rather low. Maybe because it does not blow out of the top at all (which is what allows it to disconnect into the 2 pieces).- It is SUPER loud. Probably the loudest dryer brush I have used. It seemed way louder than it was powerful.- It is tougher to clean with the bristles going all the way around. There is not an easy way to get hair out of the brush when you want to, though you can with some more effort.I will probably keep this as a travel option, since it packs a little nicer, but it would not be my pick for everyday use.
