I’m sorry, but 40$ for a single shadow that is the size of a Dime? That’s inexcusable. There is no reason whatsoever that these should cost more than 20$ AT THE MOST. Heck, there are other brands of comparable quality that make twice to three times as much product for that price. If you buy this, you truly have nothing better to spend that kind of money on and I have no sympathy whatsoever if you don’t like it after using it. PLUS there is a separate container compenent tbat you have to buy for these, so Hourglass is trying to double-dip your wallets with this tactic.

First of all I'd like to say I love Hourglass's products, and I'm a repeat buyer of the ambient powders, blushers and foundation. So I'm sorry to say I have found the eyeshadows very disappointing. They are very small for the hefty £28 price. I bought one matt and two shimmer shades and found all to have very little pigmentation when applied and they just left my lids looking insipid. The pallet itself is fine and fair for the price.I think the idea of the reusable pallet and being able to customise it is excellent as invariably off the shelf pallets are wasteful with some colours barely touched when others have been used up. It's just a shame that the shadows do not seem to be of the same standard as other Hourglass products. I have honestly bought eyeshadows at a fraction of the price which have performed better. This won't put me off my current Hourglass products or stop me trying new ones, but this particular range is not for me.

I received the three-pan palette and nine eyeshadow shades: bid (shimmer), doe (matte), lux (metallic), foe (matte), act (metallic), eve (shimmer), ink (shimmer), and ace (matte). The palette looks sleek in gold metal, and although the interior is plastic, it doesn’t feel flimsy or look cheap. The shades are sold and packaged individually. The boxes are marked with the color and name on the side, and the eyeshadow comes packaged in clear plastic clam shell packaging to keep it secure. The eyeshadow pans are gold with a textured finish, so once they’re out of the plastic packaging, they also looks sleek! While I liked the idea of a customizable palette, it did feel like a lot of packaging. However, I did a little research and found that they use recycled materials, and with continued use of the palette, it’s supposed to ultimately save waste.I liked most of the shades and felt that they applied smoothly and were nicely pigmented. However, I was unimpressed with “act” which was barely visible after the first application. In general, the shimmer colors required more layering to really get the color you want.Overall, I liked the palette! It looks nice, I like the eyeshadow (shimmers are just “okay”), and it was great to be able to design my own personalized palette. Although I received this complimentary, I did look at the price, and it feels overpriced to me. The palette is pretty, the customization is nice, but the eyeshadows are pretty small and they didn’t “wow” me as much as I would want them to for the price.

Always bought the hourglass Concealer and Ambient face powder, 2 of my HG products, so I thought I'd try an eyeshadow as I was looking for a dupe of MAC Patina, which I loved.......OMG when the arrived it was sooooo small! I mean really blooming small, I was shocked at just how small it was!! Also, it only comes in a hard plastic wrapper, no case.......and that's because you have to buy to pallet if you want a holder. Was it worth it, absolutely not! Was not a great colour pay off and nothing like what I wanted. Don't waste your money.....
Ok, so I just received the Hourglass single in shade Fig. I was hoping for the money that I could create a beautiful "one & done" eyeshadow look with it. I just so happen to have received my Midas Cosmetics order in too, so I swatched everything and saw that there was a striking resemblance between the HG Fig shade (swatch shown on left in photo) & the MC shade Dofa from their Smokey Glow palette (swatch shown on right*). After swatching them both out, I can see just how beautiful the Midas shadow is compared to the Hourglass one. I'm not sure if it shows as much in the photo, with lighting and all - but it looks like the Midas formula is just the amped up version of the Hourglass one. It has more sparkle & pigment. So I tested them on my eyes too, one on each ... MoreOk, so I just received the Hourglass single in shade Fig. I was hoping for the money that I could create a beautiful "one & done" eyeshadow look with it. I'm not sure if it shows as much in the photo, with lighting and all - but it looks like the Midas formula is just the amped up version of the Hourglass one. It has more sparkle & pigment. So I tested them on my eyes too, one on each eyelid - and the Midas one again beats the HG formula. So why am I paying $29 for 1 shadow versus paying less than that for the entire Smokey Glow palette?? (It's originally $36 but I had a 40% off coupon code!) I will say, I do think the metal pan does feel luxury. It is thick and different and actually pretty. I don't even fault Hourglass for having outer packaging that isn't "luxury" (like someone previously pointed out), because that part just goes in the trash. But this formula is not worth $29. I wouldn't be impressed by this shade if I got it in a palette. Nothing at all stands out to me as being "better" than my Indie brands' formulas. In fact, it is just underwhelming. It is just fine. And for the price I expect AMAZING. This is not that. You can find much better, for much less. This is being returned ASAP. I was really hoping there was a justification for the high price tag on these, but this showed me there isn't. I am giving it 2 stars because the product is "fine", even though the value is terrible.
I ordered this from the Sephora App and did not realize this was a refill. It is noted as a single in the description. I assumed that meant a stand alone eyeshadow - with a proper lid/container. I am shocked I just opened a tiny refill - and disappointed. I did not click through every picture to know it was a system. Buyer beware! I am hoping I can somehow not damage these (and make a mess) in my makeup drawer so I can get use out of them.
So, the good stuff first. It’s obviously customisable and refillable. Also, thanks to the helpful accompanying charts, it’s easy to identify warm and cool tones without swatching as well as matte, shimmer and sparkle finishes. The case is solid and secure enough to not fall open in your bag.The bad news is that the quality doesn’t warrant the price. Like other reviewers, I’m not impressed with the fall out and migration of the shadows, especially the glitter shades even when I’ve used their own eye primer. These shadows do not outperform my shadows from Aucoin, Mercier or Nars, despite costing considerably more. The case isn’t a work of art unlike the cosmetics from, say, Louboutin) Why would I bother to repurchase or recommend, particularly at this price?I’ve been buying Hourglass makeup since 2005 and - as with pretty much all popular companies- I’ve gradually noticed the company hiking up prices as their popularity has increased. However, it now genuinely feels like they are trying to see what mad prices they can get away with. It started with £17 for an eyeliner that contains 12 applications and now we’ve reached £156 for a 5-shadow eye palette which doesn’t outperform my £37 Aucoin 5-shadow palette. It’s the last time I will ever buy something from Hourglass without testing it for at least a couple of days via a few in-store applications as the price no longer matches the quality.
I ordered a new eye shadow. When it arrived, it was a refill. I expected the shadow in a compact. I spent 20 minutes chatting with someone who said they'd send me the shadow in a compact and asked that I return the refill. The shadow arrived today but it was, again, a refill. So I called Sephora and spoke with a woman who escalated the call to her manager. He explained to me that buried deep on the webpage in How to Use were instructions about purchasing a compact for the refill that would cost $18! The idea that this information was not available along with the shades befuddles me. I hate going into the store because the salespeople act condescending. I'm no longer a fan of Sephora.
Would highly recommend I have been looking for a satin but not Matt or Sparkling ( due to my age) I must share that this is the best ivory eye shadow expensive but worth every penny . Glides on perfectly and lasts all day . Treat yourself to the hourglass case for the single eyeshadow it keeps it safe and protects the shadow . Love that it is vegan too . Glides on , the perfect ivory shadow and stunning finish ( in my option )
The packaging surrounding the shadow is luxe, heavy, metal. The compact you put it in is plastic and cheap inside. Weird combination. The shadow itself is not great. Chalky and this shade (mod) didn’t have the powder- smooth creamy texture I hoped for. And it was a tiny chuckled. For the price, I returned it immediately
