Hoya 49mm Fusion Antistatic UV Filter (1404) with 9 Layer Super Multi-Coating Hoya 49mm Fusion Antistatic UV Filter. Hoya engineers have developed a new ANTISTATIC coating that acts like a force field around the filter to repel dust. Perfect for environments where dust is common these filters require less frequent cleaning and maintenance than traditional filters. Additionally the hardened antistatic top-layer is water repellent stain and scratch resistant and cleans easily when smudges or fingerprints are introduced to the surface. The filters UV properties filter unwanted ultra-violet rays reducing haze and increasing clarity. The new FUSION Antistatic professional filters are made in Japan using hand selected silicates that are carefully smelted and blended to yield high performance optical glass. Hoya then uses extreme care and precision to apply the Improved 9-layer Super Multi-coating formula which greatly reduces or eliminates reflections on the surface of the glass and yields a ultra clear high transmission rate. This means the filter has virtually no effect on the colour balance contrast or clarity of the final image. The filters features a lightweight one-piece low-profile aluminium frame to house the glass. This one-piece design allows the filter to maintain perfect parallel alignment to the sensor plane for maximum sharpness while the low-profile form eliminates vignetting when used on ultra-wide-angle lenses.

This Hoya filter checks all of the boxes I was looking to fulfill. Tested with a NIKKOR 24 - 70mm lens (VR II model) and a D850 body, used alone this filter helped produce much more accurate photos, especially shooting wildlife on both cloudy and cloud-free days. The blue of the sky didn't need heavy post-processing to match the rest of the image, and the clouds were crisp and free from artifacts and blurring. This is not Hoya's strongest glass; that honor goes to the 32 layer HD3 series, however, the 16 layer antistatic filter has proven to be significantly tough during all situations I've put it in, with the active dust and water repellent requiring less hands-on cleaning in the field. Good, non-reflective glass, and well machined threads. I don't know whether the Antistatic coating is truly such. For UV and Clear filters, I don't want to spend big bucks for what is a sacrificial protection for the much more expensive front element. Recommended.

I recently purchased the Olympus 12-100mm f.4 Pro lens used, and it didn’t include a UV filter, surprisingly, so I decided to shop around. Yes, there are plenty of cheap options available online, but with a lens filter you get what you pay for, more often than not. So upon learning that this item repels dust particles in the air, making it incredibly convenient to clean, I couldn’t resist. Thankfully, so far it has lived up to the promise. I would recommend this filter to anyone willing to pay a little extra.

I am in the camp of using only 1st rate clear filters to protect a1st rate lens. The cost of this high-quality filter was less than theVa state sales tax (5%) on the Canon lens it protects, including B&Hfree overnight shipping to my door. The anti-static properties ofthis filter mean that I clean it a lot less often than anyof my other filters and it also means the lens front element is cleaned even fewer times.
I've been using these clear filters on all my lenses of whatever size. Unfortunately I can't always find the exact size I need, so I have to substitute with another brand. Other brands are sometimes as good but not often. They fit well, and the coatings are so good that I can barely see the protector when it is mounted on the lens. The antistatic aspect seems to keep the filter cleaner too.I have not seen any impact on image quality.I prefer a clear filter rather than a UV filter in order to avoid any issues with color, relative to not using a filter at all. This way, my lens works at its best.
I've had this on my camera for over a week now and I can verify that the Antistatic properties do actually repel dust, etc. Another lens I've been using during the same period and that started out clean is indeed dusty now (I'd say a slight to moderate amount). At this point the Hoya has absolutely no dust at all. I haven't shot enough with the new filter to be able to compare optical clarity with my other filters, but I did take a few test shots with and without the Hoya filter. I can say there is no color shift at all in those shots. In this regard I'd say this filter is probably comparable to any of my Zeiss UV filters.
I've used a lot of different filters over many years of photography and these are head and shoulders above the rest. They are not the least expensive, nor are the most expensive. They do what is claimed. The are antistatic and dust and guns just doesn't stick to them.I'm fastidious about having a clean front lens element and these Hoya filters give me just that. I used to be cleaning my filters all of time. Not now, these filters resist dirt and dust. Will they get dirt on them, of course at some point. But I hardly spend any time cleaning my lens filters anymore like I used to do. here are the BEST!
I have no doubt that this is a state-of-the-art, excellent clear filter. I purchased this to protect the front of a very expensive lens. The philosophy is that I would rather have to clean or even replace a filter than suffer damage to the front element of a costly lens. And one would be foolish to put a filter of bottle glass quality in front of any lens, let alone a premium optic. That said, I really do not know what the right level of quality/price for a protective filter should be. I suspect that this filter represents overkill, in a way, and I could have gotten away (at least 99.5% worth) with something cheaper. But I suppose there is a psychological benefit to knowing that I got a top-of-the-line filter, and if my photos turn out less than perfectly sharp, it ... MoreI have no doubt that this is a state-of-the-art, excellent clear filter. I gather the filter is somewhat easier to clean than cheaper filters, as well. I haven't tested this, but if this is so, that is a plus, as well.
Hoya's latest filters (2015) called 'Fusion' incorporate a special layer on top of their usual super-multi-coating to repel stains and make cleaning easier. It causes water to bead on the outer surface, and crucially greasy marks just wipe off. A great improvement over previous, rather unforgiving, multi-coatings. I've tried it and it works. Unlike 35mm film cameras, simple UV filters cutting out ultra-violet haze are not needed on modern sensor DSLRs, so do we really need them in the digital age? In the great debate, purists will correctly argue that any extra layer of glass will only degrade image quality, but out here in the real world filters are still essential protection from dust, sand, grit, salt, rain and greasy fingers. There is a greater difference in perceived technical quality between different f-stops or zoom settings on a decent lens than there is with a good multi-coated filter. The short answer is, I would rather have a scratch, chip, scrape, or other serious damage happen to a disposable filter than to an expensive front lens element.
The reason I buy Hoya filters is that they come in a SEALED case that is tamper evident. I am tired to morons opening up the case and handling the filter and greasing it up with oils and other bodily fluids from their fingers, and exposing it to dust and debris in the store.Since Hoya seals their product, I can rest somewhat assured that the product is in a somewhat sterile state, or as close to manufacturing state.Other than that, the quality is also nice. The threads catch accurately, and it mounts on evenly and snugly. So far it has not jammed up on me during removal. The rim feels sturdy, and is pretty slim. The bad part is that smudges do not remove easily. They tend to get embedded, or smear when wiped. Also, packaging could always use more sealing, and ... MoreThe reason I buy Hoya filters is that they come in a SEALED case that is tamper evident.
