I purchased two of these filters. Both of these filters got scratched with the first wipe of the glass. I've never had such an issue with any other filters, multi coated or not. Seems like a flaw in the filter design, that the coating is easily susceptible to scratching.

Decent quality glass from a well-known brand, no obvious compromise on picture quality. You could spend over double the price on pro-level filters and not know the difference.

Got these at a great price to protect 3 new lenses. Not much to say but I would not choose anything other than Hoya which I have used for years because a protective filter saved a lens when my tripod was knocked over. The filter was cracked but the lens was safe.
Yeah, a higher grade filter would likely reduce lens flare but out of habit I generally don't like shooting into the sun with a long zoom lens. I rather have sand, dirt, mud, water or pavement hit the filter than my front element. Now, this filter: It's Hoya, It feels solid and it sits as low as a front lens cap. It isn't the thinnest around, but from my previous mentioned experience, I rather have that extra material between the floor and my lenses. It comes with an extra coating of HMC Hoya Multi-coated or Hoya Magic to improve light transmission. In other words, less light reflection from the moon shots or light creeping from the sides but nothing is perfect. How does this stack up to other filters? Well, I like the price and I get HMC for the pricing or a regular UV filter.Remember, this is the type of product, you DONT want showing on your shots, but you do want to have in case of an accident. Do keep in mind, it is just a filter so, with increase force from a drop, your front element with have damage. This is a good deterrent for minimal damage, but it doesn't make your lens drop proof nor bullet proof. Use a Lens Cap whenever possible.
I've bought this to protect my Lens. I used several Hoya lens filters and never had a problem with them. The filter is made of glass, and it is thin as well. I will continue to use them in the future. Buy them from a reputable seller like B&H because there are counterfeits out there. Good luck with it if you buy one.
I haven't had the lens that long, but it seems to be well made. It is to replace an earlier filter that cracked when my camera and long lens fell on concrete from a height of 3 feet. Both the camera and lens survived, but the filter cracked across the middle. All told, it effectively did its job of protecting more expensive equipment.
Very positive. Most of my lenses have UV filters. These work Well for intended purpode of UV filter but also are a protective barrier in front of the lens large optics. Dust, smudges come off with cleaning with totally no wear to the primary objective lens. recently I got mud on the front. but a quick vacuum and dusting with canned air removed the remaining tiny particles and the lens objective is still good as new. I am comfortable with a new. perfectly clear Hoya on the lens again.
I've been buying stacks of Tiffen filters as lens protectors. But I've noticed that they flare and reduce the contrast a bit. I've been investing in better glass, and it became noticable the problems. So I bought a stack of these and decommissioned the Tiffens. Maybe the Tiffens could be repurposed to coasters? Anyway these are only a little more expensive and don't seem to degrade the images. They seem well made. I'm pleased.Hope this helps.
