Got the printer out of the box. Set it up. So far so good. Then it rejected the color cartridge. Tried to get it to accept the color cartridge a few times. Didn't work. Went online. HP said that sometimes that happens and you'd just need to buy another cartridge. Red flags should have been there. Anyway. I decided to set it up with black ink only. I desperately needed a printer. I eventually got it printing black and white from my phone. Desktop took quite a bit longer and there was a serious delay between hitting print and printing. Two days later, printer no longer accepted the network and I haven't been change it or do a diagnostic as this doesn't come with a cable and I can't find the printer on my phone or desktop. I hate printers as a rule. They're unreliable, expensive to run and cause more frustration than any other piece of tech (I'm an IT pro with more than 20 years experience), so 3 stars for a printer is very high praise from me.Set up was very slick, and the app installs well on Windows, Mac, iOS and Android. Ubuntu sees it as soon as the laptop joins the network. The HP Instant Ink has been fantastic so far - I'm still on the 4 month free trial but for me and the family to be able to print without worrying about refills is a real breath of fresh air.The problem comes with the unreliability of the software side - a lot of the time it'll print fine. Sometimes it won't, and some devices will see it while others won't. Usually turning it off and on again fixes it, ... MoreI hate printers as a rule. It doesn't help that there's no display on the printer, so if you want to get a status message you have to print one which is bizarre and wasteful.Print quality is fine for documents, photos are OK but it doesn't do deep blacks particularly well. The printer looks quite slick and isn't horrifically loud.

Easy to set up, especially like the warning light on paper tray. Only criticism is the short power lead and power on switch is on rear, and no ethernet cable included. I knew it would need a 5m USB cable I had an USB extension lead to hand and I happen to have a supply of ethernet leads. Have used the HP Smart app on all three desktop PCs. Set for wireless network for occasional use from Chromebook, ethernet network via router for two desktop PCs, and direct USB lead to the main desktop that will use it, connectivity is versatile. Hope it lasts as long as our 2005 HP Photosmart 2610 which is still going strong apart from needing to take one sheet of paper at a time. I only use genuine HP ink in the 2610, having tried and not been impressed with generic ink ... MoreEasy to set up, especially like the warning light on paper tray. I bought this printer recently after being fed up with my Canon. This printer was easy to set up. I had one minor issue and I called HP and they helped me fix it. They stayed on the phone to ensure my printer was fully up and running before I hung up the line. Highly recommend this printer. Harvey Norman had it the cheapest when I purchased it.
This printer is terrible, HP have managed to take a simple device (a printer and scanner) and create something over complex, with complicated installation and very limited diagnostic capability. To access advanced printing capabilities you are encouraged to sign up to HP Smart. If you do sign up (I declined) the printer must then remain connected to the internet at all times, or it will cesase printing. You cannot later cancel HP Smart so you are stuck with it. Their software continually pushes the Rapid Ink service even after you have declined. One feature of this service, which my daughter unwisely used last year is that as soon as you cancel your subscription the existing ink cartridges are disabled, even if there is remaining ink which you have paid for. Pros: Nice printer when it works.Cons: Really REALLY hard to set up. Needs an app and if app crashes you are completely stuck. Then need a code to link to wifi which is not listed anywhere. Light is on permanently - would be good if you could turn off. Need to fully turn printer off - and if you do it’s a nightmare getting it to connect to phone again. Too reliant on wifi and the app. Had a wireless printer before and it had buttons on it so you could at least trouble shoot. This one is all online
Pros: The print quality seemed ok on the one thing I printed. However, there are way too many bad points to this printer that not even HP themselves could help with.Cons: Where do I start. To set it up you need the app. To do anything within the settings, you need to go online - this means if for whatever reason your internet drops out for any significant time, you can’t do anything with it! It also in my opinion makes it far too easy to hack! There is a blue light above the output tray that is constantly on, with no way of switching it off or dimming it. My office looked like I’d installed an ever open portal to an Nth dimension in space and time! Oh and if you or anyone in your family are sensitive to those high pitch frequencies that some devices emit - avoid ... MorePros: The print quality seemed ok on the one thing I printed. Oh and if you or anyone in your family are sensitive to those high pitch frequencies that some devices emit - avoid this at all cost. It’s constant connectivity need, means it never switches off, giving no respite whatsoever to that awful high pitch squeal. I returned it and now have a lovely Canon.
Don't really see the point of all the Wifi/app rubbish. No real benefits there. Simple printing via bluetooth would have been simpler, but I guess they want you to create an account so they can send you all of their marketing etc.Print quality for just a simple text document is below average, as is the speed. No need for a musical jingle whenever you do literally anything with the printer either.Does the job for basic printing, which is what I needed, but I can't recommend.
Set up - do it with the HP Smart app on your phone. Don’t bother using the laptop/computer - I tried multiple times and it would not progress. Using the app - first go successful and took about 4 minutes.HP instant ink subscription - be aware your starter cartridges are small volume so you will either have to buy cartridges quite quickly or if you have the instant ink subscription they will order after about 7 pages of printing. They come from Singapore via DHL couriers. Pretty fast printing, good quality, colours good.Takes a bit to work out how to double side print from your app but it can be set. You can also choose a selection of pages in a document to print but it is not straightforward. Several functions require the app on phone or computer to do - scan etc. there are some very nifty print options that are convenient as well.
I'm not exaggerating, this really is the worst piece of technology I've ever bought. The setup experience is very poor: You can install HP's app, create an account (why? I've bought the printer, why do I now have to hand over my details to HP? Also, on a Mac it never respects your choice of browser), let the app search for the printer... Or you can type in a very long code found under the lid and... eventually the app *might* find the printer.Expect to repeat this process periodically after the app or the printer apparently fall out with each other.Other times it just 'drops off' the wifi network - actually, to be more precise, it freezes. Even holding the power button for some seconds has no effect in this situation; you have to pull the plug out.Even when ... MoreI'm not exaggerating, this really is the worst piece of technology I've ever bought. Even holding the power button for some seconds has no effect in this situation; you have to pull the plug out.Even when it's working as normal, the application that HP pushes you to use is pretty bad. On the surface it looks simple, but it takes ages to find the printer, then tells me that ink levels are low when the cartridges are fairly new, or vice versa. It has several touch-sensitive buttons which light up in different colours, but whose functions evade me.But the worst aspect of this printer is the ink cartridges - unless you're going to print at least once a fortnight they *will* dry out. I resorted to keeping the cartridges in a sealed bag in the fridge - I read this on a few websites - but no: after a month I wanted to print something, and all I got was the occasional dot or broken line on the printed sheet of paper. I took this up with Galaxus support who were kind enough to send me some brand new cartridges to test whether it really was just the ink, and yes, it was. But a few weeks later when I tried to print something else... just the occasional dot or broken line.
