An overall great Printer with a required App

HP has been a staple in my home now for some time, making some great all in one printers, and having a suite of software that enhances the overall experience of their products. The HP Envy continues the tradition of providing reliability, with great print quality, and a better than expected print speed. I will say this printer left a lot to be desired when it comes to the need to access more information than should be needed to print from your smartphone. In the box, you’ll find the Printer, a power cord, a user manual and warranty cards, and two ink cartridges (black and color). If you require the use of a USB connection, you’ll need to supply your own USB cable, which can be plugged into the back after removing a protective sticker. If you require the use of a USB connection, you’ll need to supply your own USB cable, which can be plugged into the back after removing a protective sticker. I should note, the printer requires the use of the HP Smart app, which can be downloaded for free from the applicable App Store. When powered on for the first time, you’ll be presented with a QR code for easy download from iOS or the Google App store. The app will also ask you to sign into an HP account, but is NOT required to continue with the setup. I was a bit confused by the apps need to know your location (which I didn’t allow), and asked for permission to track across apps. You’ll be asked if you want to sign up for HP+, which offers a subscription service to automatically order ink. I say all of this, as the connected devices have continued to find ways to monetize after you’ve paid the purchase price. None of these services are required to use the device on your own network, so keep this in mind as you go through setup. There is no way to finish the set up without the app. The printer serves all the functions you’d expect from an all in one. The print quality is great, fast, and thus far hasn’t had any issues with scanning or printing. I’ve been able to use premium thicker paper, and even some cheaper printer paper left over from my last printer without any issue. If you print a lot of documents, you may find that the printer will require more ink. So, I’d recommend purchasing the larger capacity ink cartridges or signing up for the auto ship service offered by HP. Scan quality was surprisingly great, with the printer quickly scanning. I would highly recommend installing HP’s software on your PC for easy printing. Overall, this printer is great for those who only need to print on occasion. The scanning function is top notch. The app experience for setup is a bit longer than needed, and the fact the app needs my location for printing is an odd request for printing. I’m not sure I’d recommend this printer to anyone looking for a simple plug and play experience, especially during setup. The annoying need to sign into my HP account to perform simple tasks in the app, made this a bit more annoying to use than I’d prefer. However, it’s still a good printer in the long run, and you should see the level of quality you’d expect from an HP printer product, sans the app set up experience.

Very easy to install to my Wi-Fi. My iPhone and iPad automatically recognized it when I printed from them. You can even scan from your phone directly to the printer no matter where you are. If you ever printed photos in a printer that doesn’t have a dedicated tray for photo papers, you know that it can be frustrating and it is prone to errors, making you waste time and money. Fortunately, this HP Envy Inspire comes with a tray exclusive for photos that actually works and does so very well. Equally important, the pictures look professional, which is something really important to me because I take a lot of photos and I expect the best ones to look great on paper. Equally important, the pictures look professional, which is something really important to me because I take a lot of photos and I expect the best ones to look great on paper. Text is excellent like all modern HP printers and the speed is very good for most home offices although it could be considered slow if you print a lot of work documents. What I dislike is the fact that it uses a tri-color cartridge, which is a waste of ink in my opinion. You run out of magenta, for instance, and you have to buy another cartridge, wasting the remaining yellow and blue inks. Here are the Pros: • Easy menu on an LCD color screen • Dedicated photo tray with two-sided capabilities • Supports up to Wi-Fi generation 5 • Easy connection to mobile devices such as phones and tablets • Excellent photo and print quality • Great app features such as remote scan and print • Duplex printing, a must for many people and great to save paper. • 6 months of Instant Ink included, which is sent to you automatically when the printer senses your running of ink And the Cons: • Only works with Original HP ink. It guarantees quality but HP ink is not cheap • Instant Ink Subscription is great and started cheap, but they just increased their price depending on your type of subscription. It is convenient but it also optional, so you can decide whether this is a con or pro. • Tri-color ink cartridge. I prefer individual color cartdriges. • Doesn’t support the newest Wi-Fi generations 6 and 6e. Not many homes have that yet, but it is the future of newer Wi-Fi routers. You can’t go wrong with an HP printer, and this one is no exception. Despite my complaints about their tri-color cartridge and Instant Ink subscription, which is somewhat pricey but very convenient, especially if you print a lot, its print quality is unmatched.

With this printer, my expectation was not that it could produce perfect, professional quality photo prints at its price point. I was looking at this as something my family could use to make a quick print from a phone or tablet on the go. That's pretty much exactly how this printer is being marketed. I have had a similar printer for several years, and lately it has started to deteriorate, but I had a baseline for comparison from when it was new. In Terms of design, I personally like the simple, streamline, utilitarian build that doesn’t take up excess space and doesn’t have excessive “styling”. The design of the paper trays and the out-feed are well thought out. Selecting the correct place to put various stock sizes is very easy. In Terms of design, I personally like the simple, streamline, utilitarian build that doesn’t take up excess space and doesn’t have excessive “styling”. The design of the paper trays and the out-feed are well thought out. Selecting the correct place to put various stock sizes is very easy. The out-feed support is a very simple piece that slides out easily, not at all like the complicated, clunky, noisy and now broken mechanical out-feed that was on my old printer. Overall, though made of plastics, the printer feels solid, and there don’t appear to be unnecessary bits and pieces that can break off, dislodge or otherwise become problems. When setting up the printer I was prompted to install a mobile app, and a QR code was provided that linked my phone to the app. After installing the app, basic setup of the printer was extremely simple, and I ran the printer through some calibration and test prints. While not silent this printer is much quieter, and also much quicker to start prints than my previous printer. The machine doesn’t shake rattle and roll, just a couple of noises as the paper is picked up then there is just a nice smooth finish. The app on the phone seems to be pretty handy, especially considering the limited number of options that the mobile device has natively for printing. There was a bit of learning curve to navigating some of the options to get exactly what I wanted, in particular I found changing sizes to be difficult. After running through several prints on my phone, I decided to try out printing from my windows laptop. Normally, when I print from the laptop I simply use the built-in print utility and everything works fine. I have done this with a variety of printers. The laptop saw the printer on my network and I figured I was all good to go. This is the first printer that I have had that forced me to download the brand specific print application so that I could change certain preferences, and unlike the phone, I found the printing process very convoluted on the laptop. For example, when I tried to print a photo from the laptop at the highest output resolution, it would continually throw back to a lower quality when I selected the exact photo stock paper that was recommended. This was a bit frustrating and I had to play a bit of guessing game to find which combination of paper would work for the output I wanted. In terms of print quality, I cannot complain about the sharpness of the prints as all of the high-resolution images that I printed from both my phone and laptop looked nice and crisp. I was however disappointed with the color reproduction. This printer just seems to struggle with skin tones. Everything seems too red and over-saturated. I ran the calibration utility, and then I scanned an older photo that I had using the printer’s built in scanner. The scan to laptop utility worked very well and the image that I saw on the laptop was a very accurate, very true to color and tone copy of the photo. When I printed it out, the skin tones were simply too red. This seems like a very big flaw for a printed that will primarily be used to produce pictures of family and most likely people more than anything else. The printer came with a free 6-month subscription to the HP ink delivery service. I have not had the printer long enough to say whether this service will be worth paying for later. I will say that the ink tanks on this printer are combined 3 color in one cartridge tanks, meaning that when you are out of cyan, you have to swap the whole tank. This is something that I cam not fond of. Considering the small size of the tanks I feel like I will be blowing through ink cartridges quite quickly, though the documentation for the ink delivery program states that the tanks you will received through that service have more prints in them than the XL tanks you can purchase at retail stores. Overall, I feel like this printer is just ok. It has some solid design and some nice capabilities (the wireless scanning is my favorite feature so far!). On the downside, it’s difficulty printing skin tones and some of the difficulty I had in the Windows environment are pretty big issues, especially considering the price point is higher than some similar printers I have owned or encountered.

On the downside, it’s difficulty printing skin tones and some of the difficulty I had in the Windows environment are pretty big issues, especially considering the price point is higher than some similar printers I have owned or encountered.

Great affordable photo printer!
2 July 2022

I was looking for a good photo printer, at an affordable price, for a family scrapbooking project, mostly scanning and printing old photos. After reading good reviews about it, I purchased the Envy Inspire 7255e and I am amazed by the photo quality! The prints are near identical with the originals, with only slight color variations that are neglectable for my purposes. I signed up for Instant Ink, which makes my project smoother, since the first color cartridge was quickly depleted. Replacement cartridges were sent swiftly within a few days, are larger and last much longer. The only negative I have to report is that I only received 2 months of free ink, rather than the advertised 6 months. I chose to just let it go, but I suggest following up with HP to anyone encountering the same issue. The printer otherwise satisfies all the needs I purchased it for, and I am very happy with it!

HP ENVY INSPIRE 7200e
10 May 2022

What a huge mistake the purchase of the HP Envy Inspire 7200e. After two weeks (and a brand new desk top computer, yet another HP product) of trying, I still have no working printer. Now the HP website won't even let me re-download the driver/firmware package or the online printer Doctor software. My phone says it is ready. My computer says it's ready. Printer says my set up is incomplete. And this is after I forget how many attempts at the printer set up. All I wanted was another Epson printer. It was built better, had much more paper drawer space, and it actually worked. All I remember doing is plugging that thing in and it was ready to go. $273 at Office Maxx completely wasted. And I'm sure it will be like a football bat trying to return this unit. AND I STILL ... MoreWhat a huge mistake the purchase of the HP Envy Inspire 7200e. How many college degrees does it take to screw up something this much. Make it simple to install and use. I don't want to have to take a class and get college credit just to learn the printer. All I know is, after two weekends and nearly $300, on top of being a loyal HP customer ( this is the 8th HP computer that I have purchased, I expect a lot more from you. I'm guessing HP is just like everything else in this country. Just screw them over and collect the money. At least at the car wash my car comes out clean. Their computers are probably MACS.

HP Innovation at its best this Inspire Printer
2 February 2022

This is a feature packed printer at a great price. I started with the HP Smart app to set up printer. Set up went fantastically well! The process was quick, took approximately 5 minutes. This is a lot larger than my previous HP Envy 7100 printer. The touch screen is a perfect 2.7" Color display. Equipped with Main and Photo trays, Scan and copy docs and photos. Email ability. There is no SD card or USB port for media. Wireless connectivity AC Dual band or USB. I checked and found printer automatically connected to my 5ghz connection. My windows 10 and 11 laptops all automatically found the printer. I printed from my smartphone with no issues. I downloaded the HP app and was able to print with no issues. I downloaded the HP app and was able to print with no issues. So far, everything has been a smooth ride. I printed one Gloss photo just to check screen image transfer to paper and was actually pretty crisp and true to color. (See attached photo) I printed 600 dpi Color. 1200 DPI capable if desired. ISO Speed 15ppm Black, 10ppm Color. Multiple print sizes. The app also offers customer messages with 2 sided 4x6 printing. Monthly duty cycle is 1000 sheets. One of my faves with HP is their Instant Ink program. Sign up for a small monthly fee and receive all the ink you need automatically. The printer reports your ink levels so HP can send new ink before you run out. Buy this printer now and receive 6 months free Ink printing. Also roll over unused sheets. I can't think of a better way to manage ink expense. After my 6 month period ends, I will switch to my $2.99/month for all the ink I need. Thats $36.00/yr. This is of course if you only need to print 50 sheets a month. There are higher sheet capacity plans at reasonable rates. I Believe HP understands people will print more if it is affordable and I think they have developed a good system here.

Needed more Quality Checks

Eveything expext the printer istelf I like. Its prints beatifuly when it does print. The keyword is when. This orinter has CONSTANT jamming issues with it. If you are using ANYTHING not regular printing paper it will JAM. I have soent days battling with the rointer for it to print 2-pages smoothly of 65lb cardstock and it will go back to jamming. Its such a shame because the HP instant ink is what really sold me on the printer wad there Instant Ink program is amazing value. But what is the point if the printer istelf does not work. Sadly im gonna be ridding myself of this printer and will instead be trying to use a Canon Printer instead with cheaper alternatives for ink cartridges on Amazon. Overall satisfied!

So far, so good. I needed a printer that could print good quality photos and a moderate amount of documents. I’ve had it for about a month now and so far it’s been great for both. At very first, I printed a couple of documents and a couple of photos to test it out. On the third photo, an error message popped up on the display screen saying that the color ink cartridge wasn’t making contact with the printer. We tried taking it out and putting it back in, cleaning it the recommended way and putting it back in, and turning the printer off and back on, but nothing worked. So I called HP customer service, they walked us through a few troubleshooting attempts (most of which we had already tried) and when nothing worked, they immediately sent us a new ink cartridge. Once we received the new ink cartridge, we installed it, and haven’t had any more issues since. The quality of photos is good, I wouldn’t say the quality is extraordinary, but it’s good. I do wish it offered more size options for printing photos. As far as I can tell, you can only print 5”x5”, 4”x6”, 5”x7”, and 8”x10”. It prints both photos and documents quickly. I like the “HP Smart” app that is used with this printer. It’s convenient and user friendly. Overall, it serves the purpose I needed it for and I’m satisfied.

Second hp 7255e printer is a winner
21 December 2022

I purchased the first HP 7255e printer two weeks ago. The color cartridge would not print cyan and was streaking prints. Several attempts were made to clean and align the ink cartridges. All of these efforts failed. The product was returned to Office Depot and exchanged for a new hp 7255e printer. The exchange was efficiently handled. The second hp 7255e has performed well in all of the tests that I have performed. The printer prints black and white with excellent font (including small fonts) coverage. The color printing is also quite good for our purpose. It printed a detailed map of Europe with excellent detail and color rendition. The color printing is also quite good for our purpose. It printed a detailed map of Europe with excellent detail and color rendition. The printed map was very slightly lighter than the original but met our expectations. The scanner functioned flawlessly using both black and white and color operation. The original color map of Europe was scanned to a file on the iMac and then printed out. Several text pages were scanned in black nad white and were correctly registered with clear and distinct printing. The setup ink cartridges are still being used so no data on number of prints for color and black and white printing. The printer was installed as an AirPrint printer. The set-up was performed using the window panel on the front. The HP-Smart software was not used or necessary for our purposes. The printer was then added to the iMac using the usual procedure. The hp 7255e has functioned on our local network without fail. It has not yet been "off-line". To ensure no interruption in print service, I reserved a dynamic IP address on our router so that the printer always has the same IP address. The printer has been through several lease changes without incident. In summary, the hp 7255e printer has met or exceeded our expectations to date. We have every expectation for a long service life. The service provided by Office Depot in the initial exchange was efficient and professional. The reason for four stars (instead of five) was the first defective printer from hp.

Trying to like this printer
16 February 2023

Just got the printer today and overall it does a good job at printing so far. However, the setup process was a tad bit difficult on the app. I had to connect my printer to my mobile device through the app which was slow and took about 10 minutes. Once I connected my mobile device with the printer I had to do the alignment process. So I put in the ink cartridges and a piece of paper and it went smooth. Then, I tried to print a reading for school which took a while because at first It had trouble "contacting the printer" when it was just connected to it a second ago. Then I tried printing something else but it kept saying to "load paper" on the app, which it was loaded. I took out the papers and made sure nothing was blocking the paper tray. Finally after 5 minutes of ... MoreJust got the printer today and overall it does a good job at printing so far. Finally after 5 minutes of taking the same papers in and out the paper tray, it worked. Also it keeps telling me to do the alignment which I already did at the very beginning. Although these are small issues, it definitely makes printing something much more difficult than needed to be. I really am trying to like this printer because the printer itself looks very nice and the actual end result of it printing is nice as well but if these issues continue then I'll most likely be returning. (I have included images of the issues I was having and the printing end result)
