I just recently got into racing games. I prefer racing casually, as my 50+ year old reflexes are not what they used to be. I started with Gran Turismo Sport, which I really enjoyed.I then started playing GT7 when it came out. Thus far (June 3, 2023), this game is a HUGE disappointment. The racing seems no better than GT Sport, and the in-game economics COMPLETELY SUCK.Let's start off with the daily marathon rewards: no guaranteed car as a reward. You get a stupid "roulette ticket" of one to five stars. The higher the level of the ticket, the better the reward. I disagree. I don't want parts for cars that I don't want to own, nor will ever purchase. I don't want an "invitation" to purchase a car that costs millions of in-game currency. Just stupid.I don't like how the world is laid out by continent and tracks, instead of simply showing the racing series like in GT Sport. The car selection is better, though.Overall, the game isn't better enough than GT Sport to be much fun.

Grand Turismo is what got me into console gaming when the original PlayStation came out. I played that game for the better part of 2 years as a kid. I was ecstatic when I finally managed to get a PS5 so I could play GT7 “the way it was meant to be played”. I wish I’d just gotten it for PS4 some time ago.Unless there is something I’m missing, playing split screen in this game is pathetic. You get a very limited selection of playable cars, none from the cars you unlock/buy as you play the campaign. I have no desire to race my buddy in a stock Focus ST. If I did, I’d just do that in real life. And you have to have an internet connection to do a local multiplayer race. The big issue with this game for me is needing an internet connection in general to play anything ... MoreGrand Turismo is what got me into console gaming when the original PlayStation came out. If I did, I’d just do that in real life. And you have to have an internet connection to do a local multiplayer race. The big issue with this game for me is needing an internet connection in general to play anything aside from a very limited selection of cars in arcade races that don’t count for anything nor are recorded/saved.You cannot play ANY of the single player campaign without an internet connection. While this may not be an issue for most people, if you have spotty internet, you can literally be kicked out of a race seconds from finishing because your connection went out (and stayed out long enough to trigger that). This is extremely annoying when you’re on lap 20 of a 20 lap endurance race on the Nurbringer Ring. And why I only give this game 3 stars. The gameplay is generally good, the way they do the campaign is a bit silly, but if you really like cars and the history surrounding some classic and iconic cars, they do a decent job of giving you that. It doesn’t feel too grindy to make money and purchase ever better cars and upgrades. Just make sure you have solid internet when you go to play.
This could be a great game, however greed has spoiled the experience. I wish I could still return this and the PSVR 2 as I had only purchased this for GT7. The game is always online and this is only for the benefit of the publishers. Let's start with the roulette spins you're awarded for completing milestones and races within the game, Literally 100% of these spins has resulted in the absolute LOWEST possible reward out of the 5 or so options. Not one break in the streak! And I'm on the 30th menu or so! Then you have "Car Invites". These cheap spins and car invites are all designed to push you towards spending even more money on a game that costs $70 + tax in order to get your hands on million+ cars without having to spend hours upon hours grinding through races. One of the best driving games right out of the box. Absolutely no jerkiness or skipping anywhere - fluid is the operative word.PS5 controller is incredible, with steering set to angle of controller, it is super smooth and easy to control. Plenty of options for accelerator and brake - right stick was my choice. The feedback in the controller is impressive - running over curbs, can feel the rumble. The idea of sound from the controller is pretty unnecessary - starting beep is the only real sound from there.Graphics are so darn impressive. Lots of details around the tracks, road detail is impressive (easy to see wet and dry track and worn in driving line). Lots of details around the tracks, road detail is impressive (easy to see wet and dry track and worn in driving line). Cars can be customized in just about any way you can imagine (paint, wheels, spoilers, body kits), with go faster parts. And when on track or seeing that car anywhere, all those customized bits show up.The whole cafe with menu cards is fun to learn driving, the game, collecting cars, and getting money to buy more cars and upgrade parts (the things that really do make a car go faster). There's an amazing array of cars to choose from - Tesla Model S (2014 Signature Performance, including two colors only made for a very short time, green and brown) is even in there. Car detail is really well done. And they nail the car sound rather well - Tesla makes essentially no noise while running, just tire squeal. Although they got the torque curve and acceleration a bit off. But that's picking nits. This is a really fine racing game. I guess if you get heavy into it, racing at the way higher end and on line, a wheel and pedals might be necessary. But so far - I'm 39 cafe menus into the game - I don't feel the need for a wheel. There are a ton of things to adjust and tweak. In the beginning finding the right combination of controller assists is important, and then when to drop those assists as you get better at driving (there was even a point where the game told me to turn something off). Figuring out suspension tweaks has a very steep learning curve. The in game help screens are a bit confusing because the words don't translate exactly to a setting (the on line manual is a bit better at help).A really fun driving game, at some gorgeous tracks (not as many iconic tracks as I would like - a lot missing from the US), with incredibly beautiful cars, that helps you along to finally getting a super license for FIA racing.
Extremely boring to play, once you do one or two laps of a track you know it, the campaign’s standard is 5… you are just repeating yourself. I found myself thinking about other things while playing. AI’s difficulty is either extremely hard or a total pushover with almost no in between. You start around 30 seconds behind first place and usually catch up to them in 1 or 2 laps, on the other hand you barely get close or in 4-16th which the game treats as a loss. If you are in the lead by 10+ seconds it basically turns into a time trial. The graphics are gorgeous, no denying that. On specific tracks you can see low poly models change to high poly (particularly the bottom of fences) and now I can't help but notice it, a pretty small issue though. The loot boxes are ... MoreExtremely boring to play, once you do one or two laps of a track you know it, the campaign’s standard is 5… you are just repeating yourself. Got a f1 car one time but that was probably like 1 in 10,000 or more. Monetization is pretty scummy, most modern cars are horribly overpriced (upwards of 1 mil) with the option to skip the grind through microtransactions. Also, the transactions are pretty costly for the amount they give 30$AUD for 2 million credits.
My first Gran Turismo game! Works very smoothly on my PS5, graphics are amazing, and controls are easy! My only 2 downsides to this game, 1. There is about a 20 minute cutscene at the very beginning that is UNSKIPPABLE! I loved watching the different cars race around for a few mins, everyone enjoys a great looking cutscene. But this cutscene started to wear me down pretty fast. Ugh! 2. I wish this game started with a tutorial, instead it starts off with a mini game, and then tosses you into the actual races. After that you then get to experience the tutorial, after all that. I did not know what half of the buttons and knobs on my screen did for my first couple of races. Besides for those things, the game is a blast, I'm finally getting good at it. Can't wait to play ... MoreMy first Gran Turismo game! I’m torn, it’s a love/hate situation. When I found out GT7 was monetizing cars with real money purchases I vowed never to get it. I’ll never support games charging more money for things I already paid for when buying the game in the first place. I’ll never pay money to NOT PLAY the game, which means I’ll earn all the cars the old fashioned way…actually playing the game. In protest of Sonys terrible decision I wanted to give 1 star or never buy it. However…When I saw this game in VR it was amazing. Total game changer. This will convert people who are in the fence about VR or have little interest, best experience I’ve had in VR. I would give 5 stars for this mode alone! There you have it, how I reached a 3 star review, LOVE what they did with micro transactions but ... MoreI’m torn, it’s a love/hate situation. I have owned every release of the GT games and have always enjoyed the pace slow steady pace of the games, even doing licences have an appeal to me. GT7 does not disappoint certainly if you have a love for the previous incarnations of the game,I used the game with the dualsense controller to begin with and was surprised that it handled very well and the haptics work great you can feel the wheel slip when accelerating and decelerating hard especially if abs and tc are turned off, I had a blast in gt3 car and the controller even seems to audibly kick out some of the transmission sound, there is also a thump from pad as you work through the gears and I found this very impressive as I had never used the PS5 dualsense controllers for gran tourismo as I usually use ... MoreI have owned every release of the GT games and have always enjoyed the pace slow steady pace of the games, even doing licences have an appeal to me. After a few days I managed to get time to pull out and set up my wheel and that’s when GT7 really came to life. Feedback feels great out of the box, the physics are very good and the visuals and frame rate are amazing to see in motion. I have spent about 20-25 hours with the game and there is still plenty to do so in terms of value it is worth every penny.
