It's like a Gransfors Small Forest Axe, Scandinavian Forest Axe, and a Carpenters axe had a really awkward looking baby... It weighs the same as a Small Forest Axe, is the length of the Scandinavian Forest Axe, and has the grind and profile of a corpenters axe.All of this sounds like it'd make something that's awful at everything, but it's probably the best out-of-the-box axe I've used for just general woods-bumming. You can use it to carve small stuff (clunkily), big stuff (pretty well), split (surprisingly well), fell (also surprisingly well), and limb (excellently), and it's right at 1kg overall weight and under 60cm... So it's not too difficult to pack around. If I could just have one axe for the rest of my life, this would be it.

Absolutely love this axe.

The axe is light enough to take to backcountry camping (and carry it on my back for miles during portages) yet the handle is long enough to have a powerful strike when needed. Not perfect for splitting, yet very good balance between weight and efficacy. Comes very sharp out of the box. I’m still trying to get it sharpened properly after I destroyed the edge by axing ice to help my car out of ditch on an iced road :)Absolutely love this axe.

Aby Forest Axe - Smaller than I thought!

Fit and finish is excellent. Well balanced and feels good swinging. I knew it was a smaller axe with the weight but it’s surprisingly small. The guy they used in the Hultafors picture must be a ladies small glove size. I prefer a little more heft to my axe. I will gift it to my son when he’s old enough to use it.Axeman service is amazing. Ordered my axe at 1pm and it was waiting for courier pickup by 1:30 pm.

Aby Forest Axe - Superb
28 October 2022

I bought this as a gift, but it's so good I'm keeping it.This has a great head, nice weight and balance, great edge - right from the factory and keeps it well. The beard lets you choke up nice and tight for close controlThe haft length is excellent for using the weight of the head to maximum advantage,it'smade of good straight grained hickory, just a little oil and it will last a good long time. All in all - Happy as a clam.

Great all purpose back country tool

First of all, the fit and finish of this axe is beautiful. Quickly after unboxing, I shaved off a few too many arm hairs testing the edge. Although I did expect it to be razor sharp, it still surprised me just how sharp it was.I just returned from an 8 day canoe trip at Murtle lake in British Columbia. I used this axe extensively everyday on the trip. There was supposed to be some fire wood provided at the sites so I thought I would only have to split wood. It turned out that the wood was provided as 8' - 12' logs varying in diameter up to 10 inches. I did not bring a buck saw as this was not expected, so I had to use the axe to chop the logs into useable sizes. I have tried this on occasion with cheap hardware store axes and had absolutely no success. But the Abey ... MoreFirst of all, the fit and finish of this axe is beautiful. I have tried this on occasion with cheap hardware store axes and had absolutely no success. But the Abey forest axe bit deep into the grain and made me feel like a real lumber jack. It gave me extra man points with my wife and kids to process such large logs with relative ease and efficiency. I also used the axe to limb the logs ahead of chopping them which again was no problem. Some of the wood was full of knots which gave me a bit of trouble while splitting them, as they usually do with anything but a maul. Other than that, the axe split wood effectively.I highly recommend this axe to anyone venturing out into the back country. The size, weight and versatility make this tool worth it's weight in your pack.

Great for bush work
21 March 2023

I bought this axe because I work way out in the middle of nowhere operating equipment and it’s used as a all-purpose kind of axe to remove trees that fall across the road, cut some firewood, peel thin strips of wood for firestarter, and occasionally cut other various things. It shipped and arrived extremely fast, ahead of schedule. Very well built with a 50 year warranty on the axe head!! It came sharp, looks beautiful, and the leather blade protection is beautiful too. I love this axe and 110% recommend it to everyone I see. I love quality tools, sometimes my life depends on them, and for the price to quality ratio you can’t beat this axe.

I Love the Aby Forest Axe
14 September 2023

This axe is not only a piece or art, but and incredible tool. It's light weight and easy to handle. Perfect for chopping kindling or removing small limbs. The mirrored bit is mesmerizing! Comes with a high quality leather sheath. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. Fortunately because of the quality, I'll probably never have to. If you're contemplating buying this axe, just pull the trigger. You'll be glad you did.As far as dealing with Axe Man, he is fantastic. Super helpful. Answered all my questions with fast response time. He's my go to guy.

Quality Quality Quality :)

Great weight and length, easy to swing brilliant design an instant favourite. This is an all day carry axe that I would recommend to anyone that spends time in the bush. I recommend spending the extra few bucks on the wax and sharpening stone. The only con that I can give this axe is the handle needs a bit finer sanding I did get a few splinters from the handle but I intend on sanding it with some fine paper and giving the handle some wax every third use. Please don’t let that keep you from this beautiful tool. With some time the wax and hand oils will make the handle flawless. I love the ergonomic feel to the handle every strike feels solid and accurate very little vibration a natural feel. Aby Forest Axe is a solid 10/10 hats off Axeman well done.

The Axe I didn’t know I needed
28 November 2022

I actually purchased this accidentally - I had a couple of axes in the cart and deleted the wrong one. I’m actually very happy I ended up with the Aby. I’ve never owned an axe of this size and wasn’t sure what it would be useful for when I first received it. I managed to get a good days work done building a shelter with the kids this weekend. While it doesn’t split some of the bigger logs, it can do pretty much anything else. The light weight means I can swing it all day without feeling ant fatigue

The finest light forest axe available
9 January 2021

The Hultafors Aby axe is a perfect blend of workmanship and design and is a must-own tool for any serious woodsman or homeowner. The 700g (1.5 lb) head is perfectly balanced with the US sourced and finely hung 61cm (24-inch) hickory handle. This rather light forged head is easily handled by anyone. The 24" handle generates ample head speed for cutting and splitting yet allows great control when doing more careful bushcraft work like carving or shaping. It would also be great for big game butchering use as the Swedish steel head is extremely sharp and easy to maintain. I use a double sided puck stone with 180/600 grit and a leather strop to keep the keen edge sharp and it holds that edge through a long day of work. I did a paracord wrap on the handle to protect it from overstrikes and also drilled a hole in the handle and added a leather lanyard to make sure I don't lose the axe when working around water (see photo). I also lightly sanded the handle with 150 grit sandpaper, and put 3 more coats of boiled linseed oil on it until it wouldn't take any more oil. It is now what I consider to be the perfect light woodsmanship axe with a price point that makes it perhaps the best value in its class. Kent of Inglewood shipped my axe the same day. As a US buyer I was concerned about the International DHL shipping, but I literally got my axe in only two days which was a day earlier than anticipated. If you need a medium forest axe you can't go wrong buying the Hultafors Aby from Kent of Inglewood. I just can't say enough positives about the axe quality and the buying experience. You will be delighted.
